Help!

When I try to unzip the file, it say that there is nothing contained in the file, and I get an error message.

Has anyone else gotten this? Any ideas?

Thanks!

D'loaded and activated on the day it was offered. What a great deal! Although there are other freeware-always tag editors, the developers of this one have a more complete website and help file.

Part of the agreement with GOTD is no free support but complete support is already there for this product. Read it and you shouldn't have any problems or further questions. Great support speaks well for the developer and is an indication of a well-written program.

Never heard of "AQUATRA Inc." software before this, but considering how careful the help file and site was written for this program I would definitely consider buying future titles from Aquatra.

What happened is exactly what I said: when I try to run activate.exe, it opens my ftp client. I previously downloaded/installed/activated another program through Giveaway of the Day with no problems, and no changes have been made to my file type permissions since then, so the problem must be with .exe file. It's not that big of a deal, so no extra effort needs to be done to make sure I have a copy since it's now the next day.

I totally agree with #15 on the clever advertising technique. Hopefully more of these will blossom and give consumers a well deserved rest from having to pay constantly for upgrades to programs as they develop. I have no problem paying for any of my soft ware, but it is nice to be able to try fully and for an extended period before you finally have to buy it because of the dreaded format, which all of us must have to do at some point each year. At least the extended software usage will give me a better idea as to whether I wasted my money or got a real bargain. (That is once I finally have to delete the software and get a replacement because the activation only works on that particular day), although if you check some of the stuff previously downloaded there are exceptions to this, for example I didn't need an internet connection for Arkanoid: The Virtual Isles. As I copied the downloaded zip file onto a pen and transferred it to one of the computers I have that isn't connected to the net and the activation key produced an activation code which I copied and pasted into the demo version of the game and it worked. Which means it should work whenever however you do tick an agreement not to reinstall it after the official activation period.

Many thanks to the giveaway of the day team for bringing us this new way of consumerism. It's far better than any previous model I've ever come across as I'm feeling like I'm winning.

As for the games section. That also is brilliant, as I've been rather narrowminded in my purchasing of arcade games for both myself and my family. To date I've purchased 120 arcanoid games and nothing else, lol. This games givaway will hopefully wean me off the arkanoid bug as I'll get to try for an extended period all manner of arcade games. Can't wait. Thankyou very much.

Too all those who have been whining about whatever, shame on you. Only the othr day all you saw on these pages were positive comments about the software, or requests for help, none of this having a go at each other. Enjoy don't make this into another typically hve a go at joe blogs because of their beliefs and opinions. We all need to chill out and take this for what it is..... A great oppertunity to have virtually unlimited access to lots of useful software packages with the promise of suprises in the near future.

I don't know how some people can't tell that the software has to be installed and activated on the giveaway day, since there is a countdown timer telling you that you have only so many hours and minutes left. How much clearer can it be?
As for being able to activate without being connected to the internet, that is something that might be useful for a few people, but it probably isn't a priority for the site operator.
And to the people who don't want programs that they can't reload later: Nobody is making you download these programs. If you don't want them, just go away and leave us alone. If I get a program from this site that I can't live without, I'll pay for it. Otherwise, if I lose it for some reason, I haven't lost any money, so I don't care.
Keep up the good work GiveawayoftheDay guys.

#7. Sunny, I agree - this is a valid point to make, and I hope the GOTD people provide a sensible reply.

#8. Pay attention. You accuse #7 of something that has no relationship to what he said. You also insult him even though it's you who is misinformed. An apology is in order.

#10. As with #8. What are you complaining about? The fact that someone has a suggestion about making the verification process accommodate people who haven't always got internet access? Are you so opposed to helping others? Shame on you.

As for me, I also agree with #12: it's not clear that each software offering has to be installed and activated on the day it's downloaded. Where does it say that? Where are the T&C spelled out? I have seen it on the MP3 Tag Editor blurb, but not on any of the other previous offers. If it's true of all the offerings, then I'd like to see where that's explained. This is partly because I have limited use for software that I cannot reinstall after one of my periodic system upgrades/refurbs. GOTD is great in some respects, but I'd like to know more about what I'm getting....

Sylvie, relax a little. It didn't seem to me like Africa was bashing anyone, but merely making a suggestion. Ever hear of internet cafe's? Perhaps he/she gets downloads from there then installs at home.

Either way, kudos to "GiveAwayOfTheDay" - excellent idea.

@ giveaway of the day team

Guys I think he (monogodo) is saying he can't see the activation html page that contains your key.

It's most likely he set to open local html files to open in his ftp client rather in his browser.

Might wanna just give him a key.

Activate.exe cannot open/start 3rd party programs, there is no such functionality in the program's code. Could you please provide us with more details?

It trys to open a webpage on your local Harddrive. The webpage has the key.

If you email me I can send you a key from a redownloaded copy (that I haven't validated).

My email is on the contact page of my linked name.

@Mark:12

Time Limited means that it's complete free if you download and install and activate today (all programs come with an activate.exe). Afterwards the trial is over, and the activate.exe file becomes null. If you run activate.exe today after you installed the program then you get the full version free.

Many thanks for these free daily software offers.

Either as a promotion to bring more people to this site, a promotion to introduce and showcase a single, or additional software programs by the author, or just as way for the authors to get feedback on the free program offered, I think it is a good idea.

I've tried a few of these offered programs, some that work as expected and solve a need, others just clutter that get used once or twice if they work for me at all. If it's a really great program, I'd certainly recommend it to others, or buy it if upgrading is needed. Either way, I'll keep checking this site when I remember, to see what new offers are posted.

At last, the GAOTD install wrapper works correctly under windows 9x systems... took ya time, but thanks for fixing it! I think this is a very interesting advertising model, certainly gets me checking in to see what's on offer next, as opposed to skiping over or blocking push-advertising. Will I buy if I need to re-install in the future? I don't know yet. But this has got me trying out the "Free Extended period, full feature trials" of products I would never have normally chased down. Which is a step in the right direction for the developer:-)
For those that don't understand this is NOT a site for giving away unlimited licenses free, but giving away a free one day install full feature license on the understanding that windows will eventually force you into a roll-back or re-format that will wipe the product, effectivly ending the free extended full feature trial period.
Based on MS windows performance in the past I see no reason why this limit to the "extended trial" should not continue to be a viable expectation. At that time if the software had proved itself of "must have" value we are likely to consider purchasing it due to the goodwill that gave us the free extended trial in the first place.

A pleasant balance of putting software in front of ones eyes and making it relatively painless to get comfortable with it if it's to ones likeing. Saving having to search out for things we may not even know someones coded something for.

As for the freeware tag editor commented on earlier, current version is winNT or later only as it does not impliment unicode in a manner compatible with the MS unicode wrapper for win9x systems. To use it under win9x one has to use an old revision pre-the unicode branch in its development. Its development history suggests the win9x final revision has alot of bugs to be fixed when one looks at the next step in the revision history. I guess it's a fall-back if one misses out on this offering here.

Poor Guys at "Giveway of the Day". You give the world FREE software, and what you get in return are complains about the fact that there are OTHER software of that kind, or, best of all, this email from Africa (first time I read a mail sent in the name of a whole continent !) bashing you on the fact that this software should NOT be offered through the internet, because... there are people not connected there ! Hello ? How funny, how ridiculous, how stupid. Let me just tell you that, apart a bunch of lunatics or never satistied free-grabber, there are a lot of very happy guys and girls like me that whises you a great success for 2007, with all my thanks for what you already gave us.

Re: Sunny Albortio

Having an activation key in a zip file that did not require a connection to the interent, would mean the giveaway could be exploited and activated after the giveaway day.

If your system doesn't have any connection then how did you post your comment? Seriously, I don't see a lot of computers without internet that would even remotely benefit from the programs... The internet is what controls everything, without that you cant even say you have experienced using a computer. Tell the people that want the software to use your connection or something else.

I see no problem with what the site is offering right now, and they are doing an OUTSTANDING job.

I like to suggest to you that some part of the world does not enjoy the proliferation of computers connected to the WWW or Internet. Freewares should be given out with there activation keys in ZIP format so that the freeware could be installed by anyone without depending on INTERNET CONNECTIVITY. Most of the software appear not to be free because when you take it home on a flashdrive and install it on your local PC or computer, the activation program starts looking for the developer homepage for one reason or the other. This is not a fare way of make a software free to the public. I have developed a lot of screensavers in the past and when I make free, I do not add any string that prevents the user from installing it. In short the user does not require internet connection before running the saver. PLEASE LET THE COMPANIES WHO DONATE SOFTWARE FOR FREE KNOW THIS. Thanks from Africa

One of the great draws of this website was that even up until a few days ago, programs from this site were 'certified' to be 100% free of spy/malware. The site no longer makes these claims. Are we to assume the lack of such a 'certification' to be an oversight or just a change from the original policy?
