Ho Ho Ho

Pros
- Very nice looking tool icons.
- Fast GUI (a clear winner on older XP PC´s)
- The effects is close to pro photo programs, (excl. Crop), they do a fast and clean job.

Cons
- Lack of effect tools, when I look at the price of the program
- Crop leave a lot of improvement behind and is time-eating to use. Crop should be real-time adjustable.

Conclusion
I have a lot of photo tool programs on my PC and todays offer is now one of them. But I wouldn´t pay $20 for this program, if it came to that point, cause there is many other photo tool programs out there to buy, which offer more effects for the price.

Merry Christmas to All of You !

The crop feature works exactly opposite of just about every other photo managing program out there, and the help file offers very little help in how to do it. The picture in the help file looks as if they have made 2 different rectangles and then crop deletes the matter between the two rectangles. However, I cannot make 2 separate rectangles with the program; the first one deletes as I trace the second. If I just draw one rectangle, then the part I want to save is deleted. If I tic "cut" in options, then the space I desire to keep turns black; if I tick "color" in options, it merely turns my desired crop into the color I chose. This is way too complicated than it has to be. I haven't the time tonight to check out the other details of this program, but I sure hope they are easier than trying to crop!

It does seem, though, that this is a young program; perhaps they are looking for comments to help the program improve? It seems to have a lot of potential, but I sure would love to know how the crop works.

Just a quick comment for person(s) who isn't getting activated: I don't know why this isn't in the Read-Me, but over the years, I have discovered that unticking the auto-start-up of the program at the end of installation, (meaning that the program won't automatically open when you close the installer) and then run the activator while the program is still off. Then when you turn the program back on, you will see in the "About" section of Help that it is registered. This also works for those programs that don't have a separate activation setup. There are some who have the activator built into the single installer. Again, untick the auto start-up of the new program at the end of installation and turn it on manually after you are sent to the activation page on Giveawayoftheday.com. This one trick has stopped 90% of my frustration with this site.

And thank you GAOTD and Lifesniffer for your generous offering. I truly appreciate it.

The quickest and working activation method. 1. First run Activate.exe however. 2. Run Setup.exe. You don't need uncheck the “Run Program” in the final installation window, you have working program. Tested on Win 7 Starter.

Merry Christmas to everyone and thank you GOTD team for your hard work.

Hi All
Merry Christmas.
Thanks GOTD for all these years of giveaways. It isn't just that the software is free but also all your followers help weed out the good and the bad or mediocre. I have bought a lot of software over the years which I haven't gotten around to installing. I wish I had publics opinion if it will work on my system etc.. Couple of things I did install and they didn't work :-( .
So Thanks again for this site :-)

Downloaded installed, activated it. Rather disappointed in all the cloaking about the free to members. Faststone is miles ahead of this software...if it states it's free...there is a catch or gimmic behind it. But this is just me. Sorry, it's just not what it's made out to be. But also I am sure someone will be happy to get it.

Wow! This software is SUPER easy to use with great first time results! I am sitting here editing some pix to be used at my father in-laws memorial service next week. Red eye removal and spot removal are the tools I have tried so far, and with zero experience with this software I am GREAT easy results! Cheers to the programmers and to GoTD for bringing this to me at a very opportune time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

GOTD is the only site that I visit every day, and have done so for the past couple of years since I found you. Thank you for so many great soft-wares. I don't know of another site that gives so much freely to web users. In any given year, the total retail value of the software that passes through GOTD to the world must be astronomical.

When I tell many people about your site, they react like their must be some hidden gimmick for such valuable quality stuff to be offered daily. Finally, all I can say to them is, "Just bookmark GOTD and visit it daily. The site will soon prove to be unique and invaluable."

Merry Christmas GOTD and thank you for your daily gifts.

#15, #19, actually, it's hard to find a freeware image editor without a clone tool. I don't have all of the tools which I listed installed, but paint.net, PixBuilder Studio, Chasys Draw IES, Photoscape, and probably others all have clone tools. Also note that many tools have recent updates, it's common for software developers to push out new releases before the end of the year. Some have extensive plugins, many accept Photoshop plugins (paint.net does that via a plugin, and accepts 32- and 64-bit plugins on a 64-bit OS).

Seems simple and pretty decent. Everything DOES seem to work for me, unlike the feller above.
I'm unaware of any freeware with a clone tool, like this.

Only has a few features, but the included selection / marker tool is out of the ordinary. A new user should study http://www.photo-toolbox.com/features/lasso-marquee-selection-tool.html to understand how to use it. As an example: your selection can be plus /minus so and so many pixels! This is a useful but rare feature.

Photo Toolbox installed cleanly. Always extract the files from the GOTD zip archive before installing, and never let the installer launch the application. Simple activation. Photo Toolbox always requests Internet access, even if you turn off update checking in the options.

Photo Toolbox is a curious mix of modern (e.g., supports Aero glass) and old-school UI. Since this is obviously a very simple and very limited image editor, I expected it to be easy to use for beginners. It's curious because it has very basic tools, and then a few more advanced tools, like color curves. However, I found the online Help to be inadequate, and many things downright hard to use and not at all obvious. Right-clicking on the image will get you more options. I found it very hard to figure out what it was doing. For example, Dodge and Burn seemed pretty obvious from the Help, although difficult to use without a sample brush to visually indicate settings. However, it used a previous Magic Wand color selection to limit the Dodge (unexpected), but not the Burn. I didn't have any luck with the operations required for complex selections. A simple Intersect worked (I didn't have any problems with the Lasso tool), but not more complex selections using the Magic Wand. Maybe it will be obvious to someone else. Saving JPEGs does give you a quality option when you actually perform the save.

There is the obvious question of why a developer would even enter this space. There are so many freeware alternatives with many features, such as Windows Live Essentials Photo Gallery 2011 (I noticed that MS has recently dropped the year, no doubt in anticipation of 2012, but I'm leaving it to distinguish from earlier versions), paint.net, PixBuilder Studio, Chasys Draw IES, Raw Therapee, FastStone Image Viewer, IrfanView, XnView, etc.

Open the zip file and erun setup.exe to install the program. Don't open the program after installation. Then run activate.exe. It will register the program. You can confirm this by running the prog and opening the dropdown help menu.

Please observe #1's instructions, which will help you install and activate correctly.
This program works like a reduced version of Paint Shop Pro (which works as a simplified version of Adobe PhotoShop). If you have neither of those programs, this one could be an inexpensive solution. It has all the most frequently used tools, but also it requires some studying time, if you are not acquainted with a "real" photo editor. The help function is on-line, and it is simple to understand. I can surely recommend this small photo editor, and to some of you it could be a fun toy to play around with these days. Happy holidays, everyone!

No problem getting the registered version on XP SP3 after following instructions in the readme file. Run Activate.exe last, after Setup.exe and it's registered. But I'm not impressed with the software. It's no better than the many freeware alternatives that I'm sure will be mentioned here and that we've all heard of. It's not ridiculously expensive, but you shouldn't have to pay for this at all. It works very well (although the red-eye removal tool seemed to work only sporadically and took several tries sometimes, it does an excellent job when it works). The interface is rather clunky, also. It could have taken up a lot less space. Worth keeping if you have nothing else, but you'd be better off in my opinion with FastStone or IrfanView or any of the others that you don't have to worry about paying for if you lose them.

Thank you GotD and LifeSniffer, and Happy Holidays to all!

Am using XP with SP3. Downloaded and installed program folling the instructions of GOTD. Clicking on Activate.exe brougnt me to the GOTD Activated site. However when opening Photo Tootbox it says it is trial version, even after shuttling down and reload Windows. Please enlightened me on how to register the said photo toolbox.

Slow download, fast install. Sadly, when you hit activate, it tells you to follow instructions in the readme. Read me only says to click on activate. Sounds bogus. Thanks, GOTD, but, thumbs down.

When installing, uncheck the "Run Program" in the final installation window. Then exit the installation without starting up Photo Toolbox. Then run the Activate file.
It gave me a trial version when I ran the Activate file when Photo Toolbox was opened, but Activated properly when Photo Toolbox was closed.
