I download and unzip the program. I "activated" (and received confirmation from gaotd). When I "install", I am told that it is a trial version only good for 15 days. I've never had a problem loading goatd programs before. What am I doing wrong?
Installing "Watermark Factory"

You install the app first.
You then close it when done.
You then activate by clicking activate file and allowing your firewall to all inward and outward communication with the server.
You then get 'activated', then you close the activation file.
All the activation file does in this case writes to your registry, giving you a username and registered (serial) number. This case all it gives you is a serial no username.
Then you're done.
I would hurry and sort it out as I have been playing around with it and it's very good indeed, hope they allow their batch watermark video out for a give away also.
This is to me the best app I have yet to get from here.

I followed those instructions but when I click activate the small window comes up with "Connecting..." and before I can read the rest it stops, closes and opens the Activation Successful URL.
Is that a firewall issue?

Ahhh. I think I have it figured out. I was doing everything correctly, but the liscense information box that comes up starts by describing the trial version and then goes on to talk about the registered version. They cover both versions with the one message box and I didn't read down far enough. Since the "activation" process did not give me a registration number to enter, I thought I wasn't getting one at all, but when I go through the whole process I see that it never asks for one.
Thanks for the help

I have seen it's key in the registry it's not as obvious as one would think.
Well dennisa as long as you installed the app first, closed it then get activation succesful after running activation.exe then it's registered.
Open the program click on the '?' in the right hand side, it will display 'Registered User' without quotes, if registered.

I followed the instructions in the readme file which state: Unzip the package you`ve downloaded and run the activation program Activate.exe which is included in the package, then run Setup.exe to install the software."
That is why I had the problem. I have since run activation and am now registered.

Yes, it's a bit odd that order is written.
The unzip also is a bit odd also, unless you open the zip or rar in a viewer to read; the read me file.
I always decompress with win rar by right click and selecting, 'extract to'.
I might email admin and ask them to change the stance.
Might be more helpful.

Lee,
I find it interesting that you say to install first and then activate. You seem to have been consistent with your prefered order throughout. I always follow the order in the readme file (and I always read the file in case there is any deviation from previous downloads)and I have never had any installation problems.
I am curious to know why you advocate the reverse order to that usually stated in the readme file, rather than the "official" order.Posted 17 years ago # -
Why, because it works for me.

I installed the program and now am lost. when I double-click on the icon, I have the choice of: Try Now, Register, Enter Code, or Exit.
I have looked in the folder for a readme.txt file and see none. I don't see activate.exe either?
Help! And thanks, in advance....
DUH!! Never mind,..I was looking in the PROGRAM folder and not the UNZIP folder! Found it...all is well now!

I have never had a problem following instructions in readme.txt to run activate.exe first and install the software after. Not one installed as unregistered using that very procedure. Everyone to whom I have emailed links to this site has not had one problem either.
But I have noticed it doesn't always work for some posters here and in comments. For those users closing the installed program and running activate.exe a second time seems to work. If that has been your experience then follow Lee's advice to install first, activate second. Probably differences in configuration or other programs running in the background that causes activating before installing to not work for some.

@LadyGodiva - agree.
I just installed Watermark Factory, first running activate.exe followed by setup.exe.
Runs fine (on XP SP2).
Originally the suggestion IIRC to change the order to Activate then Setup was due to the people who were having problems - they were still running the giveaway software while trying to activate (at the same time), or the program hadn't closed, but simply reduced to an icon in the system tray.
By Activating first - there was no chance that the giveaway software would already be running in memory (or the system tray). Additionally this would also bypass any "confusing" registration or "enter code" screen on startup, if the program detected that it had already been activated.
But I am sure there are probably at least a dozen different ways and combinations that inventive GOTD users can come up with to get a giveaway working (unless of course you are unfortunate enough to be running Windows Vista) :P
As Lee said, "Why, because it works for me".
