This is just an idea but have you tried control, alt, delete to bring up task manager and stop it that way.As for uninstall CCleaner does a good job of it.

A good piece of software for killing anything is "Kill Process". It's very small, free and 100% effective but just make sure you know what your "Killing". LOL
Google it and download.

hello, awase...
the default for Returnil is "System Protection is currently OFF" (green shield showing) on boot...did you try a reboot to see if the default started again?...then you can right-click the shield & choose "Exit"...
running MS Disk Cleanup caused Returnil to stop functioning properly for me...the solution that worked in my case was to download Returnil---i d/l from Major Geeks ( http://majorgeeks.com/Returnil_Virtual_System_Personal_Edition_d5702.html )---install over the Giveaway Returnil, reboot...and it was fixed...
hope this helps...

Violet
Just out of curiosity, did the reinstall preserve whatever you had previously stored on Returnil's virtual drive? Thanks.Posted 14 years ago # -
Awase, just in case you didn't manage to uninstall Returnil by now:
To uninstall Returnil:
1)Turn OFF system Protection if it is ON!
(Open Returnil and set protection mode to OFF)
Uncheck mount 'virtual drive'REBOOT
2) Deactivate the Protection Scheduler if it is ON!
(Open Returnil, select Other Settings-uncheck the Enable the System Protection
Scheduler option).3) QUIT the program if running!
(right click the RVS Tray Icon - select “Quit Program”
or use taskmanager to end the program4)Uninstall the program
(Start Menu- Select the Uninstall link of Returnil-you will also have
a repair option)5)If this still doesn't work reinstalling Returnil as Voilet suggested might do the trick and give you an option to uninstall and delete the virtual partition too.
(otherwise you'll still have about 4 gigs of 'wasted' space on your drive)To delete the Virtual partition manually:
Open the hidden folder C:\Returnil (you'll need to turn on the option to see hidden files in Explorer)
Delete the RVSYSTEM.img file.Posted 14 years ago # -
Robert, you cannot imagine HOW grateful I am to you for explaining how to get the missing 4gb back on my c: drive. Thank you so very much. I was extremely worried about the very low space I had on the drive and now it has doubled. Wonderful.

hi, RM...
sorry i'm unable to answer your question...
i usually have Returnil System protection off, unless i'm trying software before installing...the other feature i use often is the ability to right-click & save selected item (in my case, usually just a file/folder or two) to hard disk...
IIRC...it seemed Disk Cleanup somehow compressed the Returnil drive, as if it was unused files/folders...i won't even try a best-guess there...

I used ccleaner to remove it from the start up menu and was able to uminstall it.

NolafromNZ,you're welcome!
I am glad I could help you.RunesageMagik,
If the RVSYSTEM.img file is still present ,it will be recognized by any new installation of Returnil.Posted 14 years ago # -
