Make sure that you read the readme.txt and followed all of the instructions. This is definitely not a scam. I have not personally downloaded it, but if there is a activate.exe, make sure you run that also (while the program is not running). It may require you to register with the developer online, but I don't think it does today.
And it is definitely not a scam. There are many of us that have been faithful for years now...(I am just over 2 years)Posted 14 years ago # -
Hi Clord, the GOTD site is genuine, and all software offered here is also genuine.
As "thenameipicked" rightly pointed out, you must read all instructions and guidance very thoroughly and carefully to understand what you must do to download and install the software correctly, so that it activates properly.
In all cases, if there is an "activate.exe" file provided with the program, you must always run the "activate.exe" file first - before you actually open/access/launch the downloaded program. Had you read my review yesterday, you would have known to do this, as I very clearly gave helpful guidance to everyone about this matter.
With that said, now you know what to do next time you install a program from GOTD.

Hi, clord, welcome to the forums.
No, GOTD is definitely no scam; otherwise it wouldn't be here all the years.
You have to activate the software in time (the 24 hour window). And you may not update a GOTD programme, otherwise it will revert to a trial.
Reg-cleaners can also break an activation.
The advice HappyPerson gave is a rule of thumb, but not always a must. I prefer to activate before set-up. When you encounter problems with the activation, just play around and find the way your system likes best. Under Vista some programmes need higher rights, than you should do the set-up, the activation and the first launch with the right-click-administrator.More luck with your next GOTD.

Well, at least you were able to open it. When I tried to download 1AVCapture, I got error messages saying the file could not be found. I am getting the same message today when I try to download WinUtilities. I have not had this problem before with your site and I don't have this problem with other sites.
Any thoughts?

Hi, I downloaded 1AVCapture and it seemed to be working fine. However, when I try to open it now a pop up message appears which says "Error at Read Current LangIni0 Reinstall to solve this problem" This may be a problem with the software or my PC but does anyone have any ideas how I can solve this? Obviously if I reinstall it can't be activated because it is too late as the offer is closed.
Can this be cured or have I lost this software?Posted 14 years ago # -
Strange as it is, I tried using this software but what I get was 'Your Trial Period has Expired'. It worked for the first time but not anymore now. IS GAOTD aware of this? OR is this a Scam by PCWinsoft? How do I get it work without getting the pop-up message asking me to purchase/register?
Thanks

Hi Serenity.
I had completely forgotten I installed that program...
But yes, over here it still says "registered to Giveawayoftheday".
When I launched the program there was a pop-up screen ,asking me to install 'a free update'
Didn't want to push my luck installing that one though,...did you?If you didn't, my guess is 1AVCapture wasn't properly activated on that particular giveawayoftheday date or...some program did mess up the registry.
In that given case you could try using system restore.

huh. just tried it myself, and get an error box reading
"Error at ReadUScreenFromRegistry()
Reinstall to solve this problem"and I don't *use* registry cleaners etc. real strange. I'll have to dig out and look at my notes from that program's install session and see if anything's changed. although I will have to figure out if it was installed before or after Paragon System Backup, which pillaged my system when I tried to remove it.
(I *still* haven't figured out how to get the dang thing gone- I blocked the startup services, but it's still playing Sword of Damocles out on my X: partition.)

Well I have this program from GOTD. I just opened it and was offered the free update but I ignored it and told it not to check for updates anymore. For me it is still registered and working fine. SO the giveaway was fine, perhaps there is an issue on your end. Also, as said you do not get free updates with a giveaway (even though in this particular software it said a free update was available). The best you can do is buy the program or wait around until it is offered again.

<shrug> wasn't yarping, just reporting- haven't used it, so it's a null issue for me. I have other ways to do what it was for, and rarely need any.
