Help! I installed during giveaway period. It seemed to be registered without interring a code. There was no read me file in the archive. Now when I launch it is coming up as a trial and asks for code. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone else not have a read me file? I still have the archive, there definitely is no read me file in it. Thanks for any help.

Very much like the results it can deliver BUT as it takes so very long to get the result I won't bother to download it.

IToon development team you need to sort out this speed issue. I would not take this for free at the current speed it works at.

Installed and ran, but I can't figure out how or where to enter the serial number. Also, during the loading of an effect, it advised me a required dll file was missing from my computer. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

George Taylor, ok, it prompted me to enter the key and it's apparently activated. But I'm still getting the following error during the rendering process: "The program can't start because CORE_RL_magick_.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Is a re-start of my computer required or am I really missing part of the installation? Thanks in advance.

I found these cartoon effects working real fine. Yep, takes a bit to render, but worth the wait. Compared to many other cartoon filters I've come across, iToon gives cool results. I guess a lot of rendering time is saved by not using bigger image files than necessary, so - downsize before loading photos.
Greets,

GTA chococig zmoker, Be careful with your system, because all that extra time your spending waiting for the software to finish in the end could possibly make your PC a cartoon character with someone else directing the cartoon! Not saying that is what is going on here, I'm just saying it makes no sense whatsoever for the rendering process to take so long.

On top of that, someone made the suggestion saying : "Oh it's JAVA AND THAT IS WHY". I don't have Java installed on my PC so perhaps it's running a portable version, but either way, JAVA is not something I trust with all the exploits I have read with Java over the years.

There is a reason people are complaining about the speed processing of the software here, and that is because there is no reasonable excuse for it, meaning something fishy must be going on. JMO............

Reply   |   Comment by Speedy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Speedy, Sure everyone likes it to be more speedy (don't take it personal :) in this very case the question is if you're ready to wait for rendering or not. If it's because of Java or not, I leave it up to tech people to figure out, what matters to me is the time it takes to get the cartoon effect I like.
Now, rather than spending hours with other freeware that takes long time to get the same effect (if ever) I really don't mind iToons rendering time. As long as the "fishy" things doesn't make my AV and Malware engine report anything, then it's ok.
Some people mention Fotosketcher, but the cartoon effects you get there is not in the same league.

No problems donloading, installing etc. Played around with this for a while trying it out on various photos and the results were very good and the conversion times varied quite a bit, probably to do with the amount of info to be processed, still fairly quick. Personally I can't think of any real reason that I'd want to buy this software because I don't have any real use for it, but it is fun to play with and my selfie looked better as a cartoon than in real life ... It's a keeper for me. Happy New Year one and all.

I'm not finding this as slow as some people are saying; it converted a picture for me in three minutes. That's not instantaneous, but it's not the nine minutes that others have reported, either.

Since I'm making a computer game and can't draw at all, I'm using photographs of real people (with their permission) that I'm cartoonizing. This program looks like a very useful addition to that endeavor. Thanks, Giveaway of the Day!

I have tried several of these one trick pony programs in the past, and I have learned quickly not to expect to much out of them. I also normally don't install any software that is not digitally signed. First off, I have never heard of iToon.net, Must be a new developer on the block, itoonapp on instagram only has one follower. There was absolutely no information about the company on their website either, usually a red flag for me.

I tried the effect (icon with the lady in the red hat) on a average photo size of 2000x2000 (2.3 MB file size) and the darn thing showed loading for over 22 minutes. I finally closed the program using Task Manager. So I decided to give this iToon another shot, I used a picture 640x936 (378 KB file size) and again it showed loading for over 9 minutes, again closed using task Manager and uninstalled immediately.

That amount of time it may of taken to convert (could not even get it to work once) is totally unacceptable. I'm sorry, but I don't think iToon is ready for everyday use, and definitely not worth the $69.99 (on sale $29.95) they are normally asking for.

I don't have the fasted and most up to date system (Intel i3, 8 GB RAM), running 64-bit Windows 10 build 14393.577.

I decided to try my all-time favorite and always free FotoSketcher from David Thoiron, same picture and similar stylized effect called cartoon #2 effect applied. FotoSketcher took a mere 3 seconds to convert. I can even convert images as large as 5000x7000 (22 MB) file size using FotoSketcher, and it only takes a minute or so to convert.

Thanks GOTD Team, but not thanks, I will have to pass on today's free offer. I will stick with what is reliable and works well for me. Have a nice day.

Before I uninstalled iToon, the only way I was able to reproduce the speed of the conversion as shown in the their unbelievably fast video, is if I reduced the image to a mere 274x400 (88.5 KB file size) as indicated on their website for the online conversion portion, then it converts pretty quickly.

Something called ct (ImageMagick Studio library and utility programs) in the Task Manager ate up over 89.2% of CPU making my system very, very hot. iToonPremium.exe also ate up over 500 MB of Memory during the conversion of the small 274x400 image.

Hello everyone and the best of luck in this new year. First, I've tried and used GOTD apps for as long as I can remember. So far it's been about 50 / 50 on which apps I actually use as apposed to the apps I uninstall or never download based on the reviews. Thanks for the opportunities for "free" software all these years GOTD.

Ordiniarily I download and access the apps myself but based on the reviews I WILL NOT be downloading this one because my "high tech" gamer's rig doesn't look like it would stand a chance. Further, I don't think my great-great-grandma has time to wait on the picture I want to gift to her before she dies.

After starting the program for the first time, I was delighted by the look of it - that's cool...unfortunately, it was downhill from there :( To anyone who hasn't tried it yet, I suggest using the filters under "3x faster" - I have a fairly hefty PC and run several graphic programs at any given time, but this program brought it to it's knees (do programs have knees? Too much eggnog for this hamster, lol). When I tried to use the first choice of filter under "Cartoon Effects". it...took......for.......ever. I've done 3D renders in Poser that took way less time than this filter. The "help" button brings you to their website and online editor, and a video - the same one here on GOTD - but, no real help. I'm not a geek - when I have questions, I want a written help file.
If you really want to make your photo look like it came from GTA, it needs to be taken with that in mind - random shots are not going to work well unless you use another program like PShop. There are very few "goodies" to add to your picture, and if you do - good luck enlarging them, because I've yet to figure out how to scale them up while keeping everything proportional, it's been tedious fiddling. There's no backgrounds to add either, that would have been nice.
I get excited when GOTD offers any kind of graphics related SW, and this was no exception - but, this one was a bit of a letdown. Basically, this is just a filter program, with very few filters that take far too much time and that would really be problematic on your average hardware. The original price on the website is $69.95 (eh?!), with the sale price of $29.95 - for what this does, I think it's far too much.

Oddly, this seemed to run decently on my AMD 4core Phenom with Windows XP.
The 1x speed effects were slow, yes... but I just went and browsed elsewhere while it did its thing.
The part that kills it though is, OK you do it on one picture and uh... well that was almost fun.
Now... uh... let's go watch some paint dry.
Sadly limited box of tricks for $69.95 or even $29.95 or even.. uh.. free.

I did install the program in Win10-64 Pro(i7, 16Gb, 2Gb Nvidia, SSD).
It opens fine and the registration went fine after the second start.
After loading a picture it takes time. On this PC about 2 minutes to make this one:

Ootje, again, i love your samples. a picture is worth a thousand words.

i think their description and name does not fit, at all, what this program does. i'm rather shaking my head thinking it doesn't make a lot of sense.

the last example, without those two guns or whatever it is, is not bad but can be found in other programs. there is not a lot of integration with what is being placed on top of the subject, and what the original subject is.

Simple installation and registration, opens up to an atrocious interface.

In XP it complains that a DLL is missing however it continues to create the cartoon eventually.

The creation of the cartoon is incredibly slow even on a four core CPU.
There is little control of how the output of the cartoon will look as are insufficient controls to be able to do this action.

A FREE program that leaves it for dead is Fotosketcher and is available at the following link:-
http://fotosketcher.com/download-fotosketcher/
.
Don't waste your time with today's download as it can't compete with an excellent free program.

Installed quick and easy on Win10. Registered without a problem following the directions. Loaded up a photo and spent 9 minutes and 27 seconds to apply the first effect. Changed to the second effect and that took 11 minutes and 41 seconds. The effects are...decent. Not overly good, but I've seen worse. Many programs offer the same type of picture modification that work a lot faster, like, over 9 minutes faster. Overall, very disappointed with the photo quality and the time it took to achieve such quality. Didn't play with anything else in the program, didn't have the extra 2 days to spare for each setting. Uninstalled :(

Downloaded and installed easily on Windows 10 AE 64 bit.

It is very slow and the effects are not really anything you can't do in many other programmes, free or purchased, so I was disappointed. The emphasis on GTA is a bit odd and restrictive as I don't think many users will feel a need for that. I would suggest that a wider range of added graphics, particularly humour, would greatly widen the appeal and attract a wider user-base of casual users.

For a more 'professional user' it may be that if it is viewed as an intermediate tool, i.e. use this for the initial conversion then finalise in an art programme, it may have some value. I'm not sure that many people will want to go down that route, though, and it is a bit of a chore.

I appreciate the giveaway and will keep it for a bit to play with and see what it is capable of in a workflow. All in all, I have to say that I certainly wouldn't buy it for its current abilities but can see that it has potential.

On XP got error message that CORE_RL_magick.dll was not found, and that re-installing may fix the problem. I don't know how re-installing would work with the giveaway so I haven't done it. Clicking ok and the programme continues, although as another reviewer said it is quite slow. Decent results, but not sure that it will be used regularly, but for free, i'll keep it until I need the disk space

crappy new year,

"On XP got error message that CORE_RL_magick.dll was not found..."

Just FWIW, ImageMagick [wikipedia[.]org/wiki/ImageMagick] is open source software that's been around for quite a while [1990], so it's quite possible that one or more versions have been installed before, possibly as part of other software.

"...as another reviewer said it is quite slow."

Lots of potential reasons for that, but only one I came across that you **might** effect... the code used for multi-threading may not work well, so limiting the CPU cores used [e.g. to 1] *might* speed things up [Google for directions on how to do that as necessary].

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

DrBob_007`,

NOT going to knock 10, nor say it's the greatest thing since white bread, but rather that for a whole lot of hardware it's simply not possible. Lots of current hardware will not run XP, being totally incompatible, just like lots of XP hardware will never, ever run 10 [unless it's in a VM hosted by Linux].

DrBob_007`, Because close to 50% of all Windows Users still use XP. Why? Because it is hands up the best OS Microsoft ever created and every Windows OS since then has been built around it's model. If you want a mobile OS then use 8, or 10; if you want a computer OS then use XP or 7. Why is 10 stable; because XP is stable. And many users that use 7 also dual boot XP, as well; the best of both worlds.

Yes i still use XP sometimes, But mainly use Win7 Pro, Have Win10 very rarely use it, NOT as Stable as claimed. Everyone users what they are comfortable with, Tried this Softwre on Win 7 and 10, is Slow as mentioned, but results are ok. Oh i use to Love Windows 98 2nd Edition, Had no trouble with it, But now outdated, And Remember Amiga Computers, Best Multi Tasking Computers around for there day and Color Graphics as well other PC's still only had Orange or Greenish Screens took Microsoft years to Multi Task Properly. But we have to Move with the times.

Any way i find iToon ok but not Great, Price reasonable but $20 would be Better, also better if iToon could speed up the Effects, which could turn some people off, as they don't like to Grow Old waiting for the Effects to Finish before applying the next effect and waiting and waiting.
Mark.

The program decompresses a load of files to the Windows temp folder, (and doesn't clean up after itself), which, if I recall correctly, is in a different place in XP. Maybe that was the problem

Has the Photo Stitcher issue of not being able to open the program been resolved yet!

Richard Hind, Do you mean registration problem? Opens fine for me; just won't register.

JonE, Unfortunately like a few others have reported that it installs, but won't open, administrator, or even logging on as an administrator. Win10 x64, i7-3820, 3.6GHz, 16RAM. I've been around GAOTD for flipping years and years, and things have got progressively worse over the years. AVG always has to be turned off these days, and yesterday, iToons was stopped by Windows itself. Jumping through hoops isn't my thing unless it's a really useful program, such as WinX Copy/Ripper. Time for me to stop my GAOTD notifications! Thanks for asking, apologies for the rant.

Richard Hind, You said, "Time for me to stop my GAOTD notifications! Thanks for asking, apologies for the rant."

First, no apologies needed for the rant. As for things getting worse I totally understand; I mean I totally understand.

Don't know what to tell you about it not opening; it opens for me, it just won't register. I received a response from the iFotosoft support people saying something about running under Administrator; my best bet is that I will end up uninstalling it. I have two similar programs already installed; GOTD offerings of the past; PhotoStitcher and Arcsoft Panorama Maker.
God Bless Your New Year!

Very slow to apply effects and very few "Goodies" to add apart from about a dozen cars and 50 types of machine gun. I thought this might be a fun program to use but looks like I'll be uninstalling.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Nigel, this is no keeper. I have already uninstall it.

Nigel, I had the same problem. I have 16GB's of ram and a modern fast PC but this software just takes way too long to process pictures. What I can't figure out is the example video above why it is running so fast for the person who made the video. Makes me wonder if there isn't more going on than just photo processing.
Uninstalled via reboot.

Speedy,

Same here, I should have included that I also have 16Gb RAM and a fast i7 processor. Anyone with less will have to set a day aside to do anything worthwhile. Already done a restore and it's off my system.

Nigel, 28 gb of ram... ya it's not fast however I never expect ANY rendering software to jump the gun an give me a instant result.

If it was the case a old tool from Source Forge would be making me millions at this point.

Kandid the tool is great and rendering stuff but good god it's slow as hell for the rendering as it's in Java.

But to get to the point If the final product gives me what I want it can render for 12h as much as I care.
