Tried it on my 2 PC's, XP SP2 and XP SP3. Both got the pdf2image.dll file missing error. The file is there but not useable by the program. The authors need to work on thier setup. PDF2Word and PDF2HTML worked fine on the PC's.

It worked ONCE then I had to reinstall. It worked ONCE again. This works good ONCE. It sucks other than that.

Same trouble here " pdf2image.dll" missing even after a reboot so what good is the program if its not going to work and if you uninstall it there goes the code to make it work what is the use anyway.

Thanks GAOTD for this nice software. I actually had a need for it.

OK, folks. It is a good idea to reboot your computer after installing any program. Most require it, although not all. Once that is done. Start the program. It works or it doesn't. This one works fine on Windows Vista Home Premium on MY computer. Does what it says it does. Uninstalled it because Inkscape is Open Source which I fully support. After all a computer should function and paying for it and then paying for things to make it function is ludicrous, IMO.
Secondly, it is OK to complain about a program when it fails to deliver. GAOTD offerings are supposed to be FULLY functional. If they are not, COMPLAIN loudly. Winamp, for instance, makes big claims but your task manager shows you all the information that the Winamp offering here does. To get a FULLY functional copy of Winamp that tells you what the "dfksdfhjh.dld" file actually controls, you are required to pay a one time fee for the file that makes Winamp FULLY functional. That means that the Winamp program is, by definition, NOT fully functional and should NOT be a candidate for GAOTD.
GAOTD is a wonderful place and offers some really goood stuff MOST of the time. For that I am thankful. But when a program fails to deliver as promised, free or not, GAOTD and its users dhould be made aware.
Users should post their operating system when making obdervations about non-functionalityNewer programs will not work on older systems sometimes. Sometimes they do. Both kinds of info is useful. This program works on newer systems and is OK for what it is. Irecommend it to those who don't have access to other options.

Disappointing.
Program installed without a hitch, but there's no option to convert to EMF as advertised on GAOTD and at the developers website.
Does anyone know of a program that performs reliable and accurate conversions from PDF to WMF/EMF while maintaining vector and font information?

@66. Certainly requests are well within the realm of proper use.
Nope. Not when it's free stuff involved. You take what they offer or move on. You don't demand or request when you are being given something for free. That's just the way it works. You are being given a gift.
And this is not equivalent to a “free clothing store,” but rather the online equivalent to passing out free copies to promote a product.
Free copies that would normally run you cold hard cash. If it weren't for this site Charles, you and the fellow who threatened to "remove the ticker" would not be getting a copy for free. So like you said, the people who whine about the whiners and yourself, complaining about the people who complain about the complainers. At least I through up my two sense about the products.
Save | Cancel
To all of the whining idiots...or those suggesting using PRTSC... you don't know what you're talking about. There are plenty of times you need CONTROL over a PDF to image conversion. PRTSC only gives you a fullscreen bitmap that you still have to process in another piece of software.

hmmm. on win2k it didn't register pdf2image.dll, though it did change the registered locations for many other dll's. I did the run-only-after-reboot just in case but no joy. ignore my last 2 comments.

Installed ok (?), and did the reboot as suggested by everyone, but get the error “file not found :pdf2image.dll" with Win XP Media Center, SP3. Say’s it converted, but no image results anywhere with a search over my entire hard drive.
It's getting near the end of the day and I see no, posts about how to get this program working. Ironically, the pdf2image.dll file is sitting in the installed directory next to the pdf2image.exe file. This turned out to be a huge waste of time with yet another bloat of my registry. (sigh!) The lesson I learned was to read all the comments before installing anything from GAOTD and skip it if problems are reported.
Save | Cancel
So, that was fun. I am actually a fairly new user to GAOTD, and am just a little frustrated that I keep seeing programs from the same company. I get that I'm whining about free stuff (as I already mentioned in my first post, thanks for bringing it up anyway) but I was hoping to discover new things on this site. I figured that was the point. The few times I comment, I usually do so for a reason, not because I'm a chronic complainer. I'm glad that there are people who have found a use for this, I would just like to see something new, even if it is useless.
Thank you to Charles M. Barnard for one of the more useful comments on this site. I agree that I did whine about the offering, but I appreciate you actually reading my comment thoroughly, not just reacting to the first sentence. And what you said is absolutely true. Criticism should be detailed, with pointers to what is good and to what is bad, specifically.
That said, I think this might actually be one of the better ways to convert a pdf. A random use--and I do mean random--would be to convert downloaded comics from pdf to image, which would load faster and be easier to navigate when reading through. My question is, how long does this take to convert a page (for those of you who could get it to work)?

like so many others, .dll not found and re-boot didn't fix it. Third program I've downloaded, third program that's failed to deliver. For those of you for whom it worked, I'm glad. I won't be back. Apologies to anyone who thinks that's unnecessary negativity.

A sample of how this program could be useful: I work as a systems admin for a REALTOR® Assoc. and photos are important in any MLS (multiple listing servive) when agents are trying to market a piece of vacant land all they have sometimes is a pdf of a plat map. One of our servers only allow jpg, gif, and tif formats, I need to convert these files so they can be uploaded to our web server.
Here is an example of the software.
pdf file: http://tinyurl.com/6apk68

I hope this sheds some light on why these programs can be helpful.

Conversion conversion, yeah there are a lot of 'em, but one that converts to JPG could be helpful. If you get a design from a designer as I did for a logo in PDF format. copying it caused so much lossey effects it was awful, I can't remember how I finally got around that, but it was complicated. This, if it works right, could do it much easier. We will see. CKO

This little app. does exactly what is supposed to. While many of the posters claim they do not have a need for these conversion programs, there are those that will find it useful. I use Adobe CS3 master collection (with Acrobat and Live Cycle) for most of my PDF conversions, however it is nice to have a light-weight alternetive.
It installed correctly on my Win XP SP3 machine and converted files without any errors. Converted file was a little grainy but very usable at 100% zoom. For all the posters whining about the quality of software offered by GAOTD Beggers can't be Choosers. I know it sounds cliche' but is suiting for the many trolls posting on this site.

I've never complained about this site since it's free, and I don't plan to today.. but I am choosing not to download. There's a *much* easier way to do this. #13 mentioned the snapshot tool in Adobe Reader (free version).. but there's another *easy* way too. Open your Adobe document. While open and looking at it, hit the "Prnt Scrn" key on your keyboard.. (top right) Now open any picture program, let's say Paint, just to keep basic Windows stuff here.. Click Paste (or Ctrl-V). Presto; your PDF is there ready to be saved as a picture! Sure, you may need to crop a bit, but hell, you can do this with a brand new out-of-the-box computer; no addons. All the same, thanks GOTD for yet another free program!
