Just want to warn people about this program, including the recent 9.5 release.
I was making the snapshot of system drive, only 40 gigs, and then it finished and said it needed to restart to complete process, I clicked ok, and that was the end of my computer.
never came back, all I get is the blinking cursor at top left, cant get into safe mode, or last known config
F-1 setup comes up but it says no hdd .
so in trying to back it up I killed it . I read that goodto go had a similar problem so something is wrong with this software.
I am now on older funky computer. thanks to paragon and gaotd.
I think gaotd should test this stuff before giving away.
Paragon system backup 2010 ruined my computer !

I never had a drive disappear- but if the startup logo hides the detect or mem check try tab or F1 to clear it, then probably delete or f2 to enter the bios.
the install/drivers may have set up the boot process to eat itself partway (it did mine) and a brand logo would hide that.
which is why I build my own systems and turn logos off.
it may be booting partway and going spastic. doesn't sound like you have a dual boot os to fall back on.
and it did it to me when I tried to remove it, not at install.
an autodetect these days is 'auto' or 'on', without a separate top-level entry in the bios- or a manual override- but if it's older (not that old) enough to have a drive detect entry in the bios, use it. 40 gig hdd says perhaps. if it ain't a laptop.
more info please. and say hi to yer mom.

ok I fixed the computer by using a bart pe disk which allowed me to see the drive , and I was able to get into sys 32 folder and use hp sys restore.
I lost no data but have to reinstall all the apps even though they are still there.
the problem was the mbr was invalid or not present.
I wasnt installing the program I was using it to do a snapshot backup, which was supposed to be a ongoing backup after I made the snapshot. it made the snapshot, asked for a restart, I clicked ok and after that all I got was a black screen with blinking cursor at top left. safe mode and boot floppys would not work, all the f keys did nothing but get me to boot order or bios, and I dont know enough about bios to mess with that.
I am 95 % sure the program did something to my mbr.
I should have made a recovery cd first, but with no mbr not sure if it would have helped. so now I am going to avoid paragon stuff, and not install new programs as much as I was.Posted 13 years ago # -
any program that does backups would have to make a record of your mbr [master boot record] and somehow mine was messed up or deleted or relocated.
the paragon support people told me to use their recovery cd to restore the mbr, which makes me think they know about this issue, that it can sometimes happen.
the thing is you wont hear about it as anyone it happens to wont have a computer to post with unless they have more than one computer.
I went for years with no problems, then started installing these free programs, from gatod, and then had this happen, it was quite distressing.
so if your going to install alot of programs, make sure you have your system backed up good. I am going to avoid new installs till i can properly back up my c drive.Posted 13 years ago # -
There is a trick to using this program. First, you make the recovery cd and never us the main program again while in main operating system (for HD back up). Always boot into the cd and make HD back up from there. Some programs conflict (Who is the boss?) when in main operating system. Discovered this after much frustration and playing a hunch. Maybe others have gotten it to work without it being buggy in main operating system, I didn't. This accidental discovery made it a sweet program. Oh, HD re-installation goes the same way. After in recovery and it goes threw it's loading, eject recovery cd and replace with back up hd and proceed to one click recovery from there. lol, Am brave now and if mess up computer can go back to Sweet,Sweeter and this is so Cool state in about 25 minutes or less. Hope this helps.

There shouldn't be any conflicts if you're just reading the contents of the hard drive and not trying to work on anything at the same time. Nevertheless, operating in Safe Mode or with the recovery CD is recommended for a full system backup.

well, I finally got rid of mine- downloaded the trial and used it as an uninstaller- didn't remove all, but at least I could move/nuke the rest without xp dying on me.
