A followup to my last comment: I decided to cancel scanning and on exiting the process found that iCare was scanning my C:\ and not the F:\ it was instructed to do. Uninstalled.

Installed and registered very easily using onscreen prompts. The software offers three levels on scanning. My external HD someone lost i guge folder yesterday, so I thought this would be a good test for iCare. The initial scan found no files at all. The deep scanning is now underway and though the scan does move along apace it will still be some time before completion. I see that a decent number of files are being found. At this point though, I would like to "pause" the scan but cannot do so. I can cancel it, but not pause. For analysing large media this is a deal breaker for me. I need to be able to run intensive software anytime that is necessary.

There is only an hour left till this program runs out. Has anyone heard of a solution yet to the registration problem??? It seems like some have the option/some don't. I don't see why the programs are not the same for everyone. I wish I could put screen shots here, for the people that could register and think we are blind. :)

Where do you insert the key? I couldn't find a registration option when I started iCare.

I see many of us are having this problem. On their website, it shows the registration key is very easily seen. I DO Not have it..... Now I see other people don't either. Some do... I wonder why??? Been having so much problems lately with the programs from here.

I received a reply from the vendor stating the key is requested at data recovery time - so DON'T LOSE IT!

No place to enter registration number. And when I bring up "about" it shows that I have iCare Data Recovery 7.8.2 Nothing about it being Pro. Is there a difference or is it the same thing?

Let me also add that when I hit the web page on the about part, it takes me to the iCare Data Recovery Free page.

Comment to John King. Mine doesn't even have a place to register. I have looked everywhere, plus, saw a snapshot of the program, and in nice big letters, where to register at. Can't find that page now, but I know my program did not have it there.

Seemed to install fine but when i try to start the program all it will do is bring up an error which states
"the application failed to initalize properly (0xc0150004)click on OK to terminate the application"
Tried restarting the program nut no luck there either. anyone else having this problem ?
I'm using XP wSP3

I have a drive with a corrupt partition, windows gives it a drive letter and asks to format (of course I click no).

This program when I select 'Lost Partition Recovery' (after a bit of waiting) can't even find the drive? Then I tried 'Deep Scan Recovery' again it can't find the drive?! Yet windows is still displaying the drive letter.

Useless.

Installer doesn't work. I have had this problem lately with other downloads. Windows gives no clue as to what is wrong; just that it has to close the program. When I do that an activation pane appears with the activation code, but no installation occurs.

When I test recovery programs, I use a faulty 16 Gb USB key.
The drive contains thousands of files but Windows recognize the drive with the message "You need to format the disk …".

Pros: iCare Data Recovery Pro recognized the drive, and found most of the files including the correct folder- and filenames!!!

Cons: iCare Data Recovery Pro didn’t find all files - It got stuck at a bad sector. Compared to the $30 price tag on the excellent Data Rescue PC3, $90 is probably too much.

Suggestions:
Show a sector count. That way the user can press cancel if the program gets stuck or
Allow scans from sector xxx to sector yyy or even better
If a sector is unreadable, make the program take a note and then move on.

Most recovery programs only find the files, not the folder- / filenames, and if you have thousands of files on a drive, it’s imperative that a recovery program can do just that. So to me this is a keeper.

Thanks to GoTD and Li Hongliang.
