Hello Hornil
Any response to Posts #68 and #79 - both have same problem.
**********************************************************
I had a working version of StylePix from previous giveaway. I installed this version and activated it. When trying to run I get Error ” The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dll KERNEL32dll”.
I uninstalled both version and did a clean install of this version. I get the same error.
Now I have lost previous working version.

The automatic language translation is indeed awful, to the point of making the program unusable. I guess you have to use a English proxy when activating, but it is too late for that now. A pity.

Anita,
You have to temporarily elevate your account into one with administrator's rights. Activate the program, turn it then back into an user-account. The problem is not new. Good luck.

Regarding the registration and the missing license code...
I noticed that once I ran setup.exe as an Admin (I use Vista and the README file specifically instructs me to use that option) and launched the program at the end, before having separately activated it, the license was missing and I only got a chance to use it for 30 days. But if I close first the program, choose to Activate (again as an Admin) and re-start the program, then the Help | License Info window reads "Hornil StylePix Pro license is valid" and I now have the Pro version.
I think it's best to first un-check the Launch Program selection at the end of the Install process before hitting Finish, deal with the activation and only then officially start the program.
Great addition to my collection of freebies. Thanks a million GAOTD! Much appreciated.
And thanks to Ashraf for the review (version 1.14.0.0) - I think the misunderstanding about the bloatware might be due to differences in the testing versions. Today's offering is 1.14.2.2 and there was nothing suspicious during the installation. Ashraf may have been given a different content in his evaluation file, so please go easy on him. At least, pay attention to the version he is reviewing, before accusing him of misinformation.

About activation -
Logged in as Administrator; I ran the setup.exe - at the end of it, I unchecked the "Run StylePix now" (something similar) I unchecked the box and clicked on Finish. Then ran Activate.exe. That did the job.
Hope this helps for somebody.

O.K. Following the suggestion in post #69 I was able to activate the program. However the instructions need to be made more clear because the procedure is very different that what is usually standard on GAOTD.

Installed but wouldn't run on Win XP Pro. Uninstalled. Left directory in Program Files. Sloppy uninstall. Thumbs down. :(

A thought for those having trouble installing it: Do your Windows Update! Select ALL official updates from Microsoft, including Internet Explorer which is usually left unchecked for update, except watch out on the "Optional" section and uncheck the Bing stuff if any of those are checked, unless you want those. But there could be a NET update in the "Optional" section and DO select that one. Install all of the official Microsoft updates (except the Bing stuff as noted) and reboot as needed as instructed, you might have to reboot once or even twice. I will bet that this will solve some of the installation problems.

@ 26 – Ben: You should have quoted Ashraf’s sentence in its entirety: “Free version includes quite a bit of bloatware during install — be very careful.” It is not the free version we download here, it is the pro one.
@ 38 – Meshulam : View (6th column)/ Option (bottom line)/ Display language / OK – or the equivalent in the language you chose.
@ 43 - Pat : I used the portable version of StylePix occasionally, and it never tried to be default program. And neither did the pro version, which I installed today. If bloating you registry is such a big issue for you, you should always uninstall with Revo uninstaller (there is a free version and even a portable one) and check “’advanced” for the deepest uninstallation mode.
@ 52 - j : PhotoFiltre, even in its free version, has that feature you mentioned.

What a shame, I really would of liked to check this one out, good reviews. It crashed, not game enough to try again,
StylePixPro.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.
Thanks anyway.

I copied all files from the ZIP to a folder.
I ran setup.exe as admin
I had the same problem--it didn't activate after installing.
However, I then just went and ran activate.exe separately. And it activated fine then. I didn't even run that as admin.
So it works for me. I'm a Lightroom and PS user. Looks like nice software...I don't need it right now, but figured it was worth a try.

The program is poorly written, but it will run ok as a standard user if you switch the user account to admin and run the activation. Then change the user account back to a standard user and the program will find the license when started.

Thanks to David (#69) I gave it another try. I uninstalled and then ran the installer again. I think the first time I must have deleted the Activate for Vista (thinking I didn't need it being on Win7) then I extracted the Activate.exe outside of the original folder and even outside my downloads folder and this time it worked without a hitch! :-D

I'm with Anita (post 70). I cannot get the Activate.exe to do anything. I'm on Win7 and have 2 gm ram and 350+ gm free space but nothing. I get the pop up that asks if I want to allow the program to make changes to my computer (which I get anytime I try to install something), I tell it yes and nothing happens. I've tried about 5 times. The software won't let me do anything until it's registered. I'm pretty bummed. Couldn't get the game to work when we had that cell phone glitch and now this. :( Hope it doesn't get fixed after the time has expired.

Hi again, since my last post (about Photoshop filters) I tested few within Hornil StylePix Pro 1.14.2.2 itself and even better 'bokeh' effect can be achieved using 'Miniture' Filter in either Blur section, or Enhance Photo - here is the link to page about this specific feature: http://hornil.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=sp_tip&wr_id=57 With toolbox opened adjustments can be made to use proper amount of blurring/sharpening a.s.o. I'm begining to like this Software more and more!:)

Thanks David. I normally don't have to extract the files. I just run them from the zip folder. I did copy and past the activate file elsewhere and tried that. It didn't work. So I extracted all the files and it worked.

I've waited all day to see if someone had answered pavlo m.'s question. I've tried to activate 3 times, before starting the program like I always do. It won't activate. It wants a key. Guess I'll try it for 30 days.

Weird. Unlike other GAOTD programs with Activation files, this time it did not work like 'normal'. I installed the program and exited it (as stated) and ran Activate from within the ZIP file (which has worked in the past). This time I could not get the program to activate. I had to manually unzip the zipped file to physically extract the Activate file and then run it. Worked fine doing that. Looks like a great program to try and use. Thanks. Just a strange bug or something with running Activate....

@ 38 Meshulam. Start the program, if you can't read the menus, press F10 to start Options and the first item will allow you to change the language. Alternatively, navigate to c:\Program Files\Hornil\StylePixPro\Language and delete all languages except the one you want to use.

Installed on a virtualized Win7 machine and cannot activate - tried a number of times with and without the program running. Ditto when running the activate.exe program as administrator as suggested in the readme file. It still pops up a "30 days left" message.

Also want to add that I have not seen any signs of a even a single instance of bloatware or any other unwanted inclusions.

If you visit GAOTD, but only download the 'must have' offers, then this software is something you should grab. Can't add much more than what is covered in the comments, except to say that the positive remarks are not embellishments - this software is deserving of the high-praise.
If there were one feature I'd like to have, I'd like to see the functions of a standard 'Paint' program included in this program. The ability to combine the features of 'StylePix Pro' and 'Paint' in the same interface would open a lot of possibilities. It's not hard to change between Paint & StylePix, it would just be nice if that weren't needed.

@27 papin. You can put the shortcut to this (or any) program anywhere you want in the Start menu. Open the the Start menu, right click and select Open. A Win Explorer window opens. You can then copy and past or drag and drop the shortcut or Stylepix folder to your preferred location.
@35 trevor. All it takes is one bit dropped or out of place during download to make a program go crazy. You might try downloading and installing it again. I've also found over the years that some programs, especially ones that require activation, misbehave until you do either a warm reboot (restart) or cold boot (complete shutdown, then fresh boot). The program directions don't always tell you this is required because most computers don't seem to need it. A few, however, do need it, and a seemingly flawed program can become a model citizen after a restart.

Six downloads of installation, and had to uninstall each attempt. as it crashes after EVERY installation. It's not the system or my PC. Same symptoms as 20, 35, and 36. (Win7 64 bit, 4gb ram, P4 processor)Also didn't work on a 7th attempt with (gulp) Baidu/Avira turned off. This has happened several times with gaotd dl's of late, and I'm not alone in this by any means!

Tried for a while and... a warning message.
Those of you who would like to use the software in your native tongue other than English may find it difficult or impossible due to the horrible quality of translation, which exceeds generally terrible sofware translation standards to the extend that prompts, descriptions are completele incomprehensible.
That’s at least the case of my native tongue: Polish. For instance: "Ruler" (meaning a screen measuring tool) was translated into Polish as "Sovereign", "King" or "Master".
Moreover, if the default langue of your system is other than English you may still be in trouble when trying to swich to the Engilish version of the softare. The tool bar and some other baloon explanations will be in English, but several drop-out menus will persist to be in the incomprehensible "translation" into your native toungue!!!
They must have used a machine translation or hired the cheapest and thoughtless translator. What a shame for a company aspiring to be professional!!!
Their software may be good, but the "learning curve" is too steapy for me!

A decent middle-level editor, there is no reason to compare it to photoshop or gimp.
It doesn't support raw photos or 16-bit images.
The browser is quite basic, lacking most of free zoner's searching and tagging abilities. On the other hand it has layers and layer masks, zoner doesn't.

Most giveaways here are good but this one is excellent! It's fast and has everything you need.
There's a special but very simple function that is rarely seen in graphic editors. Even that overpriced antique pig now moved to the cloud. Under "Image/Canvas Size", you can expand the canvas to particular pixel dimensions. For example, if you load an image which is 234x600 pixels, you can expand the canvas with white borders to 400x600 without changing the image with stretching or cropping. It is surprising how useful this is, when you have it available, for printing or webpages. With other graphic editors you normally have to copy the image, set a new blank canvas of 400x600, then carefully paste the image in by hand and mouse which is always jiggly to get centered right. Try that with that cloud one. Some other programs may have a chain of steps that could wind up with this result, but it works here directly and simply like I think about it - load then expand with borders to the size or aspect ratio I need.
This ONE function, in a nice complete overall program, makes this one worth its real price to certain people, and you'll probably find this function useful too, now that I've pointed it where it is in the program. It's the first thing I looked for because I need it a lot.
THANK YOU Hornil and THANK YOU GiveawayOTD. And Hornil, you will have a real money purchase pretty soon! :)

@ 28 glnz (actually me)
I seem to have fixed the problem by first converting the standard account into an admin account, going into that user, re-running Activate, and then converting the account back to standard. A bit clunky bit it worked.
Now, there is a different issue: Thanks to GAOTD, I have Start Menu X on all three accounts. Today's installation of Hornil StylePix Pro 1.14.2.2 shows up as a new program ONLY in the Start Menu X for the admin account in which I first installed the program, and NOT in the Start Menu X for the other two accounts (one admin and one standard). I fixed this by copying a shortcut into the Win 7 Programs folder in each of the other two accounts, so it now shows up in Start Menu X BUT only that shortcut shows up, not the complete Hornil program folder icon.
SO - Hornil might focus on a better installation process that can install on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit machine in all accounts (including "standard" accounts) AND so that the complete Hornil Program folder appears in the Program list for all accounts.
Thanks, Hornil and GAOTD. More high-quality stuff, please. (On my wish list - a good document management system like the one in my law firm (like Worldox), a good server OS that a non-tech can set up and use, and a complete small business accounting system that has inventory in and out, deals well with consignment and returns and can both print and scan barcodes on inventory. These three would have to work well together.)

Hi, today's Offer is truly a banquet for thirsty and hungry photo editing 'hunters'! Not only it comes with fabulous Software in shape of Hornil StylePix Pro 1.14.2.2 - it generously provides tons of useful links in it's DesignCenter on homepage.
I very quickly found my way to free Photoshop Recourses (plugins) here:
http://hornil.com/en/design/DesignPhotoshopRes.html , followed one link here: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/08/03/a-z-of-free-photoshop-plugins-and-filters/ , and found this one: http://www.photo-plugins.com/Plugins/Plugins/Local-Contrast-Enhancement-2.html
For those interested in creating 'bokeh like' effect in Photoshop - this pluging called 'ppplce 8BF File' standing for Local-Contrast-Enhancement can do just that (or closely about), all one has to do is select area of Image beforehand and go for it (filters, this one found under 'Photo-Plugins' in lower section), keeping blending to zero, as it might be to much. Afterwards what's left to do is to play a little to adjust color of enhanced area and deselect.
("To install the plugins in Adobe Photoshop / Photoshop Elements / Illustrator / ImageReady just copy them into the "Plugins" or "Plug-ins" sub folder inside the Photoshop, Illustrator or ImageReady folder")
Sorry if great portion of my comment refers to 'Photoshop', but like with any photo Software such as Today's Offer - we go 'wow' if certain filters/plugins can be installed also into Photoshop. Hornil doesn't offer this possibility, but goes out of it's way to provide under it's banner - v. useful links. I call it wise and unstinted generosity!
Thanks a lot GAOTD and Hornil.Co for this Gift. Recommended!!

Finnish translation is dreadful, for example the "undo"-function reads as "purkaa" (demolish) in my language. When do you devs learn? You just can't make sensible Google translations for your paid software.
Installer doesn't contain any adware or bloatware. But the activator does! No, I don't need more bookmarks of GOTD or any Software informers. Why do you forcefully open Internet Explorer after activating?

I was very much looking forward to trying this software. HOWEVER, apparently that's not going to happen. I tried THREE times with the same end result. After the seemingly successful installation, when attempting to open the application, it would instantly cause my computer to re-boot. Fortunately, I had set a restore point, so after each failure, I started the whole process over, but every time I had an instant re-boot when trying to start the app. My system is Win XP w/service pack 2 installed. - What a disappointment, (and waste of my time).

I downloaded the free portable version from publisher's website (to see will I like it or not before installing this version coz I don't like installing & uninstalling programs coz they leave things in the ragistry) and it tries to make changes to registry!
Especially it wants to be default program to open all graphic files. That's not what I call portable! Portable in my opinion doesn't leave anything in the registy! I will not try the Giveaway version then. Someone here wrote it changes a lot in the registry. Thanks but no, thanks.
