I have a mystery. My netbook has a restricted resolution of max 1024x600, so not all games will work on it. In fact most will not. (Many of Alawar's games do). So I download each game giveaway to test on my netbook, the most recent being Heroes of Hellas 2. It worked great, I signed in, then closed it down since I didn't have time to play it.
Tonight I decided to play it. The game has completely disappeared from my netbook!
Since I use a program that installs and logs the installation, I looked and it shows it installed. Just to be sure, I opened the log to see where the files were installed, went there, but the game is gone!
My desktop PC has had games disappear as well, since I install the ones that don't work on my netbook there. I didn't pay much attention then since I had a bug that caused me to restore to an earlier time.
It's only the GOTD games, not the software. It seems to have started when I installed Tweakbit, which I then purchased. But I can't say for sure if that's the cause.
Anyone got any ideas about this?
Why do games I install disappear from my computer?

It sounds like you're installing in a "Sandbox" and the new stuff disappears when you reboot.

Mystery Solved? We shall see.
Interesting theory Chris! I do know that my Avast program will "run" a program in a sandbox atmosphere if it feels threatened by it. And it usually pops up a message for you to allow or deny that type of run. But I think I have the mystery solved.
My installer software seems to "hang on" to previous logs of installs even after you've uninstalled. Apparently, I did uninstall that game but it still showed until I reset the cache of my installer program.
Don't know why the game didn't work since a search shows it listed in my "Acer Games", a link for downloading.
Ah well, thanks for the input.Posted 9 years ago #
