Hi GTODers, this is Kevin, a member of the Driver Easy team.

This is the second time we join the GTOD campaign. Before we launch this campaign, I have read each and every comment on all the driver updaters on GTOD. Not just comments of Driver Easy campaign from last year, but all driver updaters’ comments.

I agree with some of the comments saying that driver updater is not a tool that fits everyone's need. But we do hope that Driver Easy is the first option that you choose when you feel like a driver updater, just like you first go to Google when you want to know something.

Before I joined Driver Easy team, I have over 15 years of experience in IT industry, and I had fought with the IRQ/DMA jumpers and tired to find a corresponding driver for the hardware for many years. Frankly speaking, it was really not a pleasant job to do. So Windows introduction of the Plug-and-Play technology really saved us from the IRQ/DMA conflict issues. And that is what we want Driver Easy to do on the any driver related issue: a simple and easy solution without costing much time or energy.

We are working hard to make Driver Easy become the all-in-one solution to the driver problems. Not only can Driver Easy help you keep the driver problems away, it is also very easy to use: just follow the big green buttons to get everything done! Even a five year old can update drivers with it.

We must agree that nothing can be all perfect, and there are indeed some improvements that can be made on Driver Easy. That is what our team is doing everyday: we work harder everyday to make sure Driver Easy to be your first choice.

But as we all know, two heads are always better than one. Since we are all here now, please allow me to make some humble suggestions:

We have Driver Easy technical team, developing team and customer care team here. Please feel free to let us know what do you want Driver Easy to become in the near future?

You can tell us exactly what you have in your mind, for example, how would you like to change the design, what features and tools you expect to see on Driver Easy, and any other changes that you want to see in Driver Easy by leaving us comments here or send us an email to . You will receive our reply in no more than two working days.

We are here to listen and serve you better.

P.S. If you cannot get the email containing the license key, please visit https://www.drivereasy.com/resend-license-key/.

People usually have a problem of a few unrecognized devices on old versions of Windows, and if they can't find them on the internet or other places, chances are no driver updater will.

I will use this STRICTLY for driver backup and driver restore.
NOT for driver "update".
Especially NOT for scanning hundreds of drivers and "Updating all those drivers with 1 Click".
That is asking for trouble.
If you have to update, do it 1 at a time so you know what went wrong when things go wrong after a driver update.

Hi everybody. :-)

Comparison:
- driverdetails.com (pcvark softwares) driver updater 1.0.0.16358 showed 4 old device drivers (10 Dec 2016).
- iobit driverbooster free 4.1 shows 7 old device drivers (5 intel, 2 realtek).
- kcsoftwares dumo free 2.8.1.50 shows 8 old device drivers (7 intel, 1 realtek).
- driverDR shows 9 old device drivers (7 intel, 2 realtek).
- intel driver updater shows 1 new device driver (and wants to substitute it with one older).
- windows device manager didn't find all the suggested drivers from all previous software, i.e. it "said" always "the best driver software for your device is already installed".

Conclusion: get one of these software for free as a second opinion and to have a list at a glance. If microsoft windows device manager doesn't find anything and if intel driver updater isn't correct about their own driver software, how could another software be correct?

Thanks drivereasy/Easeware Technology Limited, but no thanks.

Thanks anyway to the GAOTD team.

Installed routinely on W10 x64. Found three drivers that my existing competitive program hadn't found.

Don't appreciate the fact that it installed a scheduled task; this is the sort of program that I want to run manually when I decide to do so.

And GOTD wouldn't transmit the email link request until agreeing to receive the newsletter. That's rather presumptuous.

Followup to above: installed on a number of machines and found obsolete and missing drivers on all with no problems. Had one issue: on a dual-boot 10 / 7 machine, after the Windows 10 had installed 11 new drivers, and restarted, all the desktop icons had been right-justified on the primary monitor. Re-sorting them by name restored them to the intended left side of that monitor. And the Windows 7 side blue screened during the update process and was left in an irreparable state. I'll have to restore that partition from Windows Home Sever.

Art Shapiro,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Regarding the desktop icons issue, we were wondering whether you have used Driver Easy to update your display card driver.

Display card driver can cause the change of the resolution of your screen, thus change the way to arrange icons on your desktop.

If there's anything more that we can do, please feel free to ask.

FFS... as long as I've been working with computers (30 years), I have ALWAYS relied on the drivers the hardware vendor provides, as well as equivalent drivers provided by Microsoft. When I see ANY piece of software that purports to "keep your drivers up to date", I shudder in disgust, because this sort of thing reminds me of the click-bait ads I see throughout the world-wide-web. If any of my clients ever installed BS like that, I'd slap their face so hard I'd knock them into next week.

Reply   |   Comment by George Taylor  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

George Taylor,

You do realize that the driver updates provided are vendor specific, right? This software takes the pain away from having to use multiple other applications to keep your drivers up to date. This vendor doesn't write its own drivers for hundreds, or even thousands of components and peripherals out in the world, that's nearly impossible task to do. You should be encouraging your clients to use this software instead of slapping them. Updated drivers make your system more stable and secure.

Reply   |   Comment by Eddie_M  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Eddie_M, I don't lose any sleep if my drivers aren't up to date. As a matter of fact, I prefer Not to update them so my system can run more efficiently. Case in point; I updated my nVidea display driver because it kept nagging me about an update when the tray icon was running, now I can't close the tray icon, meaning that nVideo tray app is now taking up additional system resources. I am a firm believer that when a system is initially set up with the optimum drivers for the hardware being used, leave it that way. Even software updates scare me.

Driver Easy is not so easy. 8 out of 10 systems this was installed on today crashed (BSOD) after using this program to update them. Only 1 of the 10 managed to get the Pro license to activate, the other 9 could not connect to the server for validation.

This program sounds like a good idea but the developers really need to look at server communication and the driver database they are drawing from. For now the best way to update drivers is to go to the manufacturers website and manually check for updates. It may be slower than using this type of software, but it is also much safer.

The program seemed to work well on my Windows 10 machine. 20 drivers were updated (122 others were deemed okay). It was nice to see what drivers were to be updated. The only glitches that I noticed were 1. - my solar hot water controller com port was lost until the second reboot and 2. - all my desktop icons from 2 monitors ended up on my main monitor, even overlapping. Took a couple minutes to rearrange but all is back to normal.

Ran this proggie and it identify 31 driver updates. 12 of these were Intel related. I went to the Intel site and downloaded/ran their Driver Update Utility. It found ZERO update requirements and noted that my graphics driver had been customized for the OEM. It said my chipset drivers were current (as well as the other drivers declared outdated by Driver Easy.

Now I'm glad I didn't allow DE to mess with my system, particularly at a motherboard level. As others have stated this type of software is dangerous. Use it only to identify potential updates, but ALWAYS go to the driver source for the final word. Better yet... make no changes unless your current driver is causing problems.

Installed easily on Windows 10 Pro and found 17 updates. I like the fact you can compare the version numbers and authors.

One problem though. I have tried the "Driver Backup". It creates a backup directory of around 950MB. However, it hangs when creating the zip file. I have tried it twice, and it hung around 200MB when creating the file "DotNetZip-4vvr1ew4.tmp" - both times around the same size.

Thanks so much for your trust in Driver Easy.

I just ran a scan for the first time, and when I clicked to update the drivers, I recieved an error. System runtime interop Services 0x80040154 Exception from HRESULT. Microsoft said there is a hotfix for this, but won't give it to me because it is a third party application. I am using windows 7 32 bit. Maybe the developer or the team knows what happened.

Dear Driver Easy Support,

Your driver update server "dow2.drivereasy.com" is TOO MUCH HARD to access!

I have tried to update the driver and download them in different time period for many times, but it still too much slow (it's about 10-20 KB/s) or can not be connet to the server directly!

Would you please consider to add a "CDN service" (such as cloudflare, akamai, etc...) for your update server?

Tiger,

Sorry that you ran into this problem.

We noticed that since many users flashing in the servers since the beginning of the giveaway. We have added more new servers on our side, and the slow speed problem should be gone now. Please have a try to see if the problem persists.

Usually, you can expect the speed to be 500 kb to 20 MB. But the actual download speed will depend on many a factor, such as broadband speed, ISP, the country that you live in etc.

If you cannot still get a fast speed now, please feel free to contact us.

The install, registration, and driver update worked well on my Win10 system. It found several Intel chipset drivers and some audio drivers that needed updating. The updates ran fine and when finished I got a message saying the system had to reboot - which I expected.

When I rebooted I did expect DriverEasy to automatically restart, but it did not. So I restarted it and it said there was still 1 audio driver that needed updating. I did that and got the message that everything was up to date.

I saw that I had 3 different sets of audio drivers (Intel, RealTek, and nVidia). Since my motherboard has a RealTek audio controller I used the Delete Driver function to remove the Intel and nVidia drivers. This is a nice capability to have since it lets you remove old drivers for hardware that you may no long have on your system.

Driver updates are tricky to do sometimes but based in my experience so far I rated DriverEasy 5 stars.

Thank you for the nice software. The download from GAOTD did not seem to contain Driver Easy install (setup.exe would not actually do anything) but did provide a link to get activation key. I downloaded Driver Easy from CNET, and activated with this key. Driver Easy ran just fine on my Dell Latitude E5540 with latest Win10. Updated 15 of my drivers nicely. The UI was a little glitchy, but performed the task well enough.

Installed and activated without issue. I have two other driver updaters. So when I ran Driver Easy, it found only one driver to be updated. But find one it did. Driver update went smoothly. The problem with this sort of software is that it doesn't give you a choice as to which drivers you want to update.
Automatically updating drivers (unless it's done by your operating system) is guaranteed to cause problems.
I steer well clear of driver update software.

Reply   |   Comment by Derek  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Derek,

Thanks for sharing you view with us.

I think there is some misunderstanding about Driver Easy here.

Driver Easy will first help you scan for device drivers that require updates. You can choose from the list of the missing or outdated drivers which driver(s) you want to update.

The update-all feature comes in handy for users who want all of their drivers updated in just one click. You can still choose as per your own needs if you don't want to update the drivers detected all at once.

Just perform a scan with Driver Easy, you don't need to update or download anything. You will see that I'm telling the 100% truth.

If you are looking for more detailed information, please feel free to contact us.

I allow that finding a driver was a big deal, some time before. But tarting with Windows 7, Microsoft had improved its drivers delivery via Windows Update, and it's got better in Windows 8, 10. I remembered how I had to use another computer do download broadcom ethernet driver after I finished clean install of Windows 7, when I was doing a clean install of Windows 8, it was installing that driver itself. So the only advantage of auto driver updater that I see is that you can update all drivers all at once, why would you want you to do that is another question.

From long time experience with drivers, I can tell you this:
DO NOT MESS WITH THEM if your system works fine.

Updated and or new drivers will not speed it up your system. I have seen third party driver updates insert adware, viruses, malware and other perils on the same drivers that are already running in your system or replace them with not compatible drivers.

The driver updates should be done if you install new hardware only, new drivers on an old motherboard or hardware is a call for disaster.

If an original hardware manufacturer does not have new drives for updates, probably you are dealing with modified drivers that may render your computer useless. It may work on some but not all computers.

Before you update drivers, look first at the manufacturer site and if not available, you are very brave person to installed unproven drivers.
The reason is this, some drivers use same IRQs and or memory addresses after the computer already started and the OS is not aware of those calls before a driver starts later on and can not prevent a crash.

IRQs sharing is allowed in windows, but the OS must know ahead of time what and which drivers do that. If your video driver uses IRQ 125 and memory allocation at A00B1000, how would you know that the new drivers you just installed for sound or north/south bridge do not use the same IRQs calls and or memory allocations as your video drivers?

And there you have, most will experience blue screens and or frozen computer after the updates.

Reply   |   Comment by martin  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+25)

martin, Right on. It is risky to update a driver for a program or device unless you are having problems with it. In the case of devices you go the Device Manager and if a device is not working there is usually a yellow mark beside it's listing. In that case you click on Properties/Drivers and follow the tabs. There's a good chance it will tell you you already have good drivers, then you might have to use google to investigate.
In the case of programs go to the tool's website and/or follow up by googling a forum that will usually have thousands of instances and solutions that match yours.
Get a good freeware driver backup tool to backup all of your drivers to a file --then if a device won't show and asks for a driver you just refer it to that file. www.freedriverbackup.com/

I installed this one the last time it was on giveaway and it has always worked smoothly - well, until some features expired. (They should not, right - this is supposed to be a full-fledge lifelong license?) After that the sotware was still downloading new drivers but forced me to install them manually (never seemed to work). And recently, it forced me to update to a new build - something which is not allowed under the giveway license, - but when I declined, the software shut down.

All in all, a great tool as long as it works with full its functions.

Martin ,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

We should make something clear here before someone is mislead.

As for the life-long license you mentioned, maybe we should have been more clear on the post for the last giveaway that the license is valid for one year, not life long.

As I have mentioned when replying Allen, free and professional version of Driver Easy allows you to upgrade to the latest version of Driver Easy any time you want for free. Therefore, there is no such thing as a certain version (or build in your way of saying) of Driver Easy stopping you from using the key getting from giveaway.

During the period of validity, you can enjoy all features of Driver Easy professional version. After it expires, it will revert back to free version, and you can choose to renew your license key at a 50% discount.

But if you find it more comfortable to keep using Driver Easy for free, that's okay too. Free version of Driver Easy also allows you to scan, detect and download the needed and missing drivers on your PC.

If the manual installation of your device drivers fail to work properly, please feel free to contact us via the feedback interface in Driver Easy. Screen shots of the failure will be highly appreciated.

Looking forward to helping you with the problem that you mentioned.

Thank you for clarification Sophie. Will need to be more careful with GOTD next time to avoid installing extended trial versions.

Good to know about the updates too. Just as a side note, the .txt instruction file bundled to instal file - even the today's instal file - says clearly, 'No free upgrades to future versions'.

Martin ,

So sorry for the misunderstanding that we brought.

The 'No free upgrades to future versions' in the 'read me' file should be deleted.

We do provide free updates to future versions, as mentioned above.

You can totally have a try when we release Driver Easy 5.1.6.

If you see more problems, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks again for your trust and choosing Driver Easy.

I am using the latest public build of Windows 10 with Bitdefender security and vpn/proxy running. The application downloaded with no problems. I followed the instructions for activation and completed activation in less than a minute. I ran Driver Easy, which identified 19 outdated drivers requiring 708mb of downloads.

I began the download and installation process using the update all feature. The first 10 installations were flawless. To test things out, I decided to try to bypass the next driver, which was currently downloading. I pressed Pause and declined to reboot. I unchecked the driver in mid-download and then proceeded to individually press the Update button for the remaining drivers. No problems!

This looks like a very solid application. If things continue to go well, I will be renewing in a year. Thanks!

Dear GOTDers,

We notice that some of you have mentioned the Drives Easy online version here.

As the developers of this version, we do feel sorry to say that this version is currently not available now.

The online version of Driver Easy relies heavily on the Click-Once technology of Microsoft. Basically, this technology runs automatically on IE with Windows 7 operating system. And we did adore this technology.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has not released the newer version of this technology for the past few years. Click-Once technology was originally able to be used on browsers such as Firefox and Chrome by ways of plugin or extension. But later, Google Chrome removed the plugin and it is unclear whether Firefox will follow suit. What's more, Microsoft has now turned to Edge instead of IE, all these make it very unlikely for us to keep the online version of Driver Easy going. We hate to see this version go too.

However, there is a silver lining to it: now we can concentrate more on developing more features on Driver Easy program.

Hope you all have great experience using Driver Easy.

Sophie

Driver Easy Support,

Cannot contact you through the program interface as it will still not connect to server. Pinging the server (app1.drivereasy.com) works but program still fails to connect. This is only the second program given away here on GOTD that I've ever had an issue with (been coming here almost since the beginning).

Guess its time to uninstall and seek a program that works without hassle.

Downloaded from email link. Registered ok from key given in 2nd email. Windows 10.
Driver Easy found 5 outdated drivers. Success downloading new drivers but all failed to install.
May be Windows 10 didn't appreciate trying to change drivers?
Reverted to backup Windows 7 and invited Driver Easy to try again.
This time it found 11 drivers needed updating plus 2 drivers for plug in stuff.
Amazing did the lot in a jiffy. Tested and found no faults or instability do far.
Seems to do what it says. Thank you Driver Easy!

Ootje,

Thanks for sharing your questions with us.

Regarding to the first screen shot, if you click to view the detailed information of the device that you pointed out, you will see that this is a device driver for PCI Express Controller, not the driver for your CPU.

As for the second screen shot, please scroll down a little bit to see if there is another category saying Unplugged device(s) or some other categories. Drivers in the different categories combined should reach a total number of 21.

Thanks for your complement on this tool of Driver Easy. We really appreciate it.

Hope I'm answering your questions clearly. Please feel free to reply if I'm not making myself clear enough to you.

About the detail of the CPU: I did ask for details about the CPU and got the wrong CPU-ID:

Don't want to write about drivers updating again, but SlimDrivers does this for free, no drivers download speed limit, direct download link is below the big DOWNLOAD from Download.com banner on their site, if someone squeamish about download dot com.

Reply   |   Comment by ew  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-10)

ew, Slim Drivers/DriverUpdate/AVG Driver Update does a very bad job of finding driver updates. It will often find no driver updates on a computer that Driver Easy or Driver Booster will find valid driver updates on. Driver Booster and in particular Driver Easy have a much larger database of drivers/

Sim,

So sorry that you encountered this problem while using Driver Easy.

It seems that there was something wrong with the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) on your Windows 10 operating system.

Please follow the steps below to set it to Automatic and Running:

1) Press Windows logo key, then type in "services"(no quotation marks) on the search box. Then choose "Services" from the list of choice.

2) Locate Remote Procedure Call (RPC) services and double click it.

3) On the newly opend window, check to see if the Startup type is "Automatic". If the Startup type is not Automatic, press the down arrow on the side and choose "Automatic" from the drop down bar.

4) Then check to see if the Service status is Running. If the status is not set at Running, press the Start button under Services status. Then hit Apply and OK to save the changes and exit.

If the above steps can still not helping you with this issue, please contact us via the feedback interface built-in Driver Easy, and we will send you more detailed information to help you with this problem.

Thanks for sharing this problem with us.

Have a good day.

Sophie

Unfortunately, I have no shares in Driver Easy, which I got aware of, when I saw their online service. Yes, they give you the ability to update your drivers online. I had a good experience, and I tried the program - maybe 3 years ago now. I feel safe, whilst every driver, it finds, can be examined for signatures - and scanned for virus/malware as well. Even I know, where to find my drivers at the manufactor's home page, I will take use of Driver Easy. My only concern is, the program won't serve me at all, if it can't be updated. Since the developers are kind enough to joint the thread, I'll ask, if it will be updated during a certain test period (1 year licence) ?

Well, again, thanks to the team behind GAOTD and today, DriverEasy, for the generous offer.Cheers from Denmark

**Update all your missing drivers with just 1 click! **

Having been "bitten" by far too many 'driver update' programs when all I'm trying to do is actually *find* and install drivers that have been destroyed or 'lost' on any number of 'puters - & this is especially aggravating when Windows doesn't even show the item(s) missing their driver(s).... I wonder if this program *CAN* identify missing device drivers when the devices are not even listed in the "Device Manager".

Kevin - please respond to my comment - Thanks from a rainy "Pearl of the Orient". a.k.a. Commie Running Dog infested Hong Kong. S.A.R. [S mall A rea of R epression].

Old China Hand,
Sorry to hear about your tragic experience with other driver updaters.

We define “items with missing drivers” as devices that have not yet equipped with appropriated device drivers. Usually, there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the name of such device in Device Manager. They can be listed under Other devices category with the name Unknown device. For more information about this, please visit: https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-fix-unknown-devices/

In terms of Driver Easy’s capability of finding such devices, I can guarantee you that it totally can.
By the way, some unplugged devices are usually cannot be seed in Device Manager unless you plug the devices into your PC. Driver Easy can help you identify them as well, under the category Unplugged device(s).

If you don’t have such devices, Driver Easy is not able to detect them out for you.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Old China Hand, I good advise is, never update more than one driver at the time. If tou take use of the one click option, it'll be very hard to find the problem - if it occures. Further more, you can check each driver before you install it. I'm sorry, you've had that bad experiences in the past. There are a lot of kitchen developers out there - stuffing their "drivers" with malware.

Anna, I'm yet to see any drivers which come with malware. That's just an unproven myth based on my exeprience.
