Installed software on Win 7 64-bit system with 8gb ram
ran ok first time and entered registration key - no problems
exit software

try to run a 2nd time and see error message.
Cyberlink PowerDirector
Concurrent User Sessions are not supported.

temporary fix - must go to windows task manager to stop process PDR11.exe and am now able to run again. But each time must kill the process PDR11.exe first in order to run CyberLink PowerDirectory.

How to permanently Fix?
Will uninstall as unable to test further!

Why even offer this? It is just a severely CRIPPLED version of their full application. This seems really out of place here on GAOTD. I'm not even sure what Cyberlink thinks they will gain by putting this stripped down version out there - why would anyone be more inclined to patronize them after fumbling around with this? I would classify this "uselessware."

Will not burn any dvd, seems to be editing only. I have no use for something this crippled. uninstall.

I really don't try out many of the giveaways, i'm very picky so it is even rarer that I uninstall one. this is a huge program which does seemingly very little, or rather, very focused and does not include the broad number features you would normally expect from a GOTD.

Just for the heck of it, I downloaded and installed this GAOTD version. It is seriously crippled. You can not also create a dvd of the work. Cyberlink must have wasted a lot of time for a lot of people today in this forum.
I have uninstalled it.

I am sorry Cyberlink has downgraded its reputation today.

I just checked out SHOTCUT, it is a far cry from what PowerDirecotr (the uncrippled version) can do.

One more rant.

This version "special for GAOTD" will not let you burn a disk. (Go ahead and file up your hard drive with the program if that's OK with you.) "Produce" for these guys means convert your video to a file. But woe until those who expect to make even something as simple as an MPEG file. (Why would anyone expect that!)

If you sign up with a real email address, you will have lots of fun deleting their endless aggressive marketing promos.

I PAID for version 6, 7, 9 and 10! Now they impose the same restrictions on disk burning and MPEG for my paid version because they claim it might be pirated.

Customer service is worthless.

Disgusted with them.

This version feels more like extended use share ware. The video "Fix" section is functional but the "Enhance" section says you can only use it for a limited time then have to upgrade. Tried the "Fit" button and it says the same thing...only works for limited time/upgrade. Found several more buttons/features with the same message.

During video edits received several "media source" errors. Also had aspect ration problems with most files.

Errors and limited use features - not of me. Uninstalled.

For many years now, what is probably your best resource for this entire software category continues to be Videohelp.Com. There you will find reviews, forum discussions, and one-to-one help from knowledgeable people, sometimes even directly from a program's developer. Membership is FREE. While I wouldn't say that their TOOLS section is an *exhaustive* listing (since I can find _some_ programs they don't mention at AfterDawn, SoftPedia, or elsewhere), it is approaching that. I've found out about and picked up dozens of programs there, most of which were free, along with guidance on how best to use them. They don't shun newbies, and have been very helpful to me over the years.

CyberLink PowerDirector 11 provides the most comprehensive tools for creating high quality productions.

Of what? Hot air? Tasty dishes? Film? (Is it safe to surmise the latter, from words like "footage" and "scene" in the next sentence? The third, fourth and fifth sentences are no less obscure.

Why can't the vendor provide a straightforward description instead of enforcing guesswork or spadework on the part of the uninformed reader?

I purchased Power Director 12 recently. I have been using previous versions and there were frequent crashes, BUT VERSION 12 IS WAY MORE STABLE. In fact, there is hardly any crash, which made me lose my unsaved work.
I do have troubles with tech support, but every company (e.g. TurboTax) that farms out such work to India and places, create the same problem, as these tech-support personnel waste a lot of our time and do not seem to have good knowledge. They make you 'go around the mulberry bush',and make you so frustrated that you simply give up.

For example, under "Create Disk", there used to be my favorite 3D templates which were in previous versions, but missing in Ver 12. I spent an awful lot of time trying to explain, and even sent attachments showing what those templates looked like. One answer I got was, those templates were replaced with newer ones, but the newer ones were rather basic compared to those I found missing - why would they regress?
It should have been easy task for them to send small files containing those templates, but the tech-support guy seemed to have never seen those templates. I asked him "What! you work for Cyberlink and you don't even know your own stuff? Give me a break!".
BUT, despite this poor support ( which is very troublesome), their Ver 12 is pretty good for home movie making.

I am still looking for a professional video editing program.

Downloaded and installed/registered fine, Win8.1. Although email appeared in less than 30 seconds with key,it also showed up at the top of the web page after you enter your email - so you don't need to use a real email. You also get the choice on the registration page to opt out/in to offers (don't recall offhand which the default was, my bad)

As mentioned, 400mb download. There's 50 mb of sample clips/pictures that you can delete in the program folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDirector11\SampleClips

It also create a folder in documents, probably default location for projects.

Turns out that my HP laptop came with version 10 of this software preinstalled and registered. Never tried it or uninstalled it, despite also being around 400mb. It was one of just a few installed softwares I left on the machine as potentially useful in the future

Before you even think of downloading this, please read the detailed system requirements.
You need a separate graphics card. So if you are using a motherboard with built-in graphics device, then no dice. The software will not run.

How do I know?

I purchased PowerDirector (Pro) for my desktop several years ago. I also purchased newer versions twice. It was handy for video editing without a Mac and did a good job. It was pretty easy to use.

But when I updated the desktop to Win 8, PowerDirector no longer worked correctly. They have "free and easy" plugins for MPeg output and disk burning, but you have to "activate" those features. These features had been included in my liscense but no longer worked. And their site essentially accused me of trying to pirate the software. Attempts to contact their customer service to resolve this were completely ignored or required me to submit my purchase proof. Since I did not buy directly from Cyberlink they essentially locked me out of the program I had been using for years.

Now, if I try to burn a video I can't. I have to export some other format like AVI :>(, then convert to ISO or MPEG with a different program :>(, then burn the ISO with a different program or export to youtube with a different program :<(. It is all hateful. I am sour...

Like others have said here, MPEG is pretty basic and should not be a separate purchase.

With respect to their special "discount" of 10% off to purchase PowerDirector12, they repeatedly offer that or better when you get on their list. You will see lots of ads and promos appearing.

Not happy with the program or company.

With the software missing so many of the popular/standard video file types, are users suppose to just "assume" it will also work with those file types? That's like selling a car which you can kick the tires and look under the hood...but, sorry no test drive, ok...just in the parking lot. I pass...to sketchy.

Years ago I received Cyberlink package with a DVD-drive. My experiencies:
- uses enormous amounts of space in disk and registry
- very aggressive and annoying marketing
- removal of the package requires skills and tools exceeding that of a
"man of the street". It really penetrates deep in the system.
- on the other hand, works OK as long as one wishes to keep it.

Wouldn't have bothered to download if I had known it was such a crippled version of their software which appears to have been produced purely for GAOD, in my view this is totally against the spirit of this site.
In my attempts to use it the repeated messages telling me that it was not available in this version were so frustrating that I gave up trying to test it.
The review, kindly posted by Karl, made me eager to test this program, what a letdown!
Doubt this company has made many friends with today's offering, a shame as appears to have potential.

@Karl
This does NOT install as a native 64-bit version. At least not on my Win7 64-bit OS.

This is still a great video editor even if it does not support Blu-ray, 3D, AVCHD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MKV, FLV & 4K. It's good for amateurs to give it a try and learn how to use such software, but advance users may pass this one because of the lack of format support.

This program, and only this program put me in to contact with the term aspect ratio error. For some reason the programmers think dat the aspect ratio must equal the number of pixels in width divided by the number pixels in height. But the aspect ratio is independent of these numbers (otherwise we would not need an aspect ratio setting!). This is a major thing, because this program hits the user with an aspect ratio conflict error wherever height/width does not match the setting in aspect ratio, and won't accept it. Also, if you get it to make a 16:9 movie, aspect ratio is not set, so in vlcmediaplayer you have to manually adjust it.... It is totally unusable.

CyberLink PowerDirector has always received top rankings in comparative tests by CNet, PCMag and other sites.

7-8 years ago, I purchased the latest version and installed it on a high-spec Dell Optiplex. Software prices were a lot higher these days but I needed a very good video editor and thought of buying the best. Unfortunately, the program crashed my computer every time I used it and, after many efforts to make it work properly, I had to write it off and buy the Ulead VideoStudio, also very expensive.

Part 2 of the story: Earlier this year I replaced my computer with a Dell XPS 8700, Intel i7 processor, 16GB RAM etc, all in all a very high specification machine. Newer versions of PowerDirector continued to rank very high in reviews and I thought of trying it again because the Ulead VideoStudio was very old and didn't perform very well after so many years.

Instead of buying PowerDirector, I downloaded a copy to try it first. Surprisingly, I had the same problems with continual crashes. I was really fed up, uninstalled it and bought an advanced video editor (I will not mention which one to avoid advertisement). I am happy since then and will never go near CyberLink again.

I'm sorry to disagree with the positive comments above but just wanted to relay my experience. I have not tried today's offering and will not do so but wish good luck to those who will. After all, they have nothing to lose as it is for free. They may be more lucky than me.

Wishes for a nice weekend to everyone and to the GAOTD team who have offered me hundreds of useful applications so far and continue to do so.

Try this FREE GEM, dudes:

http://www.shotcut.org

It's a very powerful but also easy to use open source and cross-platform video editor (more suitable for LINUX users), with a nice collection of video properties editing functions (add comments, modify the aspect ratio etc..) and advanced custom video filters (Blur, Color Grading, Crop, Diffusion, Glow, Invert Colors, Mirror, Opacity, Rotate, Saturation, Sepia Tone, Sharpen, Size and Position, Stabilize, Text, Vignette, Wave, White Balance), designed to enhance the quality of your videos.

It also offers a set of audio filters (Balance, Copy Channel, Downmix, Gain, Normlize, Pan, Swap Channels) in case you need to adjust several sound issues in your final edited video file.

With this tool users are able to convert their video to other formats like M4A, MXF, VOB, FLV, MP4, M2T, MPG, AVI, MOV, OGG, WEBM, and others.

Supports many image formats (BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, SVG, TGA, TIFF), image sequences and video wipe transitions (bar, barn door, box, clock radial, diagonal, iris, matrix and custom gradient image), as well as OpenGL GPU-based image processing and multi-core parallel image processing when not using GPU and frame-dropping is disabled.

In addition to that, you can even test your MLT XML files, since this app allows you to open and play them as clips, before streaming them using the network protocol scheme, address port and parameters as an URL address (HTTP, HLS, RTMP, RTSP, MMS, UDP).

It works perfectly with Win 8.1.2. No problems.

@ Adif #4

No, I do not work for cyberlink... The limitations are written in the descriptive text. If you need a perfect working video solution for .AVI, MPEG-4 and you don't use a BlueRay 3D, than you have everything, what you need with this download free of charge. This is a promotion of the "real thing". I have no problems with that. It produces (in my test) .MKV as output.

Even the slide show part is missing some transitions, but it is still a good slideshow maker.

There is no LE version for sale on Cyberlink's site, so I can't see how they put a price on it.

I've used V10 for a while and it was generally pretty good.

I tried V12 earlier this year and found that whilst the marketing talked if vast improvements in speed, I actually found it slower on conversions by up to 30%.

If you have a different version then this will install side by side.

On the basis that Cyberlinks marketing is worrying, I'll pass on this one this time.

¿PowerDirector 11 Limited Edition?
First of all, “Limited Edition” does NOT EXIST on their web site. So, this is NOT a GiveAway. You can see here this does not exist as a commercial software:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/compare_en_US.html

The second unbelievable thing is that it is the “limited edition” of an old version of the program.

Big thumb down for me. Thanks, Cyberlink.

This is one of the best video editing tools out there, but latest Version is v 12.

What's new in v 12:

http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/news_en_US.html

Besides that this Special Edition does not support Blu-ray, 3D, AVCHD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MKV, FLV & 4K: so if you need to edit such video formats forget this GAOTD and look elsewhere.

Users' guide:
http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/user_guide/powerdirector/11/PowerDirector_UG_ENU.pdf

Overall it's a great tool but, given the above limitations, this special edition is just above average in my view.

I'll stick with Wondershare Video Editor program given away for FREE a few weeks ago.

As FREE VIDEO editor I recommend Windows Movie Maker:

Downloaded some time... then installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.2 Pro 64 bit system. The program installs in native 64bit mode.

A Taiwanese company with name&address and a picture of a nice lady behind the reception desk.

CyberLink's worldwide headquarters are located in Taipei, Taiwan, with regional operations offices in North America, Japan, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The company has 700 employees worldwide, with more than 500 engineers in product design and development.

Today's GiveAway is something special. It is not the latest build, but a very good and reliable software, which was put on the market in October 2012.

There are so many excellent reviews to read, that I cannot add something new. Look for the ""CyberLink PowerDirector 11 Ultra" tests.

Even if this is called LE (a "light edition", this is basically the program with the "ultra" features. You need a fast computer.

CyberLink continues to impress with its high-power enthusiast video editing software, with cutting edge capabilities like support for Ultra High Definition (4K) and 3D video formats.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372982,00.asp

The software in version 11 is on sale on Amazon around $30. With the installer comes a special offer for Power Director 12 Ultra, bundled with Audio Director 4 and Power Director Mobile for Euro 49,99.

I have used an older version since long and I am happy to replace this today free of charge. No, no reboot.

Thank you GAOTD and Cyberlink. Have a nice weekend!

Pros

Fast preview of edits and effects.
3D and 4K editing and output capability
Easy to import video and picture files
64-bit native code.
Uses graphics card acceleration and multiple CPUs.

Cons

Does not support Blu-ray, 3D, AVCHD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MKV, FLV & 4K.

Really? most of those are a given in any modern film editing software. I was getting quite excited because I just downloaded some FLV movies made from 8mm film back in the 1950's, I saw FLV and was about to download this and then when to the start of the line... "does not..."

Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to give this a miss, other past offerings will allow me to get the history of my village online while this one cannot.

BUT... wouldn't it be fantastic if the authors went the extra mile and did add those formats, OK, the file to download might be approaching on gigabyte, but it would be real value for money.

Not tested, but I hope my comment inspires the authors to "get'r done" and present us with one program to do it all. I'd actually buy it then. Thanks anyhow.

Have a nice day. :)
