While there was an issue of receiving the registration code on the day of GOTD release, I sent a support message to FileMarker.net. They contacted me the next day and made sure I had a full serial code and the program download link.

There are several Folder Markers that are free.
This software works with individual Files.
Now why would Source Forge and Open Source programmers not create a free software to mark individual Files?
Because it would interfere with your file management.
As you know, if you associate a file extension with a software, then that software icon will be shown for the relevant file.
For example my Text files all have icons that are associated with Editpad Lite. Likewise, my PDF files are shown with the icons associated with Sumatra.
Now why would you want to mess with this and add your own colour and image markers.

Can one add an image to a color Folder Marker? Many files I have do contain a photo/image on its' folder that I've put on.

It depends on what they mean by "trial" version.
First we have this:
"Purchasing FileMarker.NET, you get a lifetime license to use the CURRENT version of the program as long as you want on one computer by one user. Additionally, you get 1 year of free upgrades. "
Then a little farther down the page we see this:
"It means the period of free updates for your license is expired, and the program works in the trial mode (i.e. without any license)."
So if trial version means just no updates after one year I am cool with that but if I lose functionality then that is another matter.
I am fine with the GOD's that do not include updates after 6/12 months or whatever time period but having the program go stupid not so much.
I probably end up purchasing ~10% of the ones I download but if the program is going to go dead on me altogether I do not even bother any longer unless the program looks like it might solve a serious problem rather than just nice to have.

I have nothing but good stuff the say regarding my experience with this app.
I lost the last version in a hard drive crash and was about to buy it outright before this deal came along.
For someone with lots of files and folders on a 2 tb drive, it makes finding files a lot easier for a visually oriented person like me who has many projects in operation simultaneously.

I am asking because if I were to use this on my business files would I have to mark my calendar that my file system could change by a year from today and then rush to make the correction or rush to "BUY" the product. What if we want to test it? Will our files system become "at risk" that we won't be able to move files and change the icons accordingly?

Roman, seems not, you just cannot get new upgrades for the software. You can still use the one you have installed in the version it last was updated (should probably desactivate manually updates when one year deadline is close...)

FileMarker.NET doesn't change your files, it only customizes how they look in your system. So in the worse case, you will have the same view you have now without FileMarker.NET.
I don't see here any risk for you.
