Can not run. Using Windows 10 Pro When I try to run I get "An Administrator has blocked you from running this app".

When this program opens up, it takes up more than my whole screen. There's no way to minimize or close it without going to task manager and shutting it down. I've never had this problem before. Any ideas? Also, is there a registration key for this?

Dell Win 10 64bit Tower will not let me install the setup.exe file. It keeps telling an administrator has blocked me from running this app... I am the administrator and have tried running the setup.exe as administrator (right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" but the result is the same.

James McDonald, Download the file and Extract to a folder you have created such as “ C:\New “
After that, run Command Prompt open with admin rights by right-clicking on it and selecting this option.
Then type “ C:\new\setup.exe “ in the command prompt without the “ “ with no spaces. This allowed me to install on my Windows 10 64Bit Computer.

Reply   |   Comment by James McDonald  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

James McDonald, Then it will run in the command Prompt only typing to many commands. The short cut placed on the DESKTOP had the same ERROR Code Displayed. What is wrong with this program. The PROGRAM CODE IS seriously lacking in the software to work with Windows 10 64 Bit. To get to run again Uninstall the program and reinstall and run from the install and it will work one more time.

You need to get the problem fix before it is ready for prime time use.
Thanks olemacd

Just tried converting a PDF book to a DOC file and all the program did was render the pages into one image per page at quite a low resolution, certainly not the same print quality of the original PDF file. Unimpressed This converts a layered PDF document to an non-ediable PDF file with absolutley fixed pages made of single low resolution images with no facility to even change the rendered DPI! To me this is the most primative way to "convert" a PDF file into any other file format and the least useful or desirable. Developer must try harder to actually CONVERT a PDF file into another format and not just render pages to flat bitmaps

TK, hey thanks! You just saved me a lot of time. I have PDF files which I save to test for the very things you just described. Now I don't have to download it and try it out for myself. I keep hoping beyond hope that SOMEone will come up with a great converter program that will do the perfect job. Or am I living in a fantasy world?

Reply   |   Comment by CJCotter  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

CJCotter, You are welcome, 'tis why I post... you are not living in a fantisy world. PDF files do have known and manipulatable file formats BUT there are many possible ways to produce the same looking document and so it makes it difficult to simply transcode all PDF files into say DOCX format or any other given format. The simple aproach this uses of render each page into a raster image of quite low resolution then wrap that raster image in a PDF page wrapper and move on to the next page is by far the simplest and univerally compatible but strips out everything contained within the PDF file but the final low resolution render. It is likely the most reasonable expectation is to wish for a converter that will convert to a file format that has the same adaptability as the PDF file specification... so layers raster objects, vector objects and pure text objects as well as embedded fonts and javascript and URLs as well as forms can be placed in the file and made operational.... Ok maybe do the PERFECT job is expecting a bit much since no other file format has all the capabilities... The compromise would be a comprehensive PDF processor that allows creation and editing of PDF files using native PDF structures and contains export converters to export to various file formats with the caveat that most exported file formats will lose some of the PDF features.

My suggestion for the next revision is to include a PDF file optimised OCR package as not only are scanned PDF files common, some programs re-encode text as vector shapes and so are not real text mode PDF files even if the vector shape text looks like text and not a scanned PDF document.

Send the EXE to virustotal.com
and just one warning: Trojan.Fakealert.57879

Ootje, Do you ever look at the results you put up on the internet? This link does nothing more than take you to Virus total home page.
Further, the links to Dropbox or Stackstorage for people to view your results are I'm sure well meaning but force people to download to see these results. I'm not downloading any file from a source I have no reason to know enough to trust.

Reply   |   Comment by Raj Singh  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Ootje, and the programs main executable has no detections on virustotal
PDF Converter.exe
Scan Date: 2018-05-10 04:50:04
Hash: 5c0d432fe7b8bae485def223dd53cbd5
Detections: 0/67

File had no detections

When I installed todays program using the provided setup.exe which has that single fakealert warning on virus total from the Dr.Web engine... I experienced no alerts fake or genuine... so I believe the Dr.Web fake alert alert is a fake alert :) It also accepted the registration key without issue or internet connection attempt.
Help is via an online web page only though.

Reply   |   Comment by JardaH  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Raj Singh, virustotal.com results URL's are normally browser dependant and for example a firefox based URL will not render the proper results in Internet Explorer... and visa versa. It is currently something we just have to live with unless you expect Ootje and others to post one URL for each browser out there that is supported by virustotal.com which I think would not be very practical or fair to the poster having already done the test in their browser and posted a comment... Readers needing to see similar results can simply go to virustotal.com and check the file themselves or use the Explorer context menu shell extension to check files scanning results on virustotal and optionally submit a file for subsiquent re-scanning.
Also remember even if after posting we notice that the wordpress comments plugin that this site uses in some way messes up a URL or text formatting we cannot change, edit, redact or delete the submitted comment.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

JardaH, lets see if this google translate of the Russian forum thread URL works:

https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&tab=TT&sl=ru&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.drweb.com%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D328839

Note though that the particlar false positive discussed in that thread is from December 2017 and is NOT refering the the false positive detection with this giveaways installer which is newer than that thread.

Raj Singh, "Do you ever look at the results you put up on the internet?"
The link I place are OK. But GOTD alters them.
My link: h.t.t.p.s://www.virustotal.com/#/file/b66b0394074b7f69be5cebb7efbbb0efa5031afaea04097e292c839dc6df6fbd/detection
And GOTD: http://links.giveawayoftheday.com/s/virustotal.com/
Everything after # is forgotten to copy.
You should copy just the letters of the link and paste them in a browser.
Example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4rl2ql3e06wdggq/Virustotal.png
"the links to Dropbox or Stackstorage for people to view your results"
And Dropbox and Stackstorage: I never put there any EXE or COM files: just PDF, TXT and images to view.
And there is a preview-button on that site:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ukfo7xjybwxfa6s/Stack.png
Otherwise I cannot let you see what the results are of a action. Then you should just believe my words for it and for me that is a much bigger issue to do with strangers.

TK, "to post one URL"
The URL I posted are from Firefox. But very often I check them in Slimjet and IE11 and also Edge in Win8.1 and also in Win10 and sometimes on a mobile. All the same result.
When posted on the site of GOTD they will be altered and get something like link "h.t.t.p://links.giveawayoftheday.com/s/forum.drweb.com/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D328839"

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Ootje, yes and with the virustotal.com link you posted.. the URL you posted was fine, but the links plugin filter stripped the URLs parameters off completely leaving just the domains root page!

h.t.t.p://links.giveawayoftheday.com/s/virustotal.com/

instead of

h.t.t.p://links.giveawayoftheday.com/s/virustotal.com/#/file/b66b0394074b7f69be5cebb7efbbb0efa5031afaea04097e292c839dc6df6fbd/detection

I guess the plugin rips out the "#" and whatever follows in an entered URL?
I just tried a hack around that bug by URLEncoding the # into %23 but none of the browsers I tried correctly parsed the resultant URL

https://www.virustotal.com/%23/file/b66b0394074b7f69be5cebb7efbbb0efa5031afaea04097e292c839dc6df6fbd/detection

So it will not work in most browsers even if the links interstitial URL interceptor allows the full URL through... I am just posting it to see if it survives the plugin. I know it won't work in IE, Edge or Firefox.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

TK, Well I never... the hacked URL by itself did NOT work in the mentioned browsers BUT the munged URL that the comments plugin produces DID WORK! so replacing the "#" character in the virustotal.com URLs with "%23" stops the URL being truncated and oddly does unmunge into a working virustotal.com results URL!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Ootje, for those that are not able to click on your link, they could copy it and paste to the browser, then it brings to the results

Gringuk, maybe it relates to Ootje posting of virus detection.could be that your antivirus software detects as well and reports as administrator blocking when actually antivirus software.

Had some problems with the install being blocked. Converted a pdf to Word but it does not - it makes the pages into graphics and pastes them in Word and does the same when converting to powerpoint. This means it is not really converting the files so they are not able to be edited in Word or Powerpoint. Presumably the same with other destinations.

I'm not on the staff of program but In general, if PDF was made without an OCR, they're only a picture. This program does not have a embedded OCR to convert a picture in text. And I think convert in PDF in Office or similar does maintain texts editable in retroconversion

Installed in WinXP, no problems.
Also no problems in Win8.1-x64
Some PDF-> Word or TXT were OK; in Word many extra Enters.
Some other PDF -> Word/TXT were not good. In DOC the PDF became an image and the TXT was empty.
Some PDF(info) were made in Win8.1 with a PDF-printer and the conversion went OK.
A test: txt printed on a printer, scanned to image, image converted to PDF with the GOTD-progam and after that converted to DOC/TXT: not very good.
All files and results are in:

Sandro Feliciano, "iCareAll PDF Converter is an easy-to-use PDF converting program that can help you convert PDF to Word, PPT, Excel, text documents,. . ."
It's true, that if a PDF is converted to an image in Word, it still is a conversion.
It's also true, that there are nothing said about OCR.
I did assume, when there is a conversion to Word, the result would be text, to be edited. My mistake/missread
The GOTD-program can only convert a txt-PDF, not a scanned PDF.

Ludwig Wittgenstein, First of all, locate the problematic file, right-click on it, and select Properties.
Copy the full location of the file.
After that, run Command Prompt with admin rights by right-clicking on it and selecting this option.
Paste the location of your file and add the name of the file with .exe at the end.
Click Enter and check to see whether it will run. <-- Found on the web. Works for me. Tip - Don't have spaces in the directory name. Good luck.

Ludwig Wittgenstein, before you extracted the downloaded zip bundle did you right click and select properties and told windows to unblock the file since you know where the file came from even if windows can't figure out that it came from a legit SSL authenticated site. If you do not do that then ALL installed security software of merit will treat the zip and its contents as an unknown and potentially unaccceptable risk and likely will not let you execute the files or if your settings have been customised to let you decide will require your explicit aproval to run.
