Dear Giveaway of the Day: Could you PLEASE stop designing your emails so that they go STRAIGHT to an online video when I try to open it. Every time this happens (and it now seems to be all the time), it causes my email program to crash!

Dimo registration is more like a scavenger hunt on their website. I thought World Cup was last year? Scroll down slowly and look for "Giveaway" about 3/4 down right hand side.
Amazed at how similar this looks to AVC. But looks only.

Hello GOTD, it would be nice if you could state your license policy explicitly. Such as the default is lifetime unless stated otherwise.
This has been the calling of many of your followers time and time again. For example, if the developer is offering FREE a trial in their web site, then if GOTD is providing the software in similar term, then it is not a "giveaway" from GOTD. Thank you.

Why convert the new codec H.265 (HEVC) to the old and less efficient codec MPEG4 ? (MP4 is just a container )
But why bother about Dimo because HandBrake is free...

F Thomsen, I do because I have a media player that won't play H265.

Thomas Black, Me too. Nothing I own, external of my PC, will play H265.

Thomas Black, in that circumstance I would recommend you download the larger H264 encoded files and not the smaller H265 files that you then have to waste resources and time and video quality by re-encoding them to H264 or other compatible lossy codec.

In my experience most content is supplied encoded in various formats Xvid, H264, and H265 so normally there is plenty of choice.

All the various Dimo video products are built on the same codebase and are derived from the real product Dimo Video Converter Ultimate they mostly have dumped in them a youtube downloader and a very simple web server that calims to be a media server but is not really. Dimo like to try and maximise their dev investment by conditional builds that strip out some or most features and leave a subset that they then attempt to rebrand as a new product like this specialising in a single input or single output format in the hopes that some one will buy multiple subset products instead of buying the Ultimate or videomate products which represent better value for money if you need to support a wider range of media file types. All Dimo converters have crazy high template bitrates for all the video output templates I have ever looked at which will normally result in much larger output files than expected. Contrary to every other GUI framework I have used Dimo GUI never renders cleanly in a remote desktop session, it is always badly dithered to a much lower colour bit depth than the remote desktop session is set for even when the session is running in 32bit colour mode too. I won't be bothering installing this one seeing as it adds nothing to my other Dimo giveaways. Maybe if they choose to offer Dimo Video Converter Ultimate 4.6.0 I might be tempted to give it a try. You can find out alot about this product and the other subset Dimo converters by looking up the other giveaways by Dimo from the link in the information panel above.

Oddly I just went back over some of the previous giveaways of their products that I know I commented on and received replies so they did make it past the moderator at the time and strangely my original comments have vanished... Are my truthfull comments getting too truthfull and getting too embarasing to keep on the site?

I really wanted to like this program. Following the readme, I located the registration code on the right, halfway down the page of world cup rah rah.

I have the Dimo MKV converter which I used once but keep on hand. So I knew what I was getting. I did only a simple test - I'll leave it to the numbers guys to wring out the formats, codex and so forth. Down load from YouTube was fast, but a speed test before and after indicated that I was getting 400 mps service this early morning. Fast is relative and I certainly remember the days not so long ago that speed was a real issue for me. I did a quick trim which used the common sliders. I did not test ISO, casting or video effects.

My beef is that I cannot make my download and work folders stick. I have to enter my choice every time. That's a no go for me - just way too many clicks needed every time. I'll continue using "Any Video Converter" and "Format Factory" as my gotos.

Is this the same as Any Video Converter? (my go to video converter). Looks very similar/same.

Jimmy, I agree with you. I've been using free Any Video Converter for years. It's fast and easy to use. I tested it one time to see how fast it worked. Put 31 music videos from YouTube to convert to MP3's. In less than 2 mins. Any Video Converter was done. Some even had to trim the time down.

......and the licence is for how long ?

GOTD should make it mandatory that developers state this when offering their products.
Some develpers do, but most do not.

John H, John H, This is usually 1 year and the license holder is usually GOTD.

Reply   |   Comment by Johnny  –  Last month  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-15)

John H,

As long as you don't reinstall or upgrade it, the license is good forever. It does not expire.

John H,

I second your polite request.
I have noticed that SharewareonSale always specifies the length of their givaways.

So could GOTD, if they wanted to respond positively to our requests, and thus become a more user-friendly giveaway site.

Johnny, I'm sorry. Where do you see "usually" used in their product description?
