I set up an account on Steam when I was pointed there by the recent offer from Bundle Stars of 10 HOPAs.
However, I don't know how to find any similar offers - do I simply have to keep Googling or are there sites that are well-known and safe that have either freebies or special offers?
There are several websites with lists of sales, bundles and freebies.

Thank you, Graylox. These look interesting, but maybe a bit complicated! I'll have to investigate their sites further.
Of course you can always fine-tune the Steam search engine of the Steam client or the website, to find what you want.
A good help for the Steam website is
if you use Chrome or Firefox.
However, you'll find the lowest prices mostly on the different bundle sites.
