   I was going to downlaod today's offering, a DVD ripper from Tipard.com, but first I googled the site. In Firefox, the Web Of Trust add-in gave it a red warning desigantion. A number of people claim that Tiprad.com is involved in spreading malware. I cannot verify such claims, which can be found here

   (I hope this can be accessed by peoiple not using this add-in).

   They do however give me pause.

   I originally posted a version of this comment on today's offering page, but for some reason it was not published.

   I also find it odd that the offering page states that 482 people gave this product positive reviews in the three hours that it has been available, but there is only one actual cooment -- which is from the developer.

   I don't wish to sound alarmist, but I thought I'd share this with people, who will make up their own minds.

   Hi, lingyai, welcome to the forums.

   You may rest assured, that the zip container you download from GOTD is free of malware.

   Otherwise there is evidence, that this developer tried to tamper with the voting in the past. And they are known for forum spamming.
   Every time we get a software from them, we have a discussion about this.
   I don't think, your comment is censured due to your remarks.
   It's Sunday, even for the volunteer moderators, I think your comment is still waiting in the moderation queue, none is published by now. That's typical for weekends.

   There are still lots of users who eagerly take any DVD-software, even if it resembles the last 50 we got.
   But there are also lots of users, who, like you (and me) try to get some info about the developer and don't take every programme they can get - as long as it is freeee.

   Not every GOTD is a gem - but they never had any virus or malware (well, sometimes you have to look out for toolsbars etc...)

   More luck next time.

   FWIW & if it helps build any confidence with/for GOTD, I monitor the install & running of most every GOTD offer & have yet to see a malware problem.

   As far as any sites &/or developer behavior goes, & hoping this doesn't sound too terribly cynical, I feel most of the western, big name companies are just more polished, e.g. where 1 company might post bogus awards & favorable reviews, another buys ad space in a magazine &/or pays the writer to make sure they get the review they want.

   But the people writing the code aren't always the ones responsible for sales/marketing -- real life often mimics Dilbert :-) -- so bad behavior doesn't always mean bad software. While I agree 100% about not visiting *any* suspect web site [I've used the TOR browser in a VM when afraid I'm going into a really bad neighborhood], the beauty of GOTD is you don't ever have to.
