This program doesn't seem to want to close either from the usual "x" or right-click in the task bar and "close". Seem to have lost the tray icon to get to the settings as well, presumably because the "x" sends it there and it doesn't seem to work. Have to close it from Task Manager.

Installation makes very few changes to Windows. Icons not showing up, going missing from the system tray [notification area] part of the taskbar are somewhat common OTOH, & that's where closing the WiseCare window should send it. Google with your version of Windows, e.g. win7 icon missing notification area [that gets 3 million+ hits BTW].

Sorry. Should have said it is fully-updated XP I am still running. I do know about vanishing tray icons - still a very common problem even now. A never fully-fixed bug it would seem but the WiseCare one just didn't want to show up after the initial start-up on any of the three machines I tried it on, so couldn't get to the settings again, as I couldn't see anything in the main window to do that. Only saw them once from the tray icon after a right-click and thereafter the icon seemed to be permanently missing, although task manager showed it as running, along with the main program. Looking at the comments on the main page, I am not the only one to have had this problem. It's rather a moot point now, as I ended up doing a system restore, to be on the safe side, and the give-away is no longer available. Pity, as it seemed to have potential.

There are quite a lot of free alternatives for this sort of app -- usually the comments on the main, GOTD offers page have several listed, so might want to search for past system utility offers. I don't recommend the site itself -- their *news* articles too often [usually?] bear no resemblance to the source they're allegedly based on -- but the Software section of neowin.net often lists similar apps, with new software appearing daily as it's released/updated.

Wouldn't mind some of that rain here in much of the US -- Google Images "arizona dust storm" for some incredible pics from last week.
