Sorry about the last comment, I was just mad that I searched for 10 hours straight for a discount on RealmCrafter online, and I came here and got into an outrage when I found out you don't have it, yet.

I don't normally like screensavers, but decided to try this one of the fireplace after seeing the graphics on their site. I love watching logs burn in a fireplace, but hate the clean-up afterwards!

Pro
- It's nice and soothing to watch
- Gives me a nice break from work, especially when feeling stressed

Con
- Without the "hot air streams simulation", the background stonework tends to flicker, and once in a while it just goes black. However, with the simulation on, it works fine. Weird, I would have thought the opposite would be true...
- Price. I wouldn't pay $15 for this.

Final Word: It's a keeper, and I'll be looking at some of their other screensavers if they're offered here. Thanks, GOTD and 3PlaneSoft!

I forgot to add my rating. I give this screen saver 9 out of 10. Thank you very much GAOTD. and software maker. I really wish we had these screensavers more then once a week though. I like em and it upsets the cry babies. I'm not sure which I like better, the crybabies or the free software.
Nah! screen savers anyday. You guys are the best at GAOTD. 10 out of 10 for you guys.

So you computer nerds and geeks don't like screensavers, huh? Well, some of us normal folks don't have anything else to do with our PCs except watch them. Isn't that what a computer if for?

I personally LOVE LOVE screen savers so much I think they should be renamed soul savers because after a hard day's work in the mines diggin up kryptonite many of us gremlins need the soothing warmth of a fireside in our PCs.

So get with the program nerds - even you have souls - enjoy computers for non-intellectual reasons and give your over-sized brains a rest! And if you can't do that then give your mouths a rest and stop complaining about screensavers and microsoft.

Don't! I mean DON'T use this screensaver !! The settings window is defective !! The thermostat does not work right.

THIS FIREPLACE JUST BURNT MY HOUSE DOWN...& I'M GONNA SUE !!

At first I just thought the crackling sounds were from the fireplace.
(until the flames started leaping from my monitor)

This is one really HOT program and won't touch it again with a 10ft pole!

Any way, just teasing... (my monitor is a little warm though).
Have no idea how the prog. works just hought I'd say hi & to keep up the great work GAD (just teasing again....GOATD)

Hi everybody,
I like the Fireplace 3D Screensaver and for sure I'll enjoyed it the next winter (now in Italy it's Springtime).
I got more then 100 screen savers and...

in one folder (I named "Effects") on the desktop I put the shortcuts (look for the files with extention .scr in the Windows folder and in its subfolder: System32) of those I like the best, this way I can start the one I choose at the moment with just a double click...

or if you drag the folder "Effects" and leave it on the (let's say) right desktop's border SURPRISE you'll got a bar whith the screen savers one click away!! tell me about it.

I was looking for a screensaver I used 7 years ago at work and I finally find it in an Italian link, if somebody else is still searching it: http://www.wintricks.it/dloadhtml/dload3.html#enhancemets

Bye Bye and Thanks to GOTD, Frank

Downloads fine. Installed okay. It's way to dark to make out the details and sorry but if you have to brighten your screen settings for the sake of the screen saver then you've really lost it. For one thing the idea is that it kicks in when you're not around so who is going to brighten the screen and for another...it's meant to prevent burn-in which is more likely to happen if there's a stationary BRIGHT image.

It's a pic of a fireplace, a couple pieces of wood and flames. That's it. The sound loop is way to small and doesn't really add to the realism. Nor is there anything really happening with the wood as far as I could notice so that leaves a bit of flame effects. Not to badly done but nothing to really gasp either. The little sparks and hot air flows are a nice addition but all in all... nothing that really catches my eye.

The price of 14.95 is again somebodies plot to make easy money of simple people that will pay anything asked and of which some even ask to raise the price.

#46 "...as we prepare for those endless swealtering 95 degree Ohio nights."
Be glad you're that far north. I'm in Austin, Texas! Multi 3-digit degree days coming up soon. But I love it here!
#65 "more cool screensavers"
As in not hot? Me too. I'm more a waterfall or pond kinda person, too.
#86 Put on the screensaver with the lights off. Maybe you can make him believe for a moment that his big LCD TV has been stolen (or that the wall is on fire).

But seriously,
#78" "I’d be very pleased if you can talk Astonshell into allowing their 3D desktop shell to be offered again. I’d really like to try it out and missed it the first time around."

I know this topic should go into a forum, but I've seen it there, along with a few other excellent suggestions, with no response. Repeating some of the most popular giveaways is an excellent idea, if the software mfgrs would do this. I've seen Moderators respond in the forums, but no one who seems to have the authority do take action on good suggestions. Why no response? Think I'll start a Forum topic on that.

#13, yes, there are lot of free screensaver but the good one? I doubt there's a good freeware screensaver..most of the 3d freeare screensaver have an average if not, terrible graphic. Here 3plane soft make it very professional, and that's why it cost for a fee. And you should thanks GAOTD and 3planesoft for giving it away. Unlike the other kind of software, I think screensaver will unlikely be updated to newer version..thus, no lose taking the "final version" commercial software for free, right?

It is true that if you want to save ur screen, u can just turn of the monitor. However, today's screensaver is more for enjoyment. It's an art. Like the other art as well, if it's not good enough, it's undeserved to be enjoyed =)

#53, make sure that you don't have your video driver set to override the application settings. With my driver, I get the same problem if anti-aliasing is set in the driver.

#74, registry "cleaners" do more harm than good, and Diskeeper isn't a very good disk defragmenter.

@ 47 Zeon
Not sure what your viewing, but I see plenty of realistic sparks as a result of the wood crackling etc.. The visual even matches time with the sound effects! Go into 3D-Fireplace SS settings and push the 'Gamma' slider all the way to the right, increasing it to it's maximum. That may help. If not or very little, try turning up the contrast a bit and/or the brightness of your monitor itself in small increments so as not to off-set the rest of your systems visual appeal/level. If these suggestions don't work, other than tweaking your actual PC color settings in 'desktop properties', which I don't recommend unless you know what your doing or have the option of resetting to default, you may need to consider updating your video driver(s) if you haven't lately. If the contrast/darkness is a system wide issue, than you may want to consider replacing your video card or (God forbid) your monitor itself. Just some thoughts. Hope these suggestions help.

@ 40 Kevin LOL! Sarcasm or not, funny comment! Are you having visions of the ultimate "Melt-Down"?!

Leave these 3D SS's running constantly for long periods @ 100% CPU usage and ...well, anythings possible. :o I recommend a couple hours or less (give or take) 'once in a while' at best. Daily extended exesive use will take it's toll on the CPU, eventually deteriorating it's life expectancy for the average users PC. 'Worst case scenario' would likely be premature CPU damage, but used with some sense at random times shouldn't result in a "Melt-Down". Just don't run off in a hurry for the afternoon/evening or leave it running all night and leave the fire burning. ;) Most serious gamers would likely be exempt, as they have invested in high end systems with above average cooling system hardware to compensate for possible heat damage from pushing the CPU to it's limits for long periods regularly.

3D Fireplace SS:
A very nice cozy SS with excellent sound effects. Installed and registered without issue. Graphics are very good and realistic as fireplace SS's go. I fail to understand why the FPS (Frames Per Second) on screen display 'option' was included because there's no apparent adjustment for it. I would like to see the gamma option with a higher level of adjustment for increased detail of the background fireplace interior (say 3 instead of 2). I use an nVidia video card with 256MB vram and a 300Mhz on-board dedicated video processor with the latest drivers installed, and the interior of the fireplace is still just a little too dark for proper glow effect. The interior of the fireplace looks hugely over sized in proportion compared to the fire size and flame hight/glow with the gamma slider at it's highest setting of 2 IMO. 'Hot air streams simulation' is interesting, but a bit over the top for me. Almost like looking across a desert, and not very realistic at the normal viewing distance one would see sitting around a real fire of this size. Personally 3Dplanesoft, I think you should tone it down just a little bit. Best crackling fire audio I think I've ever heard for a fire scene on a computer at low volume, yet too much white noise at higher volume to give that 'fill the room sound' IMO on my 4 point surround w/sub PC speaker system through my SoundBlaster 5.1 Live audio card.

Overall a very nice SS, and definitely a keeper. I give it a 7 of 10 rating. A worthy dwnld if you like the ambiance and sound of a crackling fire in a fireplace.

Thanks to 3DPlanesoft for offering the SS, and GAOTD for posting it for our enjoyment.

GAOTD/Slava Got any good CG design software you can post for us? I'd be very pleased if you can talk Astonshell into allowing their 3D desktop shell to be offered again. I'd really like to try it out and missed it the first time around. The one day I couldn't be here for the GAOTD offering. Thanks.
