Dupinout Duplicate Finder is a small yet powerful duplicate finder for Windows. It lets you find duplicate documents, photos, music, videos, archives and more. Using the automated scan algorithms, the search results are accurate and faster. Once your scan is finished, you'll be able to mark/unmark files automatically using the selection assistant and then take an action of your choice (Permanently delete/ Move to Recycle Bin/ Move to Folder/ Rename Files/ Replace with Shortcuts).
Dupinout Duplicate Finder comes with other handy tools, namely “Folder Compare” and “File Organizer”. With Folder Compare, you can compare two folders and get a list of the same, different and additional files. With File Organizer, you can keep your files organized in an orderly folder structure.

I ran a scan on a folder that had many very similar if not idential images in "Similar Photos" mode. The program did a good job in detecting these types of duplicates. However, when I was scrolling through the long list of duplicates, I encountered a sudden cascade of popup windows regarding thrown exceptions which I think pertain the rendering of preview images.
Each of the popup windows had the titlebar text "DupInOut Duplicate Finder Error" and the window body text "Initialization of 'System.Windows.Media.Imaging.BitmapImage' threw an exception."
Closing the exception windows causes the main program window to close. However, in the backgruond the main program executable still continues running without a user interface window. I had to kill the running process using Task Manager. If you try to restart the program without doing this you'll get a warning the program is still running.

Anyone else noticed this uses a butchered File open dialogue instead of the Folder Select dialogue to select folders which can lead to non-existent duplicate folder names being entered instead of the correct single folder name e.g.
C:\Downloads\Downloads instead of C:\Downloads maybe the developers could correct this and use the correct .NET component to choose folders?

requires .NET 4.7.2 or better to run, it is a single threaded application so when doing CPU intensive operations like hashing files in folder comparisons it only uses a single cores worth of CPU so is a lot slower on multi-core systems than it could be! Also when using on a laptop or system with restricted cooling be aware that hashing hundreds of thousands of files on a single drive could cause poorly ventilated/cooled drives to over heat so be aware of the risks and I suggest you use something like Hard drive Sentinel or CPUID HWMonitor to monitor the real-time temperatures of drives on systems and be prepared to add cooling airflow or to suspend the DupInOut.exe process in an advanced task manger (Not windows built in task manager as it does not know how to suspend a process) where possible to let drives rest and cool down a bit to keep the hardware and electronics safe.

TK, my laptop occasionally overheats. Just a month ago, I applied thermal paste to my processor. While performing a duplicate scan with this utility, I was simultaneously watching a YouTube video and had a few dozen other tabs open in my browser. I didn't experience any of the issues you mentioned, given my laptop's tendency to overheat. In fact, I found this tool is extremely lightweight and low on resources.

GR, With a multi-core CPU device it will appear to be low resource requirements when hashing because it only uses a single CPU thread so max usage maybe 12.5% on a quad core with hyperthreading. It will only hit the CPU on single core CPU's which will be very rare on supported versions of windows. I was referring to storage device temperature problems which never gets a rest when computing hashes on tens of thousands of files which will take some time and where drives cool down when idle, e.g. SSD or Hard drives with APM controls enabled. This will stress those cooling systems (if there even is a cooling system for drives) during hashing operations, not the CPU which is only using a single core.

This is the first giveaway I've downloaded that comes with an extensive user manual, and two ways to activate the program. It's also highly unusual to have a license term of 6 years when there is an expiration date. Most seem to be 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year. Thanks to the developer for the long license term. This is not something I'll use often or regularly, so having a longer term will tell me if it's something I feel it's worth paying for vs using one of the free utilities out there.

Downloaded and installed very simple, but almost missed the activation PDF, my fault.
Tried it out on some documents which were duplicated in different folders, found them ok
All in all a very simple and useful program, icing on the cake .. 6 Year licence.

Looks like a useful alternative to the free Auslogics Duplicate File Finder, mainly because it also includes a directory compare function. Unfortunately, this function doesn't appear to also allow you to sync the files, only to list which are the same and which are different. Interface is archaic (think 25 years ago) but it works.

There are 2 activation methods, online and offline. If the online method is not working for you, use the offline method instead and see if that works. Read the activation instruction PDF included in in the download.

Djon, you're running Win7, which per the box on the upper right of the page is supported. If the software is unable to connect with the activation server that server may be too busy to accept another connection, something with your ISP may be blocking it, something in Windows may be blocking it, &/or the app itself may be misbehaving or not fully installed. You can try reinstalling the app, in case the app is the problem. You can try booting to Windows in Safe Mode with Networking in case something in Windows is blocking it. You can try using a VPN in case the problem is your ISP -- the Opera Browser includes a free VPN, or try the free Proton VPN.

From the details you've provided, it appears that you're likely using a Virtual Machine.
Please make sure that your VM is connected to the Internet (such as by using the NAT or Bridged Mode in VirtualBox).
Otherwise, as FeMater suggested, please use the Offline Activation method.

mike, It's likely their security software/firewall blocking the program making an outgoing connection because it attempts to use raw sockets API which malware often tries to use for distributed DOS clients.
