It's a very nice program and has many good features on board. It's a bit more than the "usual Lightroom clone".

Wasted my time downloading and installing.

Ron W, I know you are trying to help, but I am not enough of a computer guy to understand your answer. Can you please elaborate a bit on how to find that ? The program downloaded and installed just fine, but I don't understand how to find the "zip file" in order to open it up. Is this something that disappeared when I did the install, or is it still hidden somewhere on my computer ? Thanks !!

The readme text file should be reworded because obviously you have to unzip the package before you can get to the readme file. Maybe something like this would be more appropriate:

Install the software by running setup.exe from the package you've unzipped.

I have installed this software, but it wouldn't launch.
And when I try to execute dxdiag command, I am getting an error saying that it "might have been a problem accessing DirectShow the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass DirectShow this time? Yes or No?"
And when I press "Yes", there is no VRAM value shown, and if I press "NO"-dxdiag window disappears, and I can see nothing.

I checked if my video card is up-to-date, and for sure it is.
My screen resolution is 1280 X 1024.

Cyberlink has a stable of excellent programs and I would love to try today's giveaway.

There are quite a number of knowledgeable contributors on this forum, so I am hoping that someone might have a solution to my problem (of not being able to launch CyberLink PhotoDirector).

Cheers,

consuella

Ok Windows 10 x64 Pro using the suggest method of getting it from program website. Fast email, so so speed d/l. Installed ok to D internal drive with lots of files.
That method does take your email & it has the serial attached to the file name and is of a different, shorter kind than GOTD one offers to your email if done that way. Serial gets auto plugged in during install using site.
Nice looking, runs fast. If you have a recent strong PC, do select the internal Help Prefs and check box the Hardware Acceleration for a speed boost. Thanks posters & GOTD

Even though they say it supports Vista, it doesn't seem to.

The application is misinterpreting the operating system version, hence the kernel32 error. The only solution is for the vendor to provide an updated version that runs under Vista.

Test Installed fine on win732 and win764.
Imported a photo (ya imported) did some testing works ok I'll keep it installed for times when a rough automatic function will fulfill a manual time consuming but accurate hand edit in another program.
This program would never replace a full featured editor, for one thing it has no ability to do anything outside its environment. There is no drag and drop, no open and save, no copy and paste there is only import and export. So these guys are insane if they think I'm going to import 12 gigs of photos into their program to store another copy or that I'm going to comment and flag and filter by comments all my photos. This might be something for someone who just got their first camera or phone and has no photo collection. What an insane idea.

Cyberlink have a habit of offering products that are not actually available to buy in the crippled form that they are often in.

This one though, on the surface, does have a listing on their site, so hopefully this will not be crippled in any way and will be a better way to give confidence to people to potentially upgrade to one of the more fully featured versions.

They seemed to have listened to past criticism, so thumbs up for that.

I have windows 10 64bit. Downloaded and activated it (twice now). I can only import photos from my system disc C: when I try to import from my external hard drive I get a continuously spinning star with the word loading even if I try for just one photo. If it would say what is wrong that would help. Tried running the program as administrator - no joy. I looked at the help and it said I should be able to import from an external drive. I store all my photos on that hard drive. If the deveoper can tell me how to give it permission to access my hard drive I would be greatful. Otherwise it is useless for me.
I just noticed that if I select "make an extra copy" it will import from my hard drive, but I dont want a second copy of all my photos on my C: drive.

Reply   |   Comment by David Murphy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+25)

David Murphy, I think the program by default will not change the original image. It should open fine as a copy, you only need to duplicate the files that you change.

Reply   |   Comment by GlenG  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

David Murphy,
Have you clicked on 'Library'
Has it searched your system for photos, David?

I have my Drive partitioned and that gives it no problems and it finds my USB drive and contents without a problem but I am 64bit W7.

Perhaps its a W10 speceific prob.

Reply   |   Comment by Terry E  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Terry E, It starts with library highlighted and clicking on it with it highligted does nothing. I was not aware that it searched my system for photos and cant find a way to ask it to do so. My hard disk is disc F:. So I create a new project and the folder for the project is on F: and its created it fine so it can read and write to F:. In the library tab is import I click on that and select photos from the pop up. It comes up with windows file manager and I navigate to F: select a photo and click on open. I get a window with a thumbnail without a picture and a yellow exclamation mark in the middle and some options. If I click on make extra copy all is well but if I click on keep in current location then import. For a brief moment it says no photo found just long enough for me to read it then I get a continuous revolving star and loading which it is not. It seems to me that there is a bug at the point where it transfers the path and filename from the file manager. I give up I just dont have the time for something so difficult.

Reply   |   Comment by David Murphy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Very quick download. During the install process, this message popped up:

*CODEC ACTIVATION
When you use certain technologies essential to multi-media functions for the first time, the software application will collect the serial number of your computer system and the product key (CD key) for activation purposes only.

Is it usual to have the serial number of the 'customer's' computer collected ?

Reply   |   Comment by framplot  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

framplot, usually this means they have included a 3rd-party commercial codec or licensed a technology for the product. This bit is just about confirming usage vs. how many they's paid for or will pay for.

Hi, I went straight to their homepage where you'll find:
'Download your Gift copy of
PhotoDirector 7 Deluxe
Exclusive download for Giveaway of the Day',

Next filled simple form with name and e-mail (I think e-mail is only needed in case they want you to agree to newsletters, but one can simply opt out), got License Key there and then on page (to be copied and pasted later on) and d/loaded Installer from THERE, rather than GOTD page, in this instance.

Once running Installer it downloads larger (264MB) exe file and gives choice where to install it. I created Folder on my external Drive, which is always useful if you're not sure it'll provide one and had no problem installing it. I have Win7 Premium, 64-bit.
Next run a shortcut from your desktop, start the Program and register with given Key.

I had 2 previous versions of PhotoDirector (5&6) on my PC and they stayed intact (during installation they'd ask if you want to keep your settings, I said yes to that)
I wish and hope is that easy for everyone else. It's generally a useful and decent Photo Tool to have and enjoy! Thanks.

I took a different route today and visited Cyberlink's product page for the download because I read the other reviewer's complaint about the download speed and thought what the heck.

Went to check my email, sure enough there's the download link and License Key.

I downloaded the setup file in a few seconds (3 maybe). Scanned file (though I trust CyberLink), ran the setup which downloaded the install files from CyberLink in about 40 seconds (264.94 MB file). Scanned said file and installed in less than two minutes.

Launched program, then using the License Key which was mailed to me I activated the program. Wow. From bing to bang in under 5 minutes... nothing to complain about there. I'm on fast internet but use an ancient 6GB rig and Windows 7 Pro 64.

Offered a choice of registering the software or not, I prefer to not enjoy the benefits of regular mailings. :)

Just click the box to Skip Registration.

Dialog box opens. "Would you like to participate in the CyberLink Product Improvement Program?" I believe in helping the developers (especially since I get to use their product for free) but in my case, on this old machine, I don't need any more memory being lost to background noise so I chose no (sorry CyberLink, you know I love you).

Program opens much faster that Photoshop (CS6). I loved the intuitive and modern looking install interface and when the program opens it looks nice and dapper... no 1995 throwback here.

I don't have time at the moment to use and report on the specific capabilities/limitations of this program, but given CyberLink's reputation with good software and the fantastic install process, there's no reason not to give this one a huge thumbs up.

Awesome GoTD!

Wilbur, great suggest. Install on W10-64bit very nicely, no issues at all. I've done similar downloads and installs in the past which I've found to be a better alternative. No trouble opening any photos regardless of drives and directories, it found them all. Processed one of my photos as a test and I was very happy with the results.

Downloaded and installed pretty quickly for me, and I have an old, slow computer with a quirky internet connection. Can't speak to how the program works yet, but the download process wasn't an issue for me.

Can't tell you how good the program is because I haven't used it yet but the installation was extremely smooth and quick - two minutes from start to finish. As #3 said the registration key is in the readme file. However in order to register you must enter an email address although you can decline to receive email with special offers etc. etc.

The registration key can be found in the readme file or you can get it from the publisher's site. This is a pleasant change from other publishers that require an email address. Unfortunately this was the high point of the installation process for me.

The setup file is a 1.1 MB downloader file. It downloads a 264.94 MB package. The install process is not a normal one. you will need to run the setup file as administrator if you want to change the install folder.

I had my Shadow Defender on so I proceeded with the install. It got to 2 % and stalled. I went for a walk and came back... still at 2%. I waited a while longer but there was no progress. I canceled with the task manager and uninstalled via reboot. Thank you for the offer but I will have to pass.
