I couldn't get it to download at all...really bummed was hoping this would be the answer to my very slow old laptop and that it would figure out what was causing the issues on my 6 month old laptop...not sure that I want to spend money if I can't get a free version to download.

Marla, Please contact our engineers at likenewpcrepair@gmail.com I am fairly confident we can fix your issues. You may have to burn a usb from a healthy machine to get it to download as the virus/malware sometimes restricts downloading anything. Anyway our folks will work with you to get things working. Bob

This "product" has destroyed my laptop. It took all night to download whatever it was downloading. This morning it told me to reboot. A black bar (loading files) ran across the bottom of the screen before the Lenovo One key recovery screen came up. The back up this product says it was creating did not exist. The only option was to was do an initial set up restore and lose everything on my laptop.

I'm thoroughly disgusted that this has been allowed to happen on a respected website.

Henrys Cat, Hi Henry, we have had over 10K downloads and run this trial. I am sorry you had an issue, to be fair this is the only issue reported not related to downloads. We would very much like to have one of our engineers contact you to see what happened. We have special code in the product due to Lenovo's one drive repair stuff. They put in special recovery software and we have thoroughly tested our interaction with it. It is only on the newest laptops so we would like to discuss with you. Please email us at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com We would very much appreciate your help on this one. Also, anyone else experiencing any issues please email us as we can recover so you dont have to go through the pain of factory resetting your computer. We apologize for that... Bob

The program did download yesterday, but it failed to work. It started up, and after a few minutes it produced a message that there was a boot issue (which was why I tried your program). I selected "yes" to run a "fix." After awhile, the screen went black, with a cursor flashing in the upper left corner. Nothing more happened. I retried it three more times, and each time it stalled out during the "fix boot" step, and did nothing thereafter. Too bad, I had hope for this program.

Reply   |   Comment by i h schwartz  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

i h schwartz, Just Curious how long did you wait when the cursor came up in the corner before you stopped it? Also wondering if the green light on the computer stopped lighting up or blinking ?
Why I'm asking is one thing with this program is it is hard to tell if it's doing anything or not that was the only thing I had that I didn't like about. When I started it doing something I just walked away from the computer and let it go because if I kept checking it I wouldn't think it was doing anything even making usb's took quite some time.
So just wondering if it was doing something while in that mode or not it's an odd program to run but for me it did everything it said it would just seemed to take a lot of time especially when I had it fix my slow and old computer I would say several hours. So before giving up on it check to see if the green light or whatever color your HDD working light is noton if it is I would just let it go.
Hope things work out for you!

Bob Wing, CEO
Thanks for responding to all emails and questions. I was able to download the file, and created a bootable USB, before I received your last response. I left a detailed message here on GOTD, but it appears the mods deleted it!
Will be reporting back with results when I'm finished. Thanks from all of us I'm sure, for staying in contact during all of this.

As promised they sent an email with a fresh link.
I downloaded and ran the program (under a minute to download)
I chose the third option (create bootable CD).
It downloaded that reasonably quickly.
When it has done that, it then asks to burn the CD.
That took quite a few minutes, but it completed the burn OK
I tested it in my W7 Pro 32bit PC, and it booted fine.
I have a neighbor that ruined his W7 Pro PC by interrupting the MS update.
It has failed every other attempt to fix it.
I will definitely give this CD a try when the neighbor returns

So far, so good,
Rob
PS If you have trouble during the burn, there appears to be a two part process 'for the burn' -
- First it downloads the ISO
- Then it asks you if it can burn it
If that 2nd part flounders, you will find the ISO in C:\PcPinPoint\
You could use the free imgburn to burn the ISO to CD

This is the same post I posted above in the other comment box and I had made comments in both places so I need to comment in both again. Just a heads up for any of you that were upset yesterday with the giveaway of likenewpc please take time to read this as this program really does work and and works fantastic. But make sure you read ALL the instructions so that it will work right.
Okay yesterday this was a disaster because of some technical issues the site was having and the overload of people trying to get this all at once and like most people I gave this a complete thumbs down and a big waste of time.
But the company and the rep for them a guy named Bob said that they would send us all links after the issues were fixed even after the GOTD was over and would make sure we all had a chance to try it.
I personally had no faith in it as I had wasted a ton of time trying to work with the program.
But true to his word Bob sent a link and explained they had server and technical issues and asked to give the software a fair shake and after come back here and give another review.
So I got the program working on my older PC running win 10 and it was slow and every boot up I got a message that a DLL file was missing and a few more hiccups before it finished booting.
It worked just not very fast so I set LikeNEWPC up to run on it over night and on my laptop I had it make a usb for computers that worked but needed repairing. Figuring come morning it would be the same thing nothing.
But to my surprise my older computer had finished and I reconnected all the other stuff back up to it because the instructions given said if it's a wireless key board and mouse it had to be disconnected as did all other stuff like my camera unhooked for this program to do what it said it would.
Well to my surprise boot up happened and quite fast and no DLL file missing came up.
I tried it on the internet and it worked great to me it was like a new machine but my wife usually uses that and I use my laptop. So I asked her to give it a try and give me feedback on how it run and if she noticed any differences.
As soon as she clicked on the chrome browser button she was surprised because she said that usually take time just to load the browser. As she surfed the net and tried things as she usually did when she surfed she said that as far as she is concerned it was running 5 to 6 times faster than it had been.
So I checked my other computer and it had made the usb repair stick as it said it would and I have made 2 other usb sticks one for older machines and one for newer plus a boot dick for computers that won't boot up. Now I haven't got to try those but if they are anything like the rest of this program says it is I believe them and am totally impressed with this program.
I take back all my bad reviews I gave this yesterday and give my apologies to GOTD and the makers of this program for what I said because I was wrong. Anyone having problems with their computer running slow or even just an older machine that hasn't had much maintenance done to it I implore you to try this program you won't be sorry.
You will think your old machine is like it was back when you first got it. This program does what it says it will and more !!!
If GOTD gave more of these programs that really do what they say they will they would have a lot more happy customers but hey it's not their fault they are just the middlemen.
I also want to thank Bob for sending me the link as he said he would and standing by his product ! I apologize big time to you Bob !!

I could now download and start the program. Tried twice to burn to CD. After a while: failed twice. Looking deeper into this:
I have found 2 ISO-files on my hard disk now (likenewpc.iso and likenewpc_x64.iso, different byte-size). It seems, LikeNEWPC could not burn them to CD !? How do I know: I COULD burn both ISOs to CD with PowerISO. AND: I could start LikeNEWPC from there.
However: On Vista 32-bit none of them would succeed. After a while of working??? on Vista, program stopped telling me "This looks like a non-standard Windows installation, we have to shut down".
Well ... true :-), two hard disks - dual boot - with windows on it...
But, how should I know without manual, help function or ANYTHING that tells me before?
After 25 years of developping software myself, I am afraid this program is not yet fit for the market.
BTW: I have NOT yet tried this on my main work PC - dualboot :-) - with Win7 and Win10. Too dangerous.

[ Emil schuldenhauer ], on the one hand, we may not know if a dead computer is dual boot, or even which operating system.

On the other hand, good that it backed off and did nothing.

Yes, when presented here to folks who otherwise did not seek it out, who did not start at the vendor's web page, it makes sense to have the special GOTD version of their Setup program give a show-and-tell tutorial before engaging the setup.

Thrown in unawares at the deep end is painful ( especially for the vendor, apparently )!

Emil schuldenhauer,
I like to use 'KISS' and keep the boot as simple as possible.
You can purchase a PCI card (uses a slot but has no connections to the motherboard).
It has 4 buttons. You connect a Sata power cable into it, and it has 4 Sata cables out of it (inside the case), which you connect to your internal Sata drives.
When the PC is powered off you depress any one of the buttons, and then turn on the PC
This is not the one I use, but it is similar -

Emil schuldenhauer, Sorry we do not handle dual boot at this time. The reason is we perform robust boot repairs for disabled systems. As it could create many issues we decided to attack that issue with version 3. The program has been out for a year now and we have had very few issues. Remember, we are taking on the worst of the worst here and attempting to fix them. Very few folks had hiccups during this test. Over 10k downloads and maybe 4 or 5 real issues. All of which are listed here in the Forum. Remember, this product was designed for those who dont have the experience to attempt complex repairs. Basically we are trying to help folks help themselves. Bob

Martin Glover ], similar crashes with the GOTD Setup.exe program happened to me, too.

We can use the original free version of LikeNewPC.exe from the vedor's http://www.pcpinpoint.com/download.html website.

The only difference is the original version nags for a voluntary donation of $20 if it actually fixes a computer, but otherwise works reliably, and is equally free all the way.

I am not sure what happened, but after an hour of running, is says it need to reboot, it did and now I have a vegetable. it gives me a blue screen with an scan code from Microsoft to scan and the scan says what were doing? and was this helpful. there was no additional codes given.
I must now do a complete format and reload. of my windows 10. which I probably will not get back because of the free upgrade from windows 7. ( by the way the backup failed.) because it cant back to the disk.
I wanted to try this program for purchase because I do have older machines with problems and I used that machine for a test. I guess I will read all of the comments before I try another program from giveaway again.
My first problem after 8 years of programs from the site.

[ norka 3195 ], consider it a GIFT to get you back to good old reliable Windows 7.

;-)

By the way, the vendor claims your situations never happens.

Yeah, right.

My take is that LikeNewPC with it's hours of prep and days of rapiar PROVES that quick neat and clean backup cloning, reformatting, reinstalling, and restoring data is the best solution ... after, what, 2 hours max of troubleshooting that goes nowhere, kill it and move on?

We've got to start getting efficient, folks, and spare backup hard drives are CHEAP, cheaper than days of our wasted time.

Peter Blaise, LikeNEWPC was designed for folks that are not computer literate to help them fix complex PC problems. As you can see after 10K or more downloads we only had 4 or 5 issues. To be fair we think thats fairly good for the extent of repairs we are performing. In addition, anyone experiencing problems please email us at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com and we can recover for you. Do NOT re-image.... we can get you back quickly. So please contact us.

norka 3195, Please contact us and we can recover this machine. In addition, we would like to have an engineer talk with you so we can see configuration, what happened etc. Out of thousands of runs we have had very few problems. It only takes a couple minutes for us to fix so please email pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com Bob

Peter Blaise, Im sorry but you state the vendor claims the situation never happens. Please elaborate as we wish to remove any marketing that is not valid. Was it on the website? Which problem are you addressing specifically? As we are fixing so many different things anything is possible. Our challenge as engineers is to knock them down when recognized. From this trial out of 10K we have seen 4 or 5 folks that had issues. I would say our problem percentages were better than Norton, McAfee or Webroot. This level of repair does come with its complexity and although rare, problems can occur. Thats why we market the product as Fixing Disabled, Badly Infected and Slow Windows computers. Bob Wing, CEO

Have a scheme already in place to have backup-data and reinstall-licensed-software resources on hand on demand.

Worst give away ever. Product edits your boot.ini which if I new that I would never have touched the product. There is no benefit all all to installing this product even to test. If you have a machine that's running slow just use CCleaner and use Malwarebytes.
It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so danagerous.

Reply   |   Comment by Carl  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Carl, Yes we do reboot several times to remove threats etc. Remember the product was designed for Novices and those that are not computer literate to be able to fix Disabled, Badly Infected and Slow computers. Thus saving them from the landfills and stopping folks from having to buy new computers. Where CCleaner and Malwarebytes are good products they only address one of the 5 areas our product fixes. We fix boot, missing files, corrupt windows files, windows settings, hard disk issues and much more. Plus bot ccleaner and Malwarebytes can be disabled by aggressive threats and not run at all. For instance, we run a process killer and then run 4 different scanners to remove threats. Not just one...... When our product is finished it has removed more bugs than any other on the market today. So please...... run it on a badly infected machine and let us prove to you our real worth. Rebooting a machine and modifying the boot is done by most all of the virus protection guys..... why would it be a problem for us to reboot? Regards, Bob Wing, CEO

Reply   |   Comment by Bob Wing, CEO  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Bob Wing, CEO,

Honestly I don't know where to begin as a CEO of a virus and software company how could you confuse rebooting with editing the boot.ini? Honestly I am shocked that you didn't address what I said rather then concentrate on the word boot. Boot.ini and rebooting are two entirely different things.

Reply   |   Comment by carl  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

carl, I am sorry I guess I did not understand your question or comment. I was attempting to point out that our product was designed for novices and is for disabled, badly infected and slow windows computers that are being discarded because folks dont know how to fix them and are not likely to run ccleaner or malwarebytes. The machines we work best on are so messed up the threats have disabled the malwarebytes exe and you cant run it anyway. I think if you have a computer set aside that you were going to toss would be a great test for us. Blindly saying we are crap without attempting to understand the full complexity and market niche really is not a fair assessment. Please give us a shot on a really messed up computer. You may be presently surprised. Bob

Reply   |   Comment by Bob Wing, CEO  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Bob Wing, CEO,

Sorry Bob, I couldn't disagree more. I never said your product was crap. I said it was dangerous and explained why. If someone installed the product which I did and did not know how to edit the boot.ini or fix the issue I encountered their machine would be unusable. If I could only added the screenshots in the forum to then you would see what happened. The comments left by Bill indicate the same behavior that I saw and was replicated as well.

Reply   |   Comment by Carl  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Carl, I am sorry I think we are talking apples and oranges. Let me try a different approach. This product was designed for novices to be able to fix disabled computers and recover pictures and files. I believe the only time we edit the boot.ini is if we are having boot issues. In addition, we backup this file before anything is performed and restore it after we have completed repairs. As I said we are patenting this process so I cannot get into details but next month you can see the filing and see what and why we are doing it. In addition, as you can tell with 10K plus downloads we have very few issues. Maybe 3 boot related on machines that started really sick to begin with. Also, anything we do we can fix 100% so your machine is NEVER unusable. In the year we have been offering LikeNEWPC we have NEVER had a single machine we could not repair if our product caused any hiccups. LikeNEWPC is not like the rest. We understand the damage such extensive repair and recovery can cause and we are on top of it. I would say in the near future you may see something from us that fixes any hiccups automatically in our tech support tools. I personally have patents in hard disks and software and our VP created HP's RID (remote interactive diagnostics) and other remote repair software. As I said we are coming from this from a different approach. We believe our product is the only one on the market today that can fix ALL problems not defective hardware related. Bob

bill, Yes during step one we boot in our own environment. This is so folks with really badly infected or non booting computers can fix the problems or at least recover their data. Once it goes into step two it removes that boot path. If you stopped before the product ran you can remove it by simply deleting the pcpinpoint folders in the c drive and then going to msconfig, boot tab, and then remove likenewpc from boot. Please contact us though if you have any issues as we can fix right away. You can contact an engineer at likenewpcrepair@gmail.com Bob

Email Link not working in IE11, also applies to other GOTD apps. Link works ok in Firefox.
Downloaded and run the software, but as time was late opted to 'Exit and run later'. The next day, the only link available to do with the program was a shortcut on the Desktop. Clicking this, attempted to download the software again. It told me I had already downloaded it, but gave no option to resume from the download, only to download it again. To me the biggest negative is the lack of communication what the program is actually doing. I selected 'Run with no backup' and after it created a Restore Point, I got an endless downloading green bar that gets to the end then starts again and then again and then again. The whole point of a progress bar is to gauge just how far through the process it is. After 25 mins of it doing this, and the Start button still greyed out, I gave up and removed to the software.
The developers of this product may well have the knowledge and skills to produce what maybe a very good program, but need to develop their Customer Interface skills so we know exactly what is happening and why.

LINK IS WORKING! Downloading to USB while writing this. The targeted drive or folder is a system image. USB must be formatted first. I used Rufus. I also backed up the link to the LikeNEWPC download that I used, on another USB storage stick, with notes and pictures for future use during our give away time. If using you're bootable USB, be sure to switch your BIOS to Start from USB, instead of your HDD.

Thank you Bob Wing, CEO, for answering my emails from last night.

I appreciate there have been download problems with the GOTD offer. However, I encountered numerous resets of the downloads. Sometimes I had to resort to using the "setup" file again, and this would re-download everything. Perhaps, for such a large download, it would be an idea for the future to have your software check for what's there already and build in a "resume download" function.

Reply   |   Comment by RK  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

[ RK ], this is EXACTLY what I experienced trying to run the setup from the original web site ( the GOTD version NEVER worked at all ) -- it NEVER knew how much data it had already downloaded, and restarted from scratch after each lockup / timeout / crash.

Now ( the next day after NOT working at all during the giveaway ) the vendor's web site is working and responsive, and the ISO files ( 301 to 607 MB ) download quickly with no interruption.

GOTD marathons can stress a vendor's web site, so hopefully, PCPinpoint / LikeNewPC has taken advantage of this experience and will be all the better for it.

Peter Blaise, This is our second offering on GOTD. First one we had no problem. What we believed happened was that at 12 PM literally 1200 folks hit the server at once and choked it for the day. When the ISP went in to fix the server they essentially took it down. We are switching ISP but honestly I dont think anyone but a large retailer could expect that many simultaneous queries. Good news is that our marketing hit a nerve..... bad news is you are right, we need to evaluate how to manage extraordinary numbers. Bob

Dear Bob Wing, CEO of PCPinpoint Technologies, Inc.,

I have never heard of LikeNEWPC before - but using a working PC, I had a look at your website and it sounds like a very good service to me (and very useful too!).

Question #1: is payment of $20 in my local currency or always in USD or whatever the currency that your company uses?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Question #2: Problem on Notebook #1

I have one Windows Vista SP2 (32bit) Notebook that has a working hard drive, but no matter what I have attempted to do to fix the problem it always goes to a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

Is a BSOD the sort of thing your companies LikeNEWPC Service can fix?

During the boot procedure I have tried to use the key to go into "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" but no matter what I try I always get a "Blue Screen of Death" with the BAD_POOL_HEADER and the following

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x90BBAAE8, 0x90BBABF8, 0x0A220220)

Question #3: Problem on Notebook #2

To make matters even worse, the notebook that I'm currently using to type this message with (another Windows Vista SP2 (32bit) Notebook), has (I Think) some sort of Virus corruption because I cannot upgrade Java 8 update 31 beyond this build as well as some other programs.

If I download the full upgrade direct from the Sun JAVA site I cannot apply it and get a message that says: "Software not valid Win32 application"

And if i use a service like http://ninite.com/ to the the update automatically I experience the same problem

I have checked the download on other working PC's and its OK and with some other downloads I was able to test/check those files CRC hash details

NOT all executables bring up this "not valid Win32 application" error window

J S,

BAD_POOL_HEADER is either RAM or a bad HD. I doubt this could be fixed. User you systems own diagnostics to determine the issue.

FINALLY at 2 a.m. the next day, the vendor's servers seem to be opening up to download requests ( for me, from the Washington DC US area ) for the ISO for this tool, though they are BIG and take a long time ( a day or more to go on my ~85 Mbps Internet, but at least it appears not to be self-interrupting and killing the lengthy download attempts anymore -- Torrent alternative, anyone? ).

The supposedly nag-free GOTD Setup.exe still fails for some folks though ( me and a few others have reported ), so we can use the LikeNewPcSetup.exe from the vendor's web site http://www.pcpinpoint.com/download.html which asks for a voluntary donation of $20 if it fixes a PC.

At least this offering brought PCPinpoint.com back to our attention, even if it's almost impossible to get, install, build, use, AND review the software in the ONE day of the giveaway.

Instead, we chatted about bottlenecks and exe failures -- no one successfully used the software and reported in.

Oh well.

Peter Blaise, Hi again Peter, Nope - The issue is still here this morning. As I stated before we have had this volume of traffic many times so its not a bottle neck thing. As a matter of fact this is our second time on GOTD. First time had no hiccups. The ISP is still down today. They are a very famous site so IDK if any other group is affected or just us. Our engineers worked till 2AM last night and are on it already again this morning. Once it is fixed we will send you all that emailed us a link to run anytime in the future for free. We are sorry for the inconvenience but rest assured the lack of ability to download the software is in no way a reflection on how it works. It is well tested and validated for volume. Thank you all for your patience, Regards - Bob Wing, CEO

Unreal!!!! First what I thought was a portable program in its folder, turned out to be just another link, with the 3 options. As I didn't get an answer to my question from likenewpcrepairs@gmail.com, I was too unsure what would happen to my PC to use this right away. I was waiting for an answer before I started.
So I decided to create A bootable USB stick instead. The resulting 2nd download of the program is stuck in some kind of endless loop, downloading continuously and producing nothing. Had all Antivirus programs turned off, but nothing. The downloading would not stop, and the cancel/stop was grayed out. And the program would not close. It locked up my PC. I used Task Manager Pro, to stop the program finally, and even that was difficult. So I have no program tonight. Its like something almost every night here lately. Now I don't feel quite as confident at all about using the program. Going back to the website to closely read every word. This Win 7 is barely just hanging on. Don't want to loose the little bit of use I already have.

rgodes, We had a hardware issue at the ISP and no one was able to download. Everything you have mentioned was related to the program not being able to receive the ISO file. Please understand this is our second time as an offering on GOTD. First time we had zero issues. This issue was totally out of GOTD and our control. If you email us we will provide you a link so that you may try again today at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com Sorry for your inconvenience but please try the program. It works! [ rgodes ], Windows 7 works fine, especially with an occasional reload, and Dell, at least, STILL today sells NEW PCs with Windows 7 Pro, so Windows 7 is going to be around for a long time.

FORGET the part that say's works on "XP and up"..........did the part about putting on a USB Thumb.......then several minutes later it "pops up" MUST BE FORMATTED ON A VISTA or later version.........
If ya don't have the later MS screw-up programs, how the heck are ya gonna do the format bit?
When the 100 Million plus users around the world quit XP then I might, or more likely switch to Apple...
Meanwhile XP and the hundred or so programs I have on it will do everything I ever want.....and then some.
Down side was that the Computer I wanted to "check" has Win 7.......time to quick the game I guess - hours later....darn......

As we have no way of knowing which OS is on the bad machine you are taking the USB to we pop up that warning. We will look at it and see what we can do to message differently. Thank you for pointing this out. As for the download issue it was related to an ISP hardware issue and is not at all related to the product. Now I got another question - finally got it on a USB - BUT if I want to use it on a badly infected spare computer, IF i can't boot it up, how the heck can I use it if it has to be able to "get on the net" to "get to the Cloud? Am I missing some clue?

Tried all day to create the USB drive. It didn't work. Tried six times. It takes forever and then issues a message saying try again after disabling security software and checking the internet connection. With a solid broadband connection and everything disabled, it did not work. Trying to use it was a waste of a large part of the day.

Installed quickly and easily. Moved file and folder to my No Install Programs File. Win7-64.

Bob, Hi,
If I choose 'Run now, I'm on the infected PC', will the program allow me to be able to create a bootable USB later, in case I need it in a few months? When using from 'Run Now', can it be run in safe mode with or without networking? I assume we have access for one year, but didn't see it stated anywhere. Its going to be hard to judge this program and leave comments for the GOTD group members when there is the 5 -12 hr scan. This give away should run for 2 days. But I will leave my results tomorrow anyway, in case someone checks back, as I often do.

The built tool eventually becomes outdated as new infections arise, so build a new tool on demand when needed, from any PC.

I am not impressed with this software. I installed to a thumb drive, and moved it to a perfectly good vista operating system. I waited app 30 minutes to get the start to scan button. I never got that far. I stopped the program with alt control delete Seemed very unresponsive and I immediately stopped the program. I cant judge this program but I am a computer tech and my purpose was to test it, I was somewhat skeptical and stopped the action. It may be a excellent software, but I am somewhat cautious. I down loaded this to my main computer which is op system 10
14 gigs ram. 2 ter byts hard drive then moved the thumb drive to the Vista system comp which was working well. It seemed to stall there. I am awaiting a software that can perform these basic functions. It may work , but I am not convinced at this time . The download, and the setup worked well. The installation was worked well. I hope the persons who use this software is well pleased and successful . But I am somewhat cautious. My best to you, My friends

[ William Carter ], I wonder if any delay or failure was PCPinpoint LikeNewPC having an Internet server problem, COMBINED with their program being unable to know that and give appropriate information on screen to say

"home base server is not responding,
click to enter minimum repair mode,
or exit,
and try again after calling 1-720-887-4536
to confirm server status".

I presume it already can report on screen if it cannot connect to the web at all ( no service, no cable, no network card ).

@Bob Wing, CEO,

At the start of executing the GOTD setup, I get the message titled "LikeNewPC" with message "Check your Internet connection and try again ..." I am accustomed to seeing similar messages due to using WinPrivacy, so I checked and saw that WinPrivacy was indeed blocking it. After "Allowing by Signature" the program continued for a while, then had a second message titled "LikeNewPC (FNF)" with message "Check your Internet connection and try turning off Web/Virus/Firewall protection temporarily ... Would you like to try again? Note: Selecting No will shutdown your computer."

This time WinPrivacy was not blocking the process. My computer was just booted up before starting the process, and NO I did not want some other program to shut the PC down, so I used Task Manager to kill the download program. To me that is a serious flaw in the design of this process. At this point, all that is happening is downloading of components that would be used to create a rescue DVD. Why can't the process be ended gracefully without shutting down the computer?

Gave it three shots at working. Hours performing a "15-??? minute" download, no antivirus or antimalware blocking. Two processes run as pcp_dlfromurl.exe in background with a third as friendly screen showing. Hours downloading, attempting to with negligible impact on disk space. Killed gingerbread from task mgr as no normal closings appeared or functioned leaving two dlfroms running. An hour later still zilch. Clobbering and cleaning

The best cure for a slow, infected, or damaged OS installation is a hard drive format and complete re-install of the OS itself. After that, use a good disk imaging package to back up your OS drive after you re-install all the software you will use. I personally like and use Clonezilla.

FYI, the download of the specific repair tool is still failing with network error in Washington DC US area on 2016-12-17 at 7:19 p.m., all I've gotten of the Windows 10 ISO is 12% of 593 MB, and I've been retrying since the wee hours of the initial offering this morning, more than 12 hours so far.

The GOTD Setup.exe program ( that should call for the file above ) also fails to operate, so I am trying the LikeNewPCSetup.exe program from http://www.pcpinpoint.com/download.html instead -- both are free, the GOTD version promises no nag screen, but crashes for me, so I'll take the nag screen ... IF I can get ANYTHING to work, that is.

I sent an email to the vendor Bob Wing, CEO at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com to be put in the queue for a replacement offering when the web delivery system gets back up to speed.

I hope it is different from the GOTD Setup.com program that crashes for me ( and others ).

Patience is also a PC repair tool.

Okay so 2 hours ago I had asked a question which was promptly answered and solved that problem.
Now I chose to create a bootable usb for dead or computers that won't start and hit start and it's been running for the last 2 hours building this bootable usb.
No where on the usb does it show that any info is being put there at all and usually any program you start to put on a usb shows something but not this program.
So my question is have I just wasted the last 2 hours trying to install a program that doesn't exist? There is no way it should take 2 hours to begin with if it was repair a computer I would say sure it could take over 2 hours but not this.
So could Bob or someone from the company respond to my question as to how long it should take to put the program on a usb to fix a broken computer? I had high hope for this program but think it's a dud. I'm on a new laptop using win 10

Peter, It will only take 5 minutes for a normal download. As stated many times we are having issue with ISP hardware. Please email us at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com and we will provide you a link when issues are resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience, it is not affecting all but if you are experiencing problems with download, CD/USB creation etc. it is related to the internet issue. Please bare with us.... our engineers have been working with the provider all afternoon. Bob

Win 7 64 bit. I've turned off windows firewall and turned off AVG and still get a message asking to turn off Web/virus/Firewall. The only thing left to turn off is the computer.

[ Allen Shoudy ], it SHOULD do more, they say that their servers were down, so, email pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com mentioning this GOTD day-of-dysfunction for a link to a replacement setup program free to use whenever beyond the day of the giveaway, and try again.

And let us know how it goes -- please report back HERE to share with your GOTD fellows, okay?

Must one run it in order to use it as a giveaway today?
My system is fine right now ,and I would like this as a sort of insurance if I need to run it in the future.

given the problems we encounter even with downloading I would recommend to everyone trying out this piece of software to make a reliable backup of your system with AOMEI/Paragon/Acronis ... backupper BEFORE you even intend to try it out.

Emil schuldenhauer, What you are seeing is an issue with our ISP. It does not affect all folks and is related to ISP hardware. Please email us and we will send you the free link once issue is resolved. Two components here, Internet (which is the problem, and software which is not) We provide backup even when the programs you mentioned cannot be run. Check into our website a littler closer. We do 5 times more repair than conventional software packages. We can retrieve your data off disabled computers even when the others cant. Email us at pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com to receive the link once issue is fixed. Bob Wing, CEO

It immediately pops up a window which says "Non Standard Windows Installation", "C:\Windows" not found. My Windows installation is a completely standard installation, just in a C:\WINNT directory, as my XP was upgraded from an NT installation. The software should look in the registry for the windows root instead of making the assumption that Windows is installed in the most common location. With this type of poor programming, I don't think this software should be trusted to "fix" anything.

RJ, Sorry you are seeing that.... We have had thousands of computers ran without incident. Your problem has never been seen. As we do such extensive repairs occasionally we see obscure things. Please email our engineering team at likenewpcrepair so that we can evaluate this anomaly. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Also so you know today alone we have had almost 10,000 folks download and run the software. This thread is the only issues found and most of them are due to an ISP hardware issue. So basically you are 5 of 10,000 so its really is a great problem percentage when taken in perspective. Your help will take that number once we track down this. Thank you... Bob Wing, CEO

Bob Wing, CEO, Oh.... also I forgot. If you have multiple OS or multiple boot drives or if you are trying to run from a virtual machine it will pop that message. We warn folks that this is for stand alone end user PC's during the download. It may be that is what your seeing? Bob

[ RJ ] Make an empty C:\Windows directory and try again, let us know how it goes.

Peter Blaise,
After making an empty C:\Windows directory, the application came up. Choosing the CD/USB option, it acted like it was downloading for a while, then popped up a window saying it did not have an Internet connection, even after disabling the Windows firewall (as indicated in many other comments here). If I have time, I'll try it on my Windows 10 machine.

[ RJ ], I'm glad that lying to the program by creating an empty C:\Windows directory was a good workaround to let you BUILD repair CDs or USBs to use elsewhere ( NOT on dual-boot computer, like Murphy's law, the LikeNewPC program, given TWO operating systems to look at, has no idea which one to repair -- hard drives are cheap, can you make dual boot via CMOS boot order with TWO drives instead? ).

Yet, after all of your trying, you couldn't use it on the giveaway day anyway because their servers were down, so NOW email pcpinpointtechnologies@gmail.com mentioning this GOTD day-of-dysfunction for a link to a replacement setup program free to use whenever beyond the day of the giveaway, and try it later.

And let us know how it goes when you DO use it -- please report back HERE to share with your GOTD fellows, okay?
