uh yeah...I have to agree with the dude who uses Magentic. This one is pretty lame. way too heavy on the system for what it's worth. Magentic is no light weight either. I ran it for a day or so, then changed the options to not run on startup; and only use the walpaper. the screen saver was super high quality, but at too large a price to my hardware. All in all, the whole screensaver thing is over; the LCD monitors do have some issues with burn in, but most systems are not too rough on them. I would rather see something else useful instead of cute cuddly apps that don't add any value to my system.
I do have to say that I like a great desktop wallpaper though. High quality, imaginative, creative, unusual pics to show under the 157 icons I have on screen. That does interest me.

Anyway, GOTD does a pretty good job of giving us variety. Keep rocking guys.

I wonder why people go on and on so much that they don't like screensavers. I haven't downloaded one other program besides a few of the games. The other ones are converters and stuff for your mobil phone that I don't use, etc. I have Roxio for making CDs and DVDs and some unknown softwares screw up my computer.

ANOTHER screensaver?! No thanks, I’m happy with my blank screen.

why not jkdefrag, do something useful (speed up your computer a taste) with otherwise wasted cpu time? when it finishes a different screensaver would remind you to turn off your computer.

Now we Muslims and Christians being commented on, What goes??

they're forgetting to pick on buddists and us pagans and agnostics?

those that claim no one will watch- well, you know those anti-rsi timers? better than grinding your teeth at what you were trying to get done while giving your hands a break. the ssaver doesn't have to take forever to come on.

personally I can type for maybe 15 minutes and then have to wait a half hour or more before I can use my fingers again.

I just thought that I should give my honest advice to the GAOTD Team and hope that they stop these regular screensaver giveaways.

and give us a day of nothing at all while they try to rustle up something else? at least a few like them.

as for power, if you have an lcd screen there is a neglishable difference in drain between displaying a screensaver, blank- or turned off!

the wall wart keeps dissipating power anyway.

Screensavers are good for those who want to see the planets power source die

do the math, and quit cooking your food and washing and drying your clothes. an hour of dryer use is thousands of hours of a screensaver's lcd draw.

an electric element on a stove can run 5 kilowatts- really, do the math and conserve where it does some good.

I like to read books- just as much of a waste as I usually read ebooks. OTOH, the paper kind cost power too in lights at night.

ah well, you can't get reality through to most people anyway.

@84-JK
Wow, this is a first time a comment came along with a Prologue and a Epilogue.
This must have been really important to you. But is it important to us?

Quote:'And i am pretty sure that no one will spend hours or even minutes just sitting on the computer seat and watching the screensaver while their computer is doing some stuff in the background.'
Even when I don't use the pc, but -for whatever reason- I left it on or even wanted to leave it on I walk across the room and see the nice scenery. That's good enough for me, it's a bit like aquarium lovers do.

Quote:'So, instead of using a screensaver at all, you can simply set your computer to automatically turn off after being idle for a few minutes'
It is clear you don't realize that a screensaver can do that for you and more. If you don't like to reboot you can make a screensaver locking your pc. Only with a password you regain access. Many companies use this as a security policy against abusing a pc while someone is called away for a meeting or something like that. Very usefull I might add, not just for fun.

Quote:'But my point is that giving away a screensaver is just a waste of great resources.'
What resources do you need when a screensaver is running. It is typically running when the pc is idle for some time.

Quote:'This is a comments section right, and not a praise section. Comments mean honest advice that may help the developer make their website better.'
Do you mean comments cannot be any praise? Isn't it honest advice when people speak out that they like it just as much as they don't like it?

Quote:'I will still visit this site daily & First time that I have given such a huge comment.'
So you should know better & try not being the one who knows what is best for everybody. Opinions are there in all sorts not only yours. But having YOUR opinion is fine among all the very different others.

this should'nt be an offering from gotd...totally pointless.
gotd should be offering real software and applications useful to our pcs, not garbage that can be found on so many websites, and to let alone CHARGE FOR IT???!!! sure, it's a giveaway; screensavers are NOT worth being here...just trash being put out from the gotd team on a weekend to say "hey, we're offering so-and-so screensaver today" while they are off doing whatever..
why don't gotd just take the damn weekend off...relax...think of good things to giveaway mon-to-fri, instead of hand-me-down trash like this?

#22, I've had a-squared give me a number of false alerts on programs, including some GAOTDs, while scans with other engines found nothing. Anytime I get an alert on a GAOTD, I upload the file to VirusTotal, which scans it with multiple engines and gives a report showing all the engines that scanned the file and rhe results for each engine. After scanning with VirusTotal and getting the scan results, then you can more accurately assess the situation.
http://www.virustotal.com/

Although when I have a screensaver running, it is usually the screensaver for a World Community Grid/BOINC distributed computing medical research project, someetimes I do like to run a differently themed screensaver just for fun, just like sometimes I use holiday themed cursors just for fun.

In my experience, GAOTD has averaged about one giveaway screensaver a month! That's not what I consider to be overly frequent at all. Besides, NOBODY can EVER please everybody all of the time!

As to whether the screensaver is occultic or not, that's a matter of individual interpretation. What one person sees as occultic, another may see as merely being fantasy and imagination!

Hey Mansion Trash - Just as Steve has the right to say whatever he wishes, however poorly thought out, phrased and spelled... so do other people. If he wants to draw outrageous conclusions from a dopey little screen saver and voice it in public, fair criticism ought to be expected as part of the discussion. I am quite sure nobody else here would have made any comment about religion had it not been for Steve the spruiker.

And Lenny B - you're (meaning you are) - not your (indicating ownership)RIGHT! I wonder what moderation means? Certainly not censorship.

AG has some pretty cool screen savers, no doubt about it, but the company it's self SUCKS, they have lousy customer service, tech support and just all around crappy service, my wife bought a couple SS's from them a couple years ago, and had problems, wrote for help and to this day has never recieved an answer, I even wrote them a couple times and nothing, and you have to be doing pretty bad when you can't even give away your product, pretty much screen savers are entertainment / relaxation now any way, with the flat panel monitors, (LCD/TFT) their not needed even the CRT one's no longer have a problem with screen burn in.

but the bottom line, AG is a crappy company

You people that want to rip away Steve's rights to use his
freedom of speech, remember this, you are also ripping away
you're own at the same time.
The screensaver is indeed designed for those on the darkside.
Its silly, which means that most people will never see the
depth of the storyline it carries, sweet poison in other words.

OT: #41, OKFJ - after reading your comment, I decided to go back and check out #8, Steve M.'s web site. I find it to be Christian, and not Muslim, as #72 pointed out, but I disagree with his list of 'do nots' when pertaining to radio and TV. Also, he needs to do some serious spell checking.

#63, GrouchE - I was wondering why you said that about computers, until I read Steve's list, as mentioned above. I might add that on that note, you do have a major point, although you do come across sounding might nasty. Not flaming you, here, but just an observance.

#75, Cam - though you have a point that this is not a religious site, your comment was nasty, and 'below-the-belt'.

Lastly, to #8, Steve - I am not 'ragging' on you, as I am also a Christian, but there is a time and place for speaking out for Jesus. Remember, even Jesus had His times and places for speaking/preaching, and He will let you know when/where yours is. One other question I have for you is (as a couple of other posters pointed out) how do you justify using a computer when you are clearly against all other forms of media? You can watch TV and listen to the radio on the computer.

Prologue: Before Starting my comment I must say that I love the giveaways from GAOTD and even if I dont download them, I appreciate this site.

Screensavers; whats the point anyway ? Why does anyone "need" a screensaver? You may "want" a screensaver but you do not need one. And you may only want it because it just looks pretty and not because its helpful. That is just childish. Well, everyone loves eye-candy, I do too, but only when it comes bundled with some nice, productive, helpful stuff. I like beautiful desktop wallpapers, but not screensvers, beacuse you can't use them or look at them. Let me explain. The whole point of a screensaver is to protect your screen "while you are away", and when you are away, how would you enjoy all the eye-candy that the screensaver offers you. And i am pretty sure that no one will spend hours or even minutes just sitting on the computer seat and watching the screensaver while their computer is doing some stuff in the background. Of course they will get-up, go outside, goto bed, watch TV or do something else and leave the computer, along with the screensaver, behind.

Somewhere I had read that screensavers protect your monitor from screen burning (or something like that, and its only useful if you dont have an LCD Monitor), if your computer is left on for a prolonged period of time. So, instead of using a screensaver at all, you can simply set your computer to automatyically turn off after being idle for a few minutes. It will save your screen as well as power (electricity).

Many peolple think that screensavers are fun and many would say (in response to my comment) that, hey, what if its useless, its free! I must confess that I have also liked some screensavers, especially the Jonny Castway (its not eye-candy-ish, but its good)and would'nt mind having this screensaver on my PC, considering the fact that I dont have to pay for it.

But my point is that giving away a screensaver is just a waste of great resources. GAOTD could have used this day to giveaway some other useful software. It would'nt make much difference for GAOTD whether they offer a $20 screensaver or a $20 other software. (Well I may be wrong at this point, and it may make a huge difference.) But for us, it makes a big difference. Plus, there are a lot of great free screensavers out there which may even be better than this one.

And why do you people not welcome all the negative comments ? This is a comments section right, and not a praise section. Comments mean honest advice that may help the developer make their website better. So comments like these are infact better than comments like "thanks" or "great".

And for all the people who say "hey, its free!" : Let me give you an example. You are a grown up. Someone comes to you and offers you a free tri-cycle, will you take it. I think not. But hey, it free. But you wouldn't take it because its totally useless. You may only take it because afterwards you can sell it for a few bucks, but thats not possible with these free software.

Epilogue: Dont take me wrong, I am not a GAOTD hater or something.I still love this site and the giveaways. Much software thats on my computer right now has come from this site. I will still visit this site daily and hope for new, better software. I just thought that I should give my honest advice to the GAOTD Team and hope that they stop these regular screensaver giveaways.

PS: Wow! Thats a long comment man. First time that I have given such a huge comment.

PPS: A question, How does giveaway pay for all these software ?

A screen saver be nice and light, not a big fancy 3D thing. I'm sure that when the screensaver would start, the screen would flash and change resolution, then you would hear your computer's fan rev up to max as it tries to keep up with the 3D stuff. Then you move the mouse to exit it, which would be 10 seconds of a black screen and resolution changes and then a few error messages.

Holy Kazoley! No wonder the world's in such a mess when there's such twisted thinking. I just can't believe all of the negative people on here. It's always " NOT ANOTHER SCREEN SAVER" or "NOT ANOTHER CONVERTER, BURNER, PHOTO EDITOR ETC. I think the whole purpose of GOTD is to provide us with different softwares So we can compare and evaluate them. If you don't like the one of today, then rate it fairly or just pass, but don't just complain because of the type of software it is. Sh!t it's FREE. There are 365 days in a year, GOTD can't very well find the very best of the most expensive new softwares to give to you free EVERY day. Some people act like GOTD OWES them this stuff or something. If you know of a better program, or a freebie that's as good...that kind of info is appreciated, but just complaining about whats offered is just a rude thing to do. JMHO

I have to say I am one of the people that really enjoys the screen savers given here. However, with that said, Astro Gemini really dropped the ball on this one!! BORING!!! This screen saver is just the flying colored lights going over and over around a fire. Whoopee, No offense Astro Gemini but this one is really terrible, music included.

THUMBS DOWN on this one. Better programing next time.

The fire did look good : )

Steve, just took another look at your site thoroughly, and you are a Muslim, comparing the two books together. (Not saying anything against the Muslim religion..I have studied every religion out there. But too bad you don't know who REALLY wrote the king james bible.) I don't know, I saw a few mistakes on your website no matter what religion it's in. But, heh, Jesus enjoyed a few common pleasures, and if it's cute (like a screensaver) it's just cute. No one is saying to 'worship' it.

@8 Steve, I have to agree with another comment that you are going against bible by using computer. Also, as one now who has been preaching and teaching bible, and ancient archeology for many, many years, and as someone who, in college years, did dabble in the occult, and as one now who has been preaching and teaching bible, and ancient archeology, I can say that having a screen saver with fantasy, such as faeries, gnomes, etc. is no more "sinful" as having a cross or crucifix up in your house, or pictures or statues of Jesus. Until you have studied a whole lot more, you should not put your religious opinions on this site. Nor should you judge,(also a sin as I understand it) anyone for a picture, company name, or whatever; and especially for their religion. (See, the occult, Satanism, Wicca are all established religions).

I am grateful for the work of GAOTD, overall! When it comes to screensavers, I have to side with those advocating that they [the screensavers] are a nuisance/waste of time and energy, or anything alike. To those who say "Do not object to it, it is FREE and you may or may not want to download it", I say "Yes, you are partially right, but there is an opportunity cost here, i.e. we could have been offered some other software, which at least provides some greater good (not to mention prospects for testing, evaluation, development, promotion or advertising) far too much greater than today's offer, which type [the screensaver] is becoming progressively obsolete.

If you have a CRT and actually need it (as to not burn your screen), then push the "ON/OFF" button and do save both your screen and the environment a bit. If you really enjoy sitting in front of the computer to just watch your screensaver work, it means that you have too much time on your hands and may want to consider whether there are better alternatives to getting enjoyment: of course, that is your own business, but a consideration has always been a path to progress!

I don't always download the screensavers each time GOTD has one, but this one looked rather neat. And it is. Installed easily, runs smoothly, and the graphic effects (following the fireflies, the mist in the background, the blinking yellow eyes in the shadows) were cool. Of course, now that I've seen it, I'll do what I always do: turn the screensaver off, and it'll sit there unused until I start jonesing for drive space again, then I'll probably uninstall it. ;)

Just two responses to comments previously left:

#8: "It is occultic in its explanation: Bible forbids that! No occultic game nor software will eneter my laptop."

Nothing "occultic" to see here, folks. A couple of trees with some cartoon faces in them, a few fireflies zipping around, and music to make it feel spooky. Don't think there's anything "forbidden" here. But if that kind of stuff bothers you, good choice in not downloading it.

#18 BTW, what surprises me is that the screensaver is available for free if u go to their homepage link provided above.

Ummm... no it's not. Don't know what site you're looking at, but the one I'M seeing has the full screensaver listed at $19.95, with just a free TRIAL download.

Yet another nifty download to clutter up my computer even further. Thanks GOTD! :) Always look forward to seeing what's offered here, even if I don't always download it.

First off, thank you to, Astro Gemini & GAOTD. team for letting us have this nice screensaver.
I am not sure how many people here are totally new to this site ? Myself, I have been coming here for about 2 years now. I always did find it's amazing to read comments such as indavidules who come to complain because they did not get so and so software.
Last time I looked, the software on this site is offered daily for free.
I never could figure out why or how people can complain even with todays giveaway of a "FREE SCREENSAVER" The key word is, "FREE"!!!! THe same ole, same ole, complaints NEVER seem to end whenever we have a FREE Screensaver.
All anyone like myself has to see is a day when a FREE screensaver is given away. I as well as anyone else that has been coming to this site for any amount of time can already know what type of complaints hit this board.
Trust me, the give away team knows far well what types of crybaby complaints come their way when they offer up a screensaver Lol. I believe even the give away team need a great laugh every now & then, and todays is that day.
Without even reading any comments here as of yet, I can count on the same people day after day for my daily laugh.
But an even greater laugh comes when we have a screensaver give away.
Your lucky I don't have a say as to what gets given away here daily as I would fix your wagon by given away a free screensaver a day for about a month until yous learn to shut your traps.
It totally amazes me as to just how friggin' ungrateful some of yous really are.
As I always tell people here, which by the way is very seldom as it just is not worth my time, but, break out your credit card, debit card, etc. No one here is holding you down to take the daily offering.
Just leave and never come back ! Oh yeah, no need for your useless babble banters either. Take it or leave it ya morons !! It's simple just like you. Clown...

I am very grateful this was offered today. I love the little screensavers but would never actually pay twenty bucks for them. They're adorable and cute but not worth the money, for me. I am tired of the ones I have, so this one came out a great time and offers something else to glance at while I'm doing other tasks beside my laptop.

The music is very appropriate, and the Manager uninstalled without a problem (I took the advice of others; what do I need a manager for?). I had no problems installing it, or turning it off (one click of the mouse). The only thing that was slower than my other screensavers is it took several SECONDS to load. Oh no! I may not be able to live with myself.

I hope the others are offered at some time. I'm sorry I missed the dwarf one. :)

This was a pretty lame screensaver, but it came with a screensaver manager which was supposed to cycle through ALL my screensavers. After having fun setting that up, I tested it out--or tried to. Every time it should have started a screensaver, it made several attempts to go online (Zone Alarm popups) before it would run. And if permission was denied, it wouldn't run at all. Don't know about anyone else, but I don't want my screensavers phoneing home all the time. I smell a rat.

I'm going to use this one on Halloween for sure. I get my Serene Screen to run on Vista with ATI card fine but I want different screensavers and not just one all the time.

Works fine on Vista.
Thanks GAOTD for your ongoing service. I've tried several offerings, and kept the ones I liked. Thanks also GAOTD for giving us a broad spectrum of software, INCLUDING Screen Savers, sometimes they're just fun to have.
Come on folks, if you haven't tried it please don't rate it. The ratings are for how it works, and what it does, and how well the software does it. Not everyone has known about GAOTD since the beginning and we all like additional choices.
If you are a TechnoGrinch and don't want anyone in the world to have a computer based left handed blivit, some of the rest of us just MIGHT like to try it. We're interested in how it works, NOT your opinion of metaphysics or left handedness.
Don't rate it if you haven't tried it.
