Nobody would be knowing the exact update for their devices. Some may download drivers , along with a kind of scanner, which would force you with bundled programs hidden. Some software when uninstalling , would also inadvertently remove needed system files. For those , this program is handy and it does what it promises without asking for you to bother about system update of drivers

Hi, Nice program of GOTD. One should disable AV to install it smoothly. If bios update and the device name for usb mass storages are included, then this program would be most sought by users. No crap ware and this is a huge relief, unlike other driver softwares which include their advertisement, frequent popups etc. Also would like to add more specifications in computer information, like processor, mainboard temp would be welcome.

Didn't receive the code, so I emailed them as per their instructions, requesting that the code be personally sent to me. That was over 4 hours ago. I am very disappointed, and also extremely annoyed! This is the first time that I have had this problem in all the years I have been using GAOTD. At this point, it doesn't matter how good or how bad your software is, since you don't have enough respect for customers/potential future customers to back up with actions the promise you made at this site to personally mail the code. I feel very disrespected.

I already have Driver Easy Pro 5.5.3 with several days left before my renewal date. I uninstalled my version and downloaded and installed the present version but whatever I do it installs and comes up as the professional version and not the free version. So that there is no way that I can add the new license key in order to have a further full-year of Driver Easy Pro 5.5.3. Please let me know if there is a solution to this that I can extend my license for a year.

I had no trouble receiving my key in my email although it was not an instant delivery. It took about five to ten minutes. Also included in the email was a link for a direct download of the program.

Always anxious to avoid the dreaded GOTD wrapper I happily downloaded the installer. I turned on my Shadow Defender to protect myself just in case some thing went wrong and started the install. The install was pretty smooth but it does try to sneak in some service that will start each time you start your computer. I used Winpatrol to delete this.

I started the program and entered the key, It was accepted and I was upgraded to the Pro version. I ran a scan and I must say it completed quickly. I was presented a list it thought needed updated. I selected one on them to update. First the program created a restore point. I thought that was a safe approach but it takes some time to complete this. After the update finished I selected another update. Again it created a restore point. I can see the need to create a restore point but I don't see the need to create this five minutes after a restore point was already created. Perhaps this can be addressed?

Unfortunately the updates required a reboot to take effect. Since I was under Shadow Defender a reboot would nullify any updates I installed. To test this I will have to install and update my "live" system. I am not certain I am willing to put the trust needed for this in this program (or any other of this type. I still subscribe to the "if it ain't broke.... philosophy).

Another draw back is the one year limit. I know one year is a long and generous offer. I can appreciate the offer. But The question I must face is do I want to install a program I will need to uninstall one day? I am not singling this program out. I feel this way for every GOTD offering that is time limited.

Thank you GOTD team and Easeware Technology for the offer

Here is an idea, actually make this a true "free" program. Yet another limited time only, might update a few drivers, then goes silent forever, useless program. It isn't like drivers are updated daily, and many drivers go years without changes, having a program that does this for you, accurately and seamlessly would be a very nice program. Since this is like so many others, with a limited window for the program to function, I won't bother to install. My computer maker also has an automated driver update program, I will just trust them for the time being.

Thanks, but no thanks. If you want to give away software, don't go indian on us, and take it back later. Just a bad deal for the user with an inflated "trial period", that's all.

Anthony, we appreciate how much you want Driver Easy to stay.

As a matter of fact, Driver Easy free is capable of helping you scan and download drivers like the Pro version. If you consider finding the correct drivers the priority, the free version caters to your need.

If you are more willing to use the Pro version, there are many other ways you can keep using the giveaway license key for free. For example, you can write us reviews, help us improve our translation, suggest corrections to our articles, report bugs, report miss-detected drivers and many more.

You can find how to do them in the interface of Driver Easy as shown in the screen shot here: https://images.scdn8.secure.raxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/HS2D87S6J6W_QKG.png

And the giveaway is not some once-in-a-life-time thing for us, as mentioned in our welcome comment, we have done it several times and we will continue doing this down the road.

Look forward to seeing you next time we have the campaign with GOTD.

Thanks again for your comment.

Have a nice day.

I did not experience any problems with the installation and activation process although it did take awhile to get the activation code. When I ran the utility it did identify a number of driver updates which was not unexpected given Lenovo has not updated its drivers for my laptop for a very long time. However, the results indicated that both of my video devices; Intel and Nvidia were "Unplugged" and therefore could not be updated until they were plugged in. I'm not sure what that means because they are installed and functioning according to Windows 10 device manager. Any ideas or suggestions as to what this result means or how to solve the discrepancy?
Thanks in advance for any assistance that you might provide.

Yes I agree, I had some unplugged items which I just left alone - I'd like to know what this means.

Suggestion - there could be a lot more in the way of explanations of what terms and results mean - a sort of glossary of terms and possible results.

Reply   |   Comment by amber  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

David Robinson,

Yes, don't trust this program to tell you what is plugged in, go to the manufacturers website for updates. This is just a long "trial period" anyway. Once you have updated the drivers today, you might as well uninstall this, by the time you need it again, it will have expired anyway.

Reply   |   Comment by Anthony  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Hi Amber,

It is an odd result because if one these devices was not "plugged in" then I believe that there would be no functional laptop because the (Intel) video subsystem is integrated into the cpu. At least that is my hypothesis.

Reply   |   Comment by David Robinson  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

David Robinson, thanks for the detail description. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

According to the analysis of our technician team, there seem to be at least one more NVIDIA graphics card installed in your computer. The Intel graphics card is integrated into the CPU. It will be automatically disabled when there is a second graphics card. As in your case, the second graphics card is NVIDIA.

That said, it is possible for your Intel graphics card to show in the Unplugged device category.

But we need more information from you to be certain why NVIDIA graphics card is also listed as Unplugged device.

If it’s not too much to ask from you, would you please send us an email via the built-in Feedback interface with the “Export System Information for deep analysis” ticked?

No problems with installation. Scan found six drivers to update. I selected update all, one of which was Synaptics Pointing Device. After the updating finished I got a message saying, " Unable to connect to the Synaptic Pointing Device Driver." It says if I have installed another driver, I should uninstall it and reinstall the original driver.

I use a mouse instead of the touch pad, and it seems to be working fine. I haven't restarted the computer yet, so maybe that is the problem. The extra tools are helpful, and the interface is nice and simple.

I had the matter with my touch-pad of Asus computer by using Driver Easy software, when I attempted to update ELAN I2C Filter Driver. My touch-pad is not working properly, in particular "cannot be disable touch-pad when mouse is plugged-in" . I can figure this out that there is a conflict between ELAN I2C Filter and Asus Smart Gesture driver. I have to reinstall Asus Smart Gesture driver to reuse my touch-pad function. Can you fix it or find out a new driver license?

Reply   |   Comment by tribkxd  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

tribkxd,

Try rolling back to an older driver, or uninstall the mouse pad, and reinstall using software you downloaded from asus directly. Usually the first driver in the line is best to use for reinstallation of the software. I would then recommend you don't use this software and check for updates on asus website. You will get drivers created specifically for your laptop, with all the bugs fixed (hopefully) to match the exact hardware configuration in your machine. Plus, this is just another "extended trial", not a "give away". I don't even bother with any software that is a "take back" anymore. Odds are that this will help one time, and when you need it again, it will have expired already. So you could just use it once, and uninstall, saving space/processing for a program you can actually keep.

Setting aside the ol' argument: "If it ain't broke...", as Windows evolves -- mostly 10, but 7 & 8 as well -- new drivers are often necessary to support things that didn't exist when the hardware component was made. Millions, if not billions of dollars are being spent on hacking by governments as well as criminals -- one cyber arms dealer recently advertised a couple of million dollar bounties for specific exploits. Sometimes those exploits involve drivers themselves, or the way that they work in Windows, so the fix may be a new driver, or a change in how Windows operates with that driver, again meaning a new driver.

Software like Driver Easy Pro, if not now, then in the next few years, *may* be the only *easy* way to find driver software, including updates.

The OEM suppliers in China that assemble a Windows device may use components from a smaller company that will never, ever produce that exact product again. Good luck ever finding a driver for it. Many component manufacturers never sell to the public, so they have no reason for a consumer web site, & so no drivers that you can download. Many companies, including big names like Intel, won't release new drivers for products that they no longer sell -- Microsoft recently made an exception to Win10's forced version updates for certain hardware, because it wouldn't be compatible unless the manufacturer updated drivers etc., & it won't. At the same time, you have companies like Intel changing policy, removing driver downloads, telling you to go to the company that made your device, and if you do find a download, modifying the setup routine so it won't install, again telling you to visit the company whose brand is on the device.

Microsoft wants to host every driver in its Windows Update database, & seems to be pushing to be the only source for drivers & driver updates. When you go to a component in Device Mgr., & select Search for an update in 10, instead of the search you used to get, the Windows Update window opens. In a perfect world Windows Update will presumably automatically check the driver status of every component, providing the latest & greatest whenever it's needed, but [at least pragmatically speaking] we don't live in a perfect world. Microsoft just pushed out a bad Nvidia graphics driver to folks in their Win10 Insider program, which is the 2nd time I'm aware of that they've done that. Different drivers &/or driver versions can be listed for hardware that is in fact incompatible -- I've had this happen a dozen times or so with Windows Update on this PC, usually in Win7.

It's always safest to perform a disk/partition image backup before updating drivers, whether you're running the driver setup file yourself, using some utility from the manufacturer, using Driver Easy Pro, or if/when the driver's updated via Windows Update.

Tim posted: "The next time I used it, and twice after that, it took me 1-2 hours to correct all that it screwed up."

In Tim's case it could easily have been a bad, as in defective or incompatible driver. I've had it happen with the Lenovo update utility on my wife's 2-in-one; I've had it happen when I installed drivers that, according to the manufacturer, applied to the hardware. Unless it's a situation like the bad Nvidia driver from Microsoft, effecting a very large number of people, I wouldn't expect Driver Easy Pro, or any other software, to know that the manufacturer's recommendations were wrong. Regardless the cause of his problems, restoring a backup, depending on how things are set up, should hopefully take around 1/2 hour.

If you're running Win10, then there's an added reason to perform a disk/partition image backup before updating drivers, and hold onto that backup... Windows 10 is expected to update versions twice a year. The upgrade process will often reuse installed driver versions. An updated driver that worked fine, one that was actually intended to work better with one version of 10, may be completely incompatible with a newer version. I've had that happen, causing a #$@*#!! loop of sorts -- 10 would try to update, which would fail, causing it to roll back to the previous version, then try updating again, which would fail, then roll back & start all over. The last time it happened was especially frustrating because the driver update that caused the problems was installed by Windows Update!

That said, I haven't seen Windows Update try to push out a driver update that was an older version than the one installed -- that doesn't mean it's never happened, but I haven't seen or read of it happening. So while it's not fool proof, keeping drivers up to date might help protect you from Windows Update wanting to update a driver, and its unfortunate habit of providing bad or wrong drivers.

Restoring a disk/partition image backup is the best cure for a bad graphics driver... [While there are graphics drivers released that are bad for everyone, it's somewhat rare -- usually a graphics driver only gives some people problems, making success or failure hard to predict.] Very often rolling back driver versions [in Device Mgr.] simply won't work with graphics drivers. DDU [I get it from guru3d[.]com] *may* work to remove the driver, but it's not foolproof either in my experience, sometimes removing the driver but causing other problems. Copies of the drivers that have been installed -- not just the current driver -- are stored in C:\Windows\ System32\ DriverStore\ , but while that can be helpful for most drivers, the copies of graphics drivers you'll find there are usually not complete enough to install.

While it borders on overkill, it doesn't hurt to open Device Mgr. & store the individual component names, & possibly the drivers used when you get a new device [maybe take a bunch of screenshots or pictures with your cell?]. Hardware component IDs are stored in Windows registry entries -- usually neither Windows nor software knows anything beyond those registry values -- and through driver updates those values [names &/or IDs] can change. Having the original info *may* help troubleshooting driver-related problems, e.g. may help you to get back to an older driver that works.

mike, good comment, as always. The bad thing is that Win10 (recently was forced to 'update' to it because Win7 won't support my new mobo with Kabylake processor) doesn't 'offer' updates or drivers or give you any real choice - it simply installs them. While I can see that for a whole lot of people who don't want to know AT ALL what goes on under the Windows hood, this is useful, for techies it is turning into a nightmare.

I believe driver updates in Win10 can be disabled by going to: This PC/Properties/Advanced System Settings/Hardware/Device Installation Settings and selecting "No" despite the warning that "Your device might not work as expected". As you pointed out, the next Win10 'update' may stop some devices from working as a result of doing so.

There's really no good answer to this, unfortunately - either the user takes responsibility for getting updates (which may not be available to the end user), or lets Microsoft do it and potentially screw up your machine with a bad driver download and install.

Oh, and Windows does not do bi-yearly updates as they claim except for MAJOR changes. I have seen minor updates to my Win10 Pro several times since deploying it about a month a go. They're Microsoft - they lie about everything.

mike, thanks for your very professional, informative and convincing comment!

I’m with Driver Easy, and frankly speaking, I agree with you that Windows Updates delivering wrong drivers sometimes.

In 2016, we found an Intel chipset would result in installation failure. And we tried to make contact with Microsoft and Intel via partner support since we are in a partnership with both of them, but we didn’t hear from them about the solutions as we had expected. Finally, we had to upgrade the default settings in Driver Easy to disable getting drivers from Windows Update by default.

Since then, we have developed more strategies on the driver analytics and testing fronts. We look deep into our users’ feedback and dig deep until we find the culprit drivers, then disable them to protect our users from further losses.

Since the beginning of this year, we have made another step forward in driver testing. As you know, there are thousands of computer models in the market, and companies like ours can’t afford buying off all the models just for driver tests. But we think out of the box, we manage to make the most of what we have to offer.

We relocated to an IT industry hub where we are within walking distance of over 100 computer stores. We corporate with them and rent their computers for driver tests before we release the drivers to our users. We run as many tests as possible every computer that we can possibly find, not just the new ones, but also the ones from the second-hand market.

That said, we still can make no guarantee that we are able to test and predict all the problems possible. That is why we have a built-in Feedback interface. It helps us make deep analysis into the causes of issues our users may encounter and finally mark out the solutions accordingly. The process benefits not just the users who actually have the problems, but also a larger group of users who might run into the problems in the future.

That is why we encourage every user to send us whatever problems you have with Driver Easy at any time. We analysis the problems in detail and work to stop similar issues from happening again.

We are aware that there are other choices out there, but we do hope Driver Easy is your first go-to option.

Thanks for your time for reading this.

Have a good day.

I have a question for the developer:
Every 3 to 6 months you claim that new drivers are available, however, when I go to the original chip makers to check for new drivers or to compare your version of drivers presented for updates, there are no such versions available.
It makes me wonder, where do you get those versions for updates?

Reply   |   Comment by sammy  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

sammy, thanks for the question. We hope we are making ourselves clear:

Basically, you can find the drivers for your devices in 3 ways: from computer manufacturers, hardware manufacturers and chipset makers. Computer and hardware manufacturers will no longer provide the updated or newer version of device drivers once the life cycle (could be six months or so) of the products are reached. But chipset makers will still continue releasing the newer versions of the device drivers, so you don’t need to toss your devices away and keep using them for as long as you like.

As for the difference you see, there are many reasons why this would happen.

For example, Microsoft will usually run tests on drivers from chip manufacturers and make sure that these drivers pass WHQL. When Microsoft makes the new release after the tests, the driver date and/or the driver version number will be changed accordingly.

In addition, chip makers sometimes will provide only semi-finished hardware to PC manufactures and other hardware manufactures, together with the drivers. Chip makers will usually release the new drivers first. PC manufacturers and other hardware manufacturers will do certain changes to the semi-finished hardware to make it complete. Then release modified drivers to the complete hardware.

Driver Easy only provides the best-matched official drivers from manufacturers. But in some cases where the best-matched drivers, like those for Windows 10, could not be found, Driver Easy will provide drivers from chipset manufacturers, which are safe to your computer as they have passed WHQL (Windows Hardware Certification Kit) test. (For more information of WHQL, please visit: https://www.drivereasy.com/driver-easy-certified.)

If you still have worries about device drivers that Driver Easy provide, feel free to let us know. Send us an email with the drivers’ information and your concerns at support@drivereasy.com. We’d be very happy to explain in more details.

I can recommend.

I followed the readme file instructions and had no problem whatsoever downloading and registering for the Pro version. Ran it, and updated about 20 drivers, some of the downloads replacing the entire chipsets of my operating system. I was a little worried it might be overkill, and when I restarted, there was a message displaying that my computer couldn't start and it was repairing start up. That dialogue box ran seemingly forever, but eventually stopped, said it couldn't repair start up, and got me worried. Went through that dialogue box pressing finish and my computer shut down. When it restarted the second time everything was fine - everything was there on my desktop, all video and audio ran smoothly, and I think this might fix some annoyances that were starting to pop up here and there with my pointing device, video playback and system sluggishness.

I like the program very much, thank you developers! and GAOTD of course as well.

I'd like to add a suggestion as well - Right now you can either "choose all" or go through manually and download 1 driver at a time.

put an option to click through and "decline" drivers as well as "update" and allow more than one driver to download at a time that way.

Here are 2 suggestions:

1) Add a search bar

Since I have quite a few drivers installed, it's time-consuming to scroll up & down. So please add a search bar to make the process quicker.

2) Have options: Update and Update and install

If for some reason we want to install it later, the second feature would be handy.

That's all

I have been using this and others all without problem. I find that no program does it all, so I have 10 of these type of software that I use, and each one catches something different. For those that are having issues, maybe a new computer is needed?; just a thought.it may be that this type of software is best suited with the latest operating systems.

Tim, I bought the program too, and my main reason to buy it was, that I,m able to inspect each driver before I allow it to install. 'till now, it hasn't found any "kitchen drivers" - only digitally signed drivers. Btw, I knew the program, from it was a free online driver updater as well, and this is just the only tool, I use, when I check my drivers. Never let me down yet ;-)

Managed to download, install and register without any problems (Win10 64bit), did a scan and was informed that I had six outdated drivers. When trying to update drivers 4 out of the six updates were aborted at 80%. Tried rebooting PC to allow updated drivers to install properly but remaining driver updates stall at 80% with timeout error. Also reported by graphics card as being unplugged. Unimpressed and uninstalled.

Ted, Mario was talking about FREE version of DriverMax! and those ''who do you work with'' comments are..let's say lame (as I don't won't to use more precise word).Do you really believe that software developers are paying someone just for mention their product on some giveaway site? btw Mario is posting his comments regularly, not just today (to ''promote DriverMax'') !
About today's offer-- I also know one far better solution than Driver Easy-Driver Talent, and for your surprise I don't know the name of company who developed Driver Talent,as Mario I tested both products.Maybe You can do the same? 1.Driver Easy is pretty heavy on system resources 2.Downloading drivers with DE sometimes takes a lot of time 3.I think that someone already mentioned-downloading process often stall at one point, especially when downloading several drivers 4.It is well known fact that DE have tendency to freeze during downloading.
So,yes there are better solutions than Driver Easy. And I'm barely using any of them,as I like to update drivers only when I know it will improve performance! Manually!

I installed this from a previous offer. After a recent re-install of Win 7 64 bit I tried to use DriverEasy to install drivers from a back up I'd made using DriverEasy from the previous install of the OS, it didn't manage to install any of them. It also installed updated drivers for my '3' ZTE Mobile Broadband dongle, except that they were for a Verizon mobile broadband dongle, as well as Verizon's mobile broadband GUI. I'm not aware that you can get a Verizon mobile broadband service in the UK!

Nick H, We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

But no worries, this problem is totally fixable:

When you click the Driver Restore button in Driver Easy, browse to the folder containing the drivers you have backed up. Click the .zip folder with the name mydrivers-xxxx-xx-xx (the date when you made the change). This is the folder where your drivers are. Do not click the backup folder.

As for the mobile broadband dongle driver problem, we’ d love to solve this problem right away, but our tech team need more information to better help you fix the problem.

Driver Easy Support, Thanks for the reply and suggestions to fix the issues that I had. I did use the 'Restore Drivers' button as you said. I've re-installed the drivers that I needed manually. The useless Verizon drivers were downloaded through Driver Easy it had informed me that there were some new drivers for a ZTE dongle which I have - ZTE Diagnostics Interface, ZTE NMEA Device & ZTE Proprietary USB Modem. It appears that DriverEasy has confused my modem operated on the 3 network in the UK for a Verizon dongle, I guess that is possible as ZTE dongles are used around the world and it confused the ISP and country. But no use whatsoever to me in the UK. I do not have the feedback option you request as I uninstalled DriverEasy to avoid getting the wrong drivers again, the mistake could have been a lot more serious if the driver had been for the PC rather than a USB connected device, I did not want to risk another mistake.

Driver Easy Support,

Hi, thanks for Your comment directed to me, and no, I don't object to 1 year License, if that's the case. I object to word INCLUDES in 'Please note'.. (with exclamation mark at the end of sentence making it look like some generous Offer..)
In every day language INCLUDES surely translates into something 'Extra'?? Here, and not for the first time describing Trial versions on GOTD(!) - it simply spells: DIMINISHED GIFT! I think I made my point above (to Franck) in the same disheartening spirit fashioned lately by clever wording, meaning something opposite.. Unfortunately. Have a nice day.

fran, thanks for clarifying this for us.

We believe administrators of GOTD will note your comment down and change to different wordings so as to convey exactly what they mean in later campaigns.

Again, thanks for your reply.

Have a good day.
