This screensaver is an outstanding 3D model of the solar system. Every planet is there along with its satellites and even a small info graph with basic facts. All the proportions and trajectories are right. It's not only the sheer beauty but also the educational content that make Solar System 3D Screensaver an absolute must-have.
Space tourism is only available to very rich people. Among its primary attractions is the awesome and thrilling feeling of looking at the Earth from space described by all astronauts as extremely intense and mind-boggling. This screensaver provides a unique opportunity to do that without having to pay 20 million dollars. It is a fantastically realistic 3D model of the planet!
Let your screen take you away to a quiet place in the forest. Watch the little peaceful bugs and ants running about their business. A funny little spider making a web. Dew drops on the leaves. Birds twittering somewhere in the branches above?

Travel back in time and marvel at the glory and splendor of Ancient Rome by day and night. You’ll be charmed by the peace and serenity of the Eternal City as the night descends on its seven hills and the bright silent moon illuminates its graceful statues. Enjoy the beauty of Rome with its picturesque landscapes and architectural masterpieces.
Don't know if anyone will see this, but to Astro Gemini, thank you! I love all the colors, the more-random-than-usual motions in the scene, the overall feel of it. Very relaxing. Marine Life 3D has become one of my favorite screen savers (and I have about 40 of them). It's not photo-realistic but in so many ways it's even better than that. Well done!

Long ago I bought this aquarium screensaver. I have not found another one that is as realistic as this one. You can buy extra fish and manipulate which type of fish will display on the screensaver (freshwater or saltwater or both). There are settings for the amount of water that fills your screen, how many fish, etc. I love it.
This is the home page: http://uselesscreations.com/wp/

This takes you to the description page regarding the fish. The version displayed on the page looks old but it's probably been updated. The other info is more important.

Thankfully, there haven't been any comments telling us that screensavers are unnecessary because of the way modern displays are constructed. Screensavers have gravitated from being necessary to save one's screen from "burn-in" to a form of entertainment to please the eyes (and ears too?) while one's system is idle.
Sure, the graphics are "crude" by today's standards of super-high-definition video, but the display is still pleasant and the animations are smooth - and "lifelike" to the extent that the fish move in the same manner that real fish do. Admittedly the audio track becomes monotonous after a while, as will ANY audio content that's played endlessly until "user input" of some sort is detected.
Does this software have any real utilitarian function?
Not really, but it does serve as pleasant "eye-candy" for times when you're not hammering away in a flame war in some obscure forum somewhere or posting incriminating material on your Facebook page that will destroy your chances of obtaining the job of your dreams...

There are better alternatives (both free and paid) to today's giveaway. I've had this screensaver installed previously and I found myself never using it. It's not bad, but it's not really good either. However, if you really want an aquarium styled screensaver I say go for it.
If you'd like some free alternatives, Nvidia is giving away a few nice 3D screensavers. They're Nvidia branded, but I don't see a problem with that. Some of the screensavers they're giving away are "Western Railway", "Sunny Village", "Lost Watch 2" and more.

Now here's a paid alternative to the aquarium offered today, and is in my opinion "the best". It's not resource heavy despite being very pretty. It also doesn't require a good graphics card (a netbook could run this), it's called "Dream Aquarium".

Thanks GAotD and Astro Gemini, but I'll pass on the offer today.

One of AG's better screensavers, but it's still very obviously CG and looks dated. I've seen better.

#2: "Or you could go onto youtube and watch a genuine underwater landscape on full screen."
Some people prefer screensavers like today's GOTD -- it's certainly cuter than most underwater scenes -- but if realism is your thing, using "video screensaver" [without quotes] Google had ~147,000,000 hits, so you shouldn't have trouble finding an app you like that'll play your video as a screensaver. If I remember correctly there's even a way to get Windows to do it.
That said, I've no idea how the quality of free HD video you'll find on-line compares to the footage sold for this sort of thing but AFAIK aimed at larger screen HDTVs.
