No idea what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get the registration key to stick. When I enter it, an orange circle with an exclamation point appears to the left. The Upgrade box turns orange but reverts to white if I move the cursor away. No matter where I click nothing changes.

Can anyone tell me what I should be doing instead?

If you had a previous giveaway of this e.g. 7.6 and it was activated, although installing this uninstalls the previous version the license registry entries remain and are re-used by 7.8 so you will not see the icon/button to activate it again with the new license. Both licenses were lifetime so is not an issue, you can just use it as is.

I presume like pretty much all data recovery tools there is only limited recovery success on SSD based systems with TRIM fully supported and implemented at OS level? As TRIM reverts subsequent reads of deallocated sectors to return all zeros once the TRIM command has completed. So this is more for magneto-mechanical drives and generic FLASH memory that cannot support TRIM like SDcards and USB thumb drives and most SSD used exclusively inside an old USB hard drive enclosure.

Can this be used to retrieve files from a non bootable computer? If yes, what is the process? I have downloaded the software and see no such option. Please be specific in the steps needed.

DYD software has always been good and reliable in my experience. I prefer keeping such 'emergency' programs on a separate USB drive and this installed there without issue and runs fine. FYI, if you are using a VPN and get a registration error, turn the VPN off and try again. That worked for me.
