GOSH ... [ At time of posting with 3 hours until expiry currently rating at only 49% FOR, & 51% AGAiNST ]

... Take Note fellow GOTD followers this appears to be one of very few programs that appears to be rating under 50%, since GiveawayOfTheDay.com made big changes to their website in mid 2015.

... You may remember the good old days when somebody could post a comment or reply and that posting was numbered in sequence from 1 thru to 100 or more)

... recently I was starting to think that the people behind GOTD had 'redesigned' (read as rigged), the new website so that it was impossible for a program to rate less than 50%!

... It looks as though all of the user ratings - since the big mid 2015 changes, are genuine after all - I'm glad about that.

what do you think?

Fast PC Tools:

When I reboot Windows the 1st thing I see, staring at me from center of the screen, is a box telling me I can clean my browser (no mention of what the browser is it is talking about) or I can select "proceeded your own risk". There is nothing staring at me saying what is about to be cleaned. If I select the box on the right - "clean browser" - perhaps if I dig deep in a menu someplace I might find some hint of one of the things being clean as you state. What about those 21 add-ons that it offers to clean? Are they likewise identified?

One thing that I am not able to clean from my browser myself, the Yahoo search engine that has set itself up as a default even though it is not even listed in "Internet options" is not mentioned. To what extent must I go to blast the Yahoo search engine out of its position. Can your program do that?

I am not trying to be argumentative but point out what I and others see as a lacking feature in the program.

Do not automatically start with Windows without first asking permission.

Users should not be greeted with a warning "proceed at your own risk". That is exactly what users have been doing prior to installing the browser cleaner. The user may prefer to clean his browser at a more suitable time than the opening of Windows.

Users should be presented with a list of items to be cleaned before commencing a cleaning process.

Marc Carbetta,
Your antivirus is probably detecting GAOTD setup.exe.
It should be considered as false positive.
Hence disable your AV just for the installing time, if you still want to install the software.
I think you'll be getting this problem on all the giveawaies...
By the way, what antivirus are you using?

Hi Alexa (and all)! :-)

Pro: This software finds something ccleaner, kcleaner, wise disk cleaner, kerish doctor, glary disk cleaner don't find

Cons:
- it doesn't have MS Edge support
- it didn't detect firefox x64 46.0 (and the portable browsers I have got, but this could be normal)
- Temporary files could be automatically cleaned with the browser itself, on exit: MSIE11 and firefox have this feature, chrome doesn't have it (or is it well buried in its advanced settings?)
- It is available only in English
- it costs too much (20 dollars?). Maybe 5 dollars could be a better price.
- Adware and toolbars are already found by well known free tools (adwcleaner, junk removal tool and so forth): does this software do a better job? If not, remove this feature; if yes, keep improving it (and a list of adware this software can remove would be welcomed on the website, at least)

My suggestion for the developer(s) of this software is to remove all those cons.

Hope this helps!

Reply   |   Comment by xilolee  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+17)

I forgot other cons, as other users have said; when FBC finds something:
- I can't open the file location to check what it is and the path where it is
- I can't export the results, for example in a text file on the desktop
- the options/settings menu should be MORE visible, possibly near the other well known buttons (minimise, maximise, close)

Reply   |   Comment by xilolee  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Sorry: and it probably doesn't have support for other minor browsers, even if I can't say to be 100% sure of it (because I haven't installed minor browsers actually).

Downloaded, installed and registered no problem. Doesn't let you see or select what it's deleting, no real control over what this software removes. after testing it still left some junk in my browsing history. Didn't detect any adware, but a scam with Malware found a few little sneaky adware pieces of crap ... Uninstalled.

From their site: "Fast Browser Cleaner is a utility to clean unwanted toolbar, addons, extensions. It helps you to clean cookies, history and temporary files... can also remove unprotected passwords and credit card information stored by the browser... "

As far as cleaning up leftovers it may be handy to make things easier but as others have posted it isn't absolutely necessary...

I started using Firefox years ago because it can be set to delete cookies, history, & temp files on exit. Internet Explorer can be set to behave similarly, but running Windows Disk Cleanup afterward still has ie temp files to delete. Chrome & ie have a separate dialog window where you can also delete that stuff. And ie, Chrome, Firefox, & Opera all have the option to open a new private [Chrome calls it Incognito] window.

There's also a portable version of many browsers at portableapps[.]com -- you can use them with their app launcher or not -- where they use the stricter version of portable, meaning nothing stays on the hard drive once you close it. The Tor Browser is a portable version of Firefox that also fires up the necessary software to get you connected via their network of proxies, while the dev version of Opera includes the option to use their free VPN.

I don't have any toolbars & such [knock wood I didn't just jinx myself] to be able to say that FBC got rid of them. Of course the best way to avoid anything getting written to the registry, files installed, &/or anything added by Flash etc. is to use one of the Time Freeze type virtualization apps or a VM, getting rid of the VHD used afterwards, or something along those lines... use VirtualBox & you can even change the MAC address, which can be recorded online & is normally used to ID the actual device -- each network adapter [in theory at least] has its own, unique MAC address.

Jeffery Gale, yea it came in an email ASAP have you checked your spam folder? maybe try sending for the key again. My issue with this program is you CAN NOT see what it wants to delete, there may be a file it finds you may want to keep but it wont let you see what is in that file. So based on this do you still want the program? Read others who have posted comments about how the program works then decide if you really want it or to use it.

Hi, just wasted good 2 hrs on this 'cookie'. First of all link given in 'Read me' file doesn't work in IE (tells page cannot be found) and what's more - Registration button in Software (yes, purchase one) takes you as far as PayPal, still showing this Software at full price(!!) Only using Chrome you'll find that link in Readme works, and 'purchase' takes you to Software showing '0' price, after which 'Thank you for taking interest' message appears, and ca 20 mins later Key arrives in junk box.

Tested Scan on both IE and Chrome and only in Chrome it found 1 Adware called 'Trovi'(by Conduit), rest of addons etc can be found in Internet settings, so nothing new there. Pressed 'Clean now' and the info appeared that it's cleaned and gone. REALLY??! On several new scans (restarting FastBrowserCleaner as if for the first time) STILL showing 'Trovi', STILL showing info that it's gone, and IT ISN'T!! USELESS. Un-In-Stalled!!. I was hoping to use this Program to get rid of 'AdChoices' this GOTD page is full of since 'few format' started, and even my normally useful AdMuncher cannot tackle this UTTER nuisance!!, oh well.. Any ideas out there Guys??

fran,

"I was hoping to use this Program to get rid of 'AdChoices'"

support[.]google.[]com/adsense/troubleshooter/1631343?hl=en
en.wikipedia[.]org/wiki/AdChoices

Using Google came up with those 2 [among others] -- seems to suggest it's something you opt out of but could be wrong of course. I don't see it in Firefox, though there I run ABP & have browsing set to private. I don't see it in Chrome, though there I run Privacy Badger.

"On several new scans (restarting FastBrowserCleaner as if for the first time) STILL showing 'Trovi',"

That one appears to be a bit nasty to remove -- one of those apps you have to uninstall plus remove leftovers as the uninstall is incomplete.

I'd post the link if it wasn't for sur.ly.

Hi, thanks for that Mike. As for 'AdChoices' I've been googling up help before I placed today's post here, and followed 2 of them, practically the same 'step-by-step' things (find that entry in Registry, nothing in my Registry found, next go to Programs and look for it, nothing there either in my case, OR find any Software that came with it, are they kidding??:)

Will try with 'Trovi' as You suggested, and off course I won't give up on main culprit 'AdChoices' that's driving me potty!! Might add comment at later date if I find cure. I'm so annoyed with AdMuncher thou.., in the past it worked on GOTD page like a charm! Thanks for Your links dear Mate.

Hi Guys, thank You so much for Your advice, links and all, very much appreciated!! AdwCleaner is a really useful (and portable!:) Tool to use and keep. Allows to examine everything properly (made a scan yesterday, but didn't want to make any hasty actions, especially with Registry list, but I like it!) Meantime logged in to Chrome with my Gmail settings (not my regular homepage, I still keep the same settings I had with once sweet iGoogle, remember?..) and altered adverts pop-ups, employing like Mike Privacy Badger. Sadly no changes viewing GOTD page:( So - through IE, or Chrome browsers - that page is still full of nasty AdChoices, grrhh.
In addition I did a full scan with Windows Defender and removed 3 positions there, they were not related to Items I'm trying to combat. On the whole - my laptop is really looked after pretty well and nasties kept at bay. I also don't visit any dodgy Sites, yet something gives..

Not wishing to discourage any developer, but it's baffling why today's appears to think there's a commercial future for this software when Piriform's long-established CCleaner mops up browser dross according to individual preference; Malwarebytes does pretty well with adware / malware; and Revo (for x32) and Geek (for x64) will at the click of a mouse display on-screen whatever has landed on your computer and uninstall it if you wish. All the above are free, as is real-time monitor WinPatrol, whilst Firefox, the browser I use, is set to automatically clean up after itself on exit. Maybe at $4.99 this "fast browser cleaner" might have a chance, but otherwise? Thanks, but no thanks.

Spent ages trying to find out where to register but to no avail.
Picked some innocuous item to clean and then pressed the button to clean it.
Now the registration window popped up, would have been nice if this can be explained in the README.

As a test decided to clean out some adware, it requested a reboot and I accepted, bad move!
When I opened one of my webpages which has information input by myself and which I hoped to keep and it was gone.
Note this with nothing to do with removing passwords.

It found quite a lot of items and could possibly be useful if it let me see what the items contained, but it doesn't.
Programs of this type can do more harm than good in that they lose information you have to re-input as it did with Adware.

To justify the price it does need to give more information about what is going to the removed and because of my experience with the loss of webpage information I will be removing it from my system.

Registration often causes problems even when relatively simple, my comment was just to clarifies matters.

On this site I keep my name and my e-mail address and after cleaning both of these have disappeared. As I only selected Adware and one other item that appeared innocuous I felt it best not to continue using the program.

It would be nice to clear out the clutter but I don't want to have to re-put information in again and sometimes it takes me ages to find it.
If we could see what was inside the various items to be selected it would be a great help.
Thanks for your comment, appreciated.

@Kiwi1960, CCleaner is great and I use it frequently - however this program seems to be leaning to cleaning adware, spyware, and other piece-of-crapware that you can pick up online without knowing it. I am currently using Malwarebytes to remove Malware.

I agree with @Tata - I refuse to "blindly trust" any program that wants to delete things off my computer without knowing what it is.

So unless Tata was incorrect about being able to view things to be deleted BEFORE deleting, I won't be trying this. It sounded good, but I can mess up my computer just fine on my own without allowing a program I'm not familiar with to do it for me.
