Ok....so I'm someone who usually ALWAYS backs up their files, especially my photos!! So you can imagine how my heart sank when I plugged in my older WD External Hard Drive to my Windows 10 PC and saw a lovely pop-up stating:
"This disk is not formatted. Do you want to format now?"
Windows said my WD drive was now "RAW!" Well, I quickly began to panic, wondering what I was going to do? I couldn't lose these files! (See this was no ordinary drive, it contained EVERY baby picture of both my daughters, plus the lightroom catalog which contained all the edits I had made over the years.)
I desperately tried anything and everything I could think, but was unsuccessful. No matter what I tried, Windows would just not recognize my drive. Wiping away the tears, I began to scour the internet for the best data recovery software. I needed something good! So, I searched countless tech sites and forums for the best software to help recover my files from this "RAW" hard drive.
Time after time, on almost every site I visited, EaseUS Data Recovery was recommended. Very wary or permanently destroying my hopes of destroying my drive., I went to www.easeus.com and located EaseUS Data Recovery. I downloaded their free edition to see how well their data recovery software would work (plus the Free Edition included FREE RECOVERY of 2GB of data!)
It took quite a while to scan my 2TB drive, but boy was it worth the wait!! EaseUS found ALL my files!! Now instead of tears of loss, I had tears of Joy!!
Needless to say ,I paid to upgrade my free version to a paid version (2GB just wasn't going to cut it in my case!). I was ecstatic to recover my files to a new drive.
With that said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EaseUS Data Recovery Software!! Whether you need to recover a few files or a few gigabytes of files EaseUS Data Recovery is a MUST! I had a Windows hiccup that scrambled filenames, rendering all my files irretrievable. I first tried other data recovery software to no avail. I then tried EaseUS Data Recovery Pro, that located and recovered 99% of the files in RAW format.
I spent time renaming files, but getting my file back was well worth the time!

Mike, yes it is.
As long as it's not caused by a physical damage, and it's not heavily over-written, there is great chance to get the data back.
I'd suggest you try the free version to see if any useful data can be found.
By the way, the free version helps to recover 2GB data for free.
