This time I didn't get activation key or the "activation" page from GOTD, so I guess it won't work for me. No time to re-install. Thanks again for the alternatives.

for those that have activation problems.... the name is that in the window with the activation key....downloadoftheday

and for those that wish to install it down the road at a later date, just download the official software from the producers website and be sure to keep the activation name/key tucked away.

all what the download from here does is that it checks the date/time to the download of the day servers, if the day matches, install will continue, if not it will abort, but if you get the download direct from ftp synchronizers web site......well, you get the idea ;)

Can someone pls explain me the sync options available?

"1) Update remote files only
2) Update remote files and delete obsolete files from ftp server
3) Update local files only
4) Update local files and delete obsolete files from local computer
5) Bi-directional sync"

In the earlier step, I chose a local folder which is empty and a remote directory that has content. I want to opt for 'Bi-directional sync' but am afraid all the remote content will be erased as the local folder is empty.

Any ideas?

I need a good free FTP server if anybody knows about one besides 110mb.com, please post it.

Also, I wish people would stop complaining about the registration process. It's the genius of this project. That is the whole reason GAOTD gets visitors. It is appealing to companies, because if someone downloads it, likes it, then deletes it or gets a new computer, they'll buy it later. Sure it's inconvenient for you, but without the current registration process, we won't get the wonderful software we receive every day.

#12 I don't normally flame anyone but "linux apps" are pretty much nearly always open source apps so you can have them on any platform including Windows, and never underestimate the user base it is a full spectrum.

Also Cygwin allows most of them to run pretty much hassle free. But like I said the other day Rsync is the bomb and if anyone wants secure transfers try SCP which has all flavours including WinSCP for windows. This product looks ok but I got stuff for this sort of thing and it's working fine so why use something else that isn't open source :). GAOTD can be a good source of stuff but will never make everyone happy.

for the people saying use filezilla, as far as I'm aware filezilla does *not* do automatic FTP synchronization. This offer is not for FTP client software, it's for a synchronization solution.

The guy listing SyncBack Freeware posted an alternative solution that does what this does.

This program is not aware of the fact that Windows uses \ and FTP server /. Messed up my ftp server I have folders now of this style:
"\XXX\YYY" the \ is include in the folder name.
Now I can't delete this folder with another FTP program.
The files were not copied because ftp Syncgchronizer failed on ites own created folders.

Thanks, GotD!
I just realized that I had a use for this program! I have to ensure that the data I use from remote sites is the most current. Now I can synchronize my local dataset to the remote with the click of one button!

#50 It's not like a window pops up with a registration key or anything. And it's not like it could be copied into a text file for later retrieval or something.

The point is; if it's useful to you get it for free now and use it until you have to buy it. That will only happen if you wipe out the registry. In the mean time, you've gotten one heck of a free trial. For nothing. At all.

After downloading & installing I received the activation key FYY9TC-K8T4HU-CHEPHE-LG8RL6. I was not able to register. I tried calling, sending emails, after searching the entire website. I received instructions from Lewis Tian
support@ftpsynchronizer.com to do following: Here is the registration information:

--- edited: publishing of serials is not allowed here ---

You can click 'Help->Enter registration information' to register. When I clicked on "Help" I did not have that option. I could not find anywhere to register. I have spent a lot of time and gotten nowhere. If you can still assist me, please do. this is very confusing.

HOLY MOLY! You peeps are like mind readers! I was looking for something like this 2 days ago. I'm a systems engineer by trade (electrical is my specialty). I travel alot. Alot of my friends and family come to me for all the answers (You might say I'm a "know it all". So much so, that I've had to make my own FTP site to post answers for those dimmer than I, ROTFL.

A recent issue came up where I had to update my site from the Chinese consolate in Beijing,(Again my comrades proved me INVALUABLE as they couldn't do without me for a couple days, rotfl). I can't get into the exact specifics, as the case is still of a classified nature. But I wish I had this program back then. I would have updated my site and been out of there before I was caught by the Chinese Prime Minister. I did get away (but again that's classified). I'm fine physically now anyways; emotionally and mentally I'm a wreck though. Still giot a bit of a twitch too. No reason to bring up old wounds though, sry I digress. Besides, I'm not bitter. Twas my job. Twas my destiny.

FTP updating has never been easier. Those freeware ones can't compare to this interface. I was in and out faster than you can say "espionage". Much easier than through Frontpage without all the unnecessary "bells and Whistles".

Cheers to you chaps at GOTD and devs. Your country thanx you.

You guys ROCK! Woot! yea Baby, Yea!

Great idea; defective product! I tried uploading from windows to a linux server. No problem. Then I tried downloading from that server to another windows machine. Let's say my home directory there is /home/foo and I want to keep every file in /home/foo/sync sychronized with C:\Documents and Settings\bar\My Documents on my windows machines, so I configure it with the latter two folders and an inclusion filter of *, right? Oh, and I'm using the SFTP option cuz I don't want my password going out in clear text to whole freakin' world. It proceeds to go /home/foo/../otheruser, /home/foo/../../bin, etc... NOT what I asked for! This was despite the setting that specified omission of read-only and system files. I also tried excluding .. but to no avail. It does work using standard FTP but forget this turkey if you care about security!

The Inclusion instruction to FTP Synchroniser is very powerful. All files not indicated *.php;*.htm;*.html;*.js;*.css;*.cgi (and so on) automatically are not included. 342 files in 90 folders were processed in the blink of an eye.

Disappointed to read Increase's remark "Just a shame this version can only accommodate 5 profiles" but, hey, it's a no-cost serious benefit.

#23 You made me chuckle; thanks!

As a user of both Windows and Linux, I can honestly say that not everything in Linux-land is Open Source and/or free. The vast majority is, but not everything. I've spent several hundred dollars on commercial Linux software.

Personally, I WOULD be interested in seeing Linux applications offered, but doubt that would happen on this portal due to the relatively small market.

Maybe the GotD team would consider a Linux give away of the week? Doesn't really flow well with the concept of a daily giveaway, though.

Anyway, this program could be very useful to one maintaining a web site or ftp site. I am currently neither, so I'll pass this time.

Thank you very much for this excellent software; I needed it.

Any FTP software that doesn't offer synchronisation is not good enough for me to spend money on.
And most of the free ones do not offer this feature or simply attempt something close to it.
Those who do offer it, do not come cheap at all.

The FTP Synchronizer developers seem to have created a product that maximise this feature.
It makes file transfer et website update indeed much quicker and easier.

Easy setup and intelligent running: it offers filters setup, creates logs and updates files by folder tree so that you don't overwrite the same file by accident from a different directory in case both files have the same names.

Just a shame this version can only accommodate 5 profiles.

Still, congrats to them and thank you again to GOTD.

If you need a webhost, you can use 110mb.com. They give you ftp and browser upload, and no they don't give you 110mb of space, they give you 2000mb.

Don't shout at me - I know this program is free _today_. But SyncBack (from www.2brightsparks.com) is free everyday (and so will still be free after your machine goes down and you need to reinstall ;-)), and can sync to FTP servers as easily as to any local media. All your sync/backup needs in one place. Plus command line operation, built-in scheduler, and drag-n-drop creation of shortcuts to individual sync/backup jobs. Does it for me every time.

If you are interested in free linux software there's this whole "new" revolution that's sweeping the land called Open Source Software. You should really check it out :rollseyes

This site has always offered Windows software. Not one piece of linux software has been offered here to the best of my knowledge. Especially considering the huge number of OSS that's out there.

Looks good and simple--I have a number of people who need to be able to update their sites but have little idea of how things work. This may be perfect.

Yes, there are other more flexible ftp clients, but they tend to confuse some people. This won't do that.

Thanks GOTD.
