The last two times I've tried to install, activate, and run programs from Giveaway of the Day (most recently the Audio Converter)I get a message that the file GDIPLUS.DLL is missing. An earlier post refers to a Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB895994 titled "The Project Assistant in InstallShield Express 5.0 does not include the Visual FoxPro 9.0 redistributable files" which says that "An application that was created by using Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 is installed on a computer that does not have Visual FoxPro 9.0 installed." No doubt this is true, but I don't know how to fix that, and the included links suggest that this is a developer, not user, issue. Any guidance? Preferably before today's download expires? Thanks.

Its a long-shot, but downloading and installing http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6a63ab9c-df12-4d41-933c-be590feaa05a&displaylang=en.
Then try reinstalling the program. I hope this works, but no guaruntees.Posted 17 years ago # -
Thank you, Pathanos. I think I'm making progress though I've replaced one error message with yet another. I downloaded the GDIPLUS package and unziped it. As the included Microsoft readme file states for systems other than XP (I'm running ME), I put the file GDIPLUS.DLL into the program's folder, not the system folder. This time when I tried to run the Audio Converter, I got a new error message: "Microsoft Layer for Unicode failed to initialize. Please reinstall." Hmm..I tried reinstalling Audio Converter from its unzipped install file. According to Install Shield, that went fine, but we I tried to execute the program I got the "Unicode failed to install.." error again.

Ironic. Okay, try downloading this. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=73BA7BD7-ED06-4F0D-80A4-2A7EEAEE17E2&displaylang=en
Hopefully that'll fix something.Posted 17 years ago # -
Thank you once again, Pathanos. The addition of the two dll's (gdiplus.dll and unicows.dll) to the program directory did it. That probably would have also worked for the Document Converter giveaway program where I first encountered the problem, but it is too late to activate that one now. Easy come, easy go, I guess. Thank you again for your help. My attempts to search the Microsoft Knowledge Base on my own before posting in the forum were not successful.

An easy way to find dlls is on http://www.dlldump.com
I haven't found a virus in the database yet (but then I have only used this some 3-4 times)
And they claim not to have viruses, too.

No problem kapecki, you're welcome. Also, http://www.dlldump.com is a very good site, as MASA said.

Thanks. I'll add both sites to my list. That said, I really wouldn't have known that those dll's were AWOL had not Pathanos kindly referred me to the specific KBs. From reading Microsoft's docs on GDIPLUS I'm guessing that that at least that dll is already accessible in the system folder for XP and that perhaps the posted download had not been tried in Win 98/ME/2000 (where the KB sats it should be in the program's folder). Whether that's also a reasonable guess for unicows I don't know as the KB for that item didn't illuminate.
I've been doing this stuff for more years than I care to think about, but I learn something new every day.

I am not computer savvy but I had a similar problem of dgiplus.dll missing. I could not even open my itunes library and other programs. I looked for this file online, downloaded it and copied it to C://windows/systems32. Since then I have never experienced any problem
