Installed the program, after launching the icon "Initialization "System.Windows.Controls.ListView" caused an exception" and the program doesn't start.
What is the cause and how can it be fixed?

Tori, Sorry, this version doesn't support Windows 7. We're launching a new version with the backward compatibility to Win7.

This is an exceptionally well-documented and well-planned tool. I am very impressed! I've been subscribed to GAOTD for well over a decade. In the beginning I used to see some useful software that I downloaded and used, but to be honest it has been a very long time since I found something that both seemed useful and appeared worthwhile without glitches, or poor programming methods, or lack of adequate documentation.

I'm happy that this proved to meet all three criteria.

Seriously, the documentation for the product is exceptionally helpful with both well written text and plenty of clear, relevant, useful screenshots. Very impressed.

It was easy to use and did its job very well.

Thank you to the DropInOut developers and documenters for providing such value.

I realize it's late in the day, but if you have considered installing this, do so now.

And if you are reading this review after the deadline, buy it. $19 for something so useful and well made is easily worth it.

This could be useful, but it's not ready for prime time. The previewer is nice but won't display Photoshop images. The "Size" sorts alphabetically instead of by file size. (So, 1kb is next to 1mb is next to 1gb, not what anyone sorting by size wants. I don't know if there are other design glitches, but this is enough for me. Back to Auslogics Duplicate File Finder for me.

DupInOut installed properly once I turned off Win 10 Pro Windows Security Ransomware Protection. I compared photos on a Microsoft OneDrive location to an ethernet connected WD My Cloud Mirror location. It found 2,744 duplicate files totaling 11.4 GB of storage in 5,584 files in 1hr 1min. It used very little resources on my processor which is a i7-6700 @3.40GHz with 32 GB of RAM. It did something I was not able to do before and I think it’s great.

Can you convert duplicate files to hard or symlinks of the first file? Sometimes I want to reference the same file in different directories but I don't want to take up the extra space.

Reply   |   Comment by Craig  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Craig, yes, you can do that! Just click on Fix Duplicates > Replace with Shortcuts. A new dialog will open as in this screenshot ( https://ibb.co/v3WVv0c ). Select your preferred shortcut name pattern and proceed.

Reply   |   Comment by DupInOut Support  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

DupInOut Support, that is a symlink, what about a hard link? Sometimes I put a hard link into my Onedrive to be backed up the file to the cloud but the original file needs to remain in its current location for an application to run. The downside of hard links is that they only work locally on a single drive, for example, a file on drive C: can not have a hark link on drive D:

The problem with Symlinks is, if you delete the target of the links, all the link files are broken.

This is not a full version. It is limited to 60 duplicate removals, and there is no obvious way to find the largest duplicate files in the thousands of tiny duplicates found--sorting file sizes does an alpha sort so 1GB is near 1KB. It is difficult to imagine a situatiion in whiich this program as delivered here is useful.

Reply   |   Comment by Ephraim Cowan  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Ephraim Cowan, You will need to wait 10-15 seconds for the activation status to update. If you're still seeing the Trial Mode with 60 duplicate groups limitation, closing and re-opening the program might help. If the problem continues to occur, drop a support email with your error log (About > Error Log).

The file size sorting issue has been noted.

DupInOut Support, you're right: the status changes after a few seconds to "This program is activated. Your License Key is BLA-BLA-BLA". But this means that the license is checked every time the application is launched?

Also: i exported the license details, is there a way to import it if the internet access is not working?

Reply   |   Comment by Luca Nonato  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Luca Nonato, No, Internet connection is NOT required for subsequent license checks. Giveaway expiration will not impact your licensing status. If you want, you can temporarily disconnect your Wifi and re-load the program. The program will still remain activated.

DupInOut Support,
Hi, as appreciable as your remarks have occurred, let me share my thought and say that I feel surprised to find that with a huge number of Win 7 users, who are not willing to move to Win 10 or 11 any time soon, you have produced and promot a softare piece (of type not at all unique in the virtual world), which is hardly usable under Win 7. Go figure why!
I hope your next product will be of more universal application. Cheers!

Marek, we deeply apologize for the inconvenience. Compatibility for Windows 7 is already on our cards and the next version will be an all-inclusive version with backward compatibility.

Very basic. Cannot choose any parameter like name, size, date, content ... Even the simple duplicater finder in the free CCleaner is better. Uninstalled.

Franky, we've deep respect for the makers of CCleaner. However, DupInOut Duplicate Finder is launched just a few months ago. We've taken note of the suggested features.

Reply   |   Comment by DupInOut Support  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

Does this mean that the softare offered is not capable of comparing images, audio or video files by their actual content with or without regard to such parameters as ceation and/or last accessed dates, owner’s params etc? What is the comparison factor and algorithm, then? There are free programmes that are capable of making comparisons based on specified parameters.

Reply   |   Comment by Marek  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Franky, You need to do a simple math before comparing a product created in 2004 with something newly launched. Math classes might help.

I can only assume that you have released this to this forum in an attempt to discover if W7 support is needed.

Well, reading the comments, it patently IS needed and like many on here, I look forward to a revised version in the near future.

I've used a lot of duplicate finders out there but this is up there as one of the best. It's a small file size and comes pre-installed with a 3 years license. I have an i7 processor so I found it to be very fast with plenty of warnings from accidentally erasing including backup options. For me this is a keeper.

The image duplicates are checked byte x byte or like image content/similarity ?

Reply   |   Comment by Thor  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Thor, images are compared by their content.

Dupinout Support

Reply   |   Comment by DupInOut Support  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

DupInOut Support,

for "content" you mean the image data so if metadata are different (and the file size is different) the image can be the same, right ?
There is also the possibility to consider the image the same for a % of similarity ?

Reply   |   Comment by Thor  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Thor, Metadata is not taken into consideration.

File hash and file size are the only two criteria used. CRC-32 is set to be default algorithm, however you can change it to MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256 from the program settings, if required.
