I find this program to be 100% lacking in what makes a program a great program for one it searches the regitry for known programs and their product keys there is a lot of keys it doesnt even detect from what I could see there was no way to manually enter any product keys etc and that would have made this a great program if they had added that functionality.

It installed an ran just fine on my windows xp machine activation was not a problem and the user interface was simple and easy to use im pretty sure george washington would have been able to figure this program out.

Easily downloaded and installed. Activated without a problem. Ran the program but unfortuneately it only managed to collect about 30% of the program registation keys installed on my Vista operating system.
Probably good for a basic computer user.

Comments #18 and #82 say that I can run the software from a portable drive.

How do I install this on a USB drive? Can I just copy the "Recover Keys" directory to my drive?

Thank you for your help.

Why does it need internet access each time this is run. Does it upload our keys to it's own servers so that our keys can be sold on the black market? Thank goodness I denied access to the internet with my Firewall when I ran the program the second time. The first time I ran it, I allowed it access and it supposedly updated itself. But I didn't do a scan yet. Be Careful Everyone!

I've installed hundreds of utilities and games from this site and the only keys that Recover Keys found from all of these downloads was itself and the usual Microsoft keys, etc. No other key from GGOTD or GOTD key was found. This program has some serious flaws. Thumbs Down from me.

Phaedron, #110:

So instead of getting a free commercial program, it is better to get something that is buggy with no support (audacity is buggy, I have discovered many times)? And you think it is even better to need some external program to make THAT program work (mp3 plug)? You must be batty!

There should be an I.Q. test to post here.

I think even the software developers appreciate the comments by "moroons", as you call them. These "moroons" are the actual people - a sample of the market that the developers need to face. These comments shape the understanding of the developers about market expectation. Maybe they can add or remove a feature, or focus development on something else.

After all, we are not professional beta testers - we're mostly real users (at least at GAOTD). I think this is a very good place for developers to test their market and get unbiased reviews from real users, even on their pricing. There's always a market for something if the price is right, no matter how weak the product is.

So, please show some respect. If you don't think the comments are useful, vote a no. Don't come labeling people "morons". Not all of us here are children...

BTW, I think non-morons don't spell it "moroons".

#127

It's not because people are lazy... that spreadsheet might have been destroyed along with the PC and backups - natural disasters can happen.. or the email account (as I've suggested) is deleted or out-of-service. You can contact the shareware companies for new keys but you may have more trouble trying to get keys again from Microsoft or Adobe - which is why I think that's the focus of the software. So, when all else fail, maybe this is your last hope.

To the developers, I have a suggestion after reading comment #52. Why not add a feature that scans the add/remove (uninstaller) entries in the registry and match to the found keys. Keep it in the same list output. That way, users can add the keys for those that are installed but not found. It will be very helpful even though it's simple to implement.

Disappointing on 2 counts: 1) it doesn't find all the titles that it advertises, even though it finds more than several other programs I've tried. 2) It offers remote scanning, via IP, but it has terrible functionality - SIW will actually scan some info off computers on my network (shared with neighbors) that are all running Windows' software firewall, whereas this program will not even give me a notice as to why it's failing its attempts, nor will it even ask for a password, nor will it pop up a dialog asking for it to be turned off. I've got several of my own computers on my network, and it wouldn't even scan the one my wife uses, which is basically wide open (she uses it for surfing, and little else, and it makes it easier for me to access it via the network). So... in the end, this program is of very little use to me, and certainly not worth $20.

To the programmers: 1) don't advertise anything it can't actually do EVERY time. This only pisses users off. If it occasionally succeeded in finding ones not on your advertised list, then the users would be pleasantly surprised instead.
2) Rework the network functions - make it actually work. Add a "search" feature, so that we don't have to manually enter it in (for those of us who don't assign static IPs on every computer).
3) If you're going to charge money for it, my advice is that you'd better do your own comparisons with freeware programs FIRST. And, if it fails to find considerably more than the freeware programs, then consider it incomplete. I point this out, because your potential customers have likely already tried all the free ones by the time they get to your software, and taking their good money for a program that, in the end, gives them nothing more than they had for free, well... it's a sure way to ensure they won't buy anything from you again, and, in this age, will also ensure horrid reviews in their blogs. Even offering it here, for free, has hurt your reputation, since we're now leery of your company for ONE "small" detail: you've lied to us in your advertisement. I'm willing to venture that, with the hundreds of downloads here, no more than a few trusting (or forgetful) fools will EVER consider spending any amount of money on future versions of this software title, simply because you've lost our trust.
So, programmers, there's some some solid business advice. Take it or leave it.
And, visitors, I give this app a 2.5 out of 10 (it does work on a local machine, just not to the extent that they advertise); and i give the company a 1 out of 10 for the lapse of honesty in advertising.

#98 states: 'Wow, lots of moroons out in full force today.Love this comment
“A fairly good program, but did not find all programs as advertised.”
Where does it say it finds ALL programs?"

Before calling people morons you might want to read the entire comment. It stated the program did not find the programs their own website said it would. not every program on the machine. This held true for both of my computers. Any program that does not do what it clearly states it does is not worth money - though it does make for good freeware.

Installed easily. Serial number inside the readme.txt file and activation code are the same so activation went very smoothly. Might be able to re-activate this program after a PC crash.

You must run the key finder AFTER activation for it to find and provide all the key codes. A demo run only shows a partial code in the list. Be sure to scan any external backup drives, too. I saved the key list to my external drive as both an html and csv file.

The free Belarc Advisor seems to do a much better job of finding some keys, but this program can be useful in its own way. Thanks GAOTD!

Very useful to retrieve keys from the computer for a hard copy on one sheet of paper to put in a notebook, rather than keeping or having to dig through loads of papers to find a specific one. Great utility! Thanks.

Installed easily and registered by copying code from readme file. For those that didn't find the RecoverKeys code during the search, did you register before running the program, or did you leave the box checked to run the program at the end of installation. If you did the latter, then you would not return the RecoverKeys code because you didn't enter it yet!
The program searched quickly and found about 14 keys. Useful, but not earth shattering. Thank you GAOTD and RecoverKeys!

Very Good software from Recover Keys...

It has simple and easy to use Interface. Its works perfectly to my system... I don't have too much software in my system. Not even Microsoft Word and Excel, I just boot up my system so not having that much software in my PC. and I lost all my previous downloaded Giveaways... So Sad..

Anyways it works great. It recovered the keys for my operating system Windows XP and also recover the keys for Internet Explorer, Windows Defender and Recover Keys. That's it...I'm wondering, the software not able to retrieve the keys of games that I've in my PC!!! I have lots of games in my PC & many of them need keys to install. Let's see how it will work when I install other softwares.

As of now I was keeping all the important keys in Windows Marketplace's Online Account b'coz if your computer system down and crash, at that time at least you can retrieve the keys via online so right now I'm putting the keys both ways. Online and in Recover Key software also.

Over all the software is Okay.

Thanks GAD for giving this software...

Keep up the good work.

@88, gizmogeek: After the 24-hour offering window, registration codes are worthless. Even when you install a program in time, if your PC crashes and you want to reinstall, no can do, until the next time GOTD offers the program or something similar. That's the way this place works, and it's a good (though sometimes frustrating) system. So wait for the next time it shows, or read the comments for user-recommended alternatives. I'm learning a lot here!

Looks like #110 is in a timewarp! Audio was yesterday.

MP3 creation requires NO licence if it's your own music....

Anyway, Todays software,

Installed o-k and found the usual Microsoft programs (Not sure why it finds Outlook Express when it comes with Windoze though!)

All my software is kept in original packaging with the keys,Anything purchased via the internet is burned to CD as well as backed up on my External Drive.
I guess this is more for the careless or purchasers of PC's with a *warez* version of Windoze and other pirated software on them.
My licence for AnyDVD came out slightly weird looking though, Seems the program could'nt read it properly?

Installed very quickly and without any problems. As already suggested it is a good idea to store key information in a secure place (other than PC) and e-mail to store on the web. This software did not find all of my keys but it did find some of them very quickly indeed. "Some" is better than none! Not likely to be considered useful on a daily basis. No excuse for poor housekeeping and not backing up important data. It is time for all of us to back up our license keys NOW. Thank you GAOTD for propting/reminding us.

Well, thank you idiotpatrol. Glad you have a forum where you can have people look at you.

Like everything once you're over 25 you have to sift the wheat from the chaff. You understand that, don't you? It really goes without saying.

And, do you have any commercial expertise? If so you would know that mp3 creation requires purchase of a licence - so Audacity leaves it out and provides a simple, legal, clone for parallel installation. Not a big thing, don't you think?

Offer positive comment here and the site will improve in quality, above its already high level. Pearls and pebbles; think about that.

So far all I'm seeing in these reviews are people complaining that they can't use this software to reinstall their Giveaways.
Well, tough.
I doubt this program was designed to STEAL software.
(Read the rules of this place "Must be installed during the giveaway period")

For what it is, this seems to pick up on the most expensive and useful software keys.
As with most software of this type it would be best used for offices where Microsoft office, paintshop etc would be used and very few "I bought this game from Reflexive" would be installed.

2 thumbs up for this when it's being used for what it was made for.

I can't believe it! So many thumbs downs from people who just can't do crap by themselves, and then complain when a perfectly good piece of software does not meet "requirements."

I've had this program, and I am once again getting it because it does what it says. Go ahead. Whine. "MY FREEWARE/OTHER PROGRAM/DOG/INTERNET/BLOG/ETC. DOES BETTER AT THIS!!" If you can't do better, then don't complain.

Also, if ANYONE noticed, it has a limit. I mean come on, over 600 freaking keys is not enough?

Here's what it SHOULD find.
