I don't think so. You cannot take a crummy source input and turn it into high quality output.

Ok, is this really made for XP?
1. Installation went fine (after installing the dreaded .NET Framework 4) but registration window never worked (kept saying "Currently no service available or internet connection is broken.") so I'm stuck with the "free" version as a result. (BTW, how could I post this if my "internet connection is broken"?)
2. When I tried to run the program, it crashed ("CinemaHD 4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.")
3. Attempting to uninstall fails as well (crashes I suppose?).
Had to use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it. Not impressed....

It looks like a very nice program, but after installing and registering it I realised that I had not told it to go onto the 'D' drive (I have an SSD for drive C and don't like installing programs there). So I attempted to uninstall and do it again. During the uninstall process it asked for details of why I was uninstalling but I was unable to answer all the questions. I don't think this program is quite as clean as we are led to believe. After several attempts I was able to reinstall it but this time there was no place to enter the registration code a second time - it seems to be still registered from the previous attempt and it was still on the C:\ drive...... I am a little under impressed. Ron

Also requires .NET Framework 4 which the program will automatically install during the installation (on XP SP3). Didn't see that requirement mentioned here or on the engelmann.com website.

Install was easy on Win 10 Pro. Registration took 4 mins including email wait time. Works on win 10 and they offered plenty of resources at extra cost but it works fine. Thanks GOTD and CinemaHD 4!

CinemaHD 4 converts videos of nearly all source formats from one standard to another. The application supports reading and conversion of DVD-videos, single DVD-chapters as well as video formats AVI, WMV, MP4, 3GP, VOB, MPG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2), MPEG-4 (DivX 3.11 to 6, Xvid, Nero Digital etc.) and MJPEG

What am I missing here? I use an inexpensive Chromecast to mirror anything on my computer wirelessly to my TV, no muss, no fuss, and no converting of formats. Why would I ever need this software, free or otherwise?

Hi.
I used PAL DVD.
The output was 747MB and lasted 17 minutes for a 530MB file, 57:30s, MP4.
I have also used a well-known free program, win-ff, with PAL-DVD-widescreen settings (I don't know if they are the same) and it lasted 13minutes, with output 683MB.
I've tried both on my DivX reader (and TV): it seems the result has been better with CinemaHD, without the stutterings I'm experiencing (now) with the win-ff file.
But I saw only first minute with the other CinemaHD instance of the file.

I've been using GOTD for over 5 years and I have trusted the balance of approve and disapprove. But something strange has happened recently. After a long period of 50-50, suddenly the approvals are very high while the comments do not support such a rating. I miss the great reviews we had for so long as well. I'm still a GOTD fan but no longer trust the percentages.

Hi.
That's probably because when you'll give a negative comment, you will ALSO justify it.
With the old system, everyone could have given a negative vote without justification.
I'm not sure about the old system because I never gave a negative vote with that one, but I'm quite sure about the new system because I gave a negative vote recently.

I miss the former GAOTD way with the feedbacks from Ashraf, Giovanni, Karl. Pitty, don't know why GAOTD changed it's style.

GOTD Fan I don't trust the percentages either. I am still using some programs that many of the purists had negative comments on. The Lasso Giveaway is one of them which I upgraded and thoroughly enjoy and have been able to push my 4 Ghz chip to well over 5 Ghz without exceeding 44 degrees fully loaded for hours.

I continue to test many of the programs here and do put them up on my FB Page for my friends to consider and the "percentages" are probably of no value on most days anyway as they don't take into consideration abilities of the user or their PC. Long gone are the days that the trusted reviews and even some of those didn't square up to my findings or needs. The people making them are also long gone. I recently tried to install XP on one of my older mother boards because of all Mr. XP's musings! The PC did everything short of jumping off my desk to avoid the infection and blue screen of death. Have a great day!

Seventy five percent thumbs up at 118 to 40, yet about 28 or 29 or so of the 32 comments are negative stating the product is slow or hard to register. What happened to GAOTD? BTW, I installed this program back in I think April. It just didn't work well on Windows 7 64. It was slow and no better than others so I uninstalled it. Maybe you will have better luck with your hardware. Mine is an Asus laptop two core with 4 gigs of ram.

Reply   |   Comment by Glen C  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+45)

Glen C It wasn't because you were on a laptop, I too installed the program when it last came around and also had the same results, Win 7 X64 on a quad desktop with 8GB of RAM. I think this program just doesn't like X64 which with GAOTD offering so many good converters its just not worth dealing with so I uninstalled.

Personally of all the ones they have offered here I have to give the Wonderfox converter the highest score, its speed is insane, you can tell it how many cores you want to devote to the conversion, just a really top notch converter.

Do not need another video conversion program but gave this a try anyway because of the "the software converts your videos to high definition and achieves the best possible resolution. With the ODU-technology ". Well, besides the program taking forever to do the conversion (very slow and during that time slows the PC), the result (the output video) was terrible, not only it did not improve the resolution it actual become much worse than the original. Oh, it did increase the size of the of the video screen but became very fuzzy and not as crisp as the original.
vote is biased

Win 7 64U. Registration working now. Got s/n and pasted into app which upgraded from free to full.

UI not intuitive, IMO, but after a bit, I loaded a 720 x 480 MP4 to see how the up res would work. Set to output for Apple TV at full HDx res. Clicked start to get the program going. Nothing happening. No conversion occurring.

It seems to be doing something but 15 minutes the progress bars at at 0 / 0.

IMO, too opaque a UI given the many entrants in this field. Others, often offered here, will work better or heck, work at all.

A problem for all commercial developers of this kind of software is that the money spent by the customer on purchasing it could just as easily go towards the cost of a BluRay player which automatically upscales SD to HD anyway. I've tried various algorithms including this developer's and to be honest found no difference in the performance of its "Object Detection Upscaling" and Lanczos3. Being lazy, then, I stick with the ready hardware solution offered by even the cheapest HD player and don't bother devoting computing time to something I can just sit down and watch out-of-the-box. Others with more time and a more acute eye should however take advantage of today's giveaway and try it for themselves. Everyone's mileage is different.

I submitted the compressed package, and the unzipped files, to WinDefender, SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and EmsiSoft Emergency Kit (those programs are installed or portable on this PC): no problems detected.
I submitted the setup.exe to virustotal, metascan and Jotti: no problems detected.

The setup worked fine on windows 10 x64 (standard/home).
When the installation finished, it opened a developer's webpage saying "Thanks for the installation and lots of fun with CinemaHD 4 Free." (and other things).
It also opened directly its WebReg.exe application to register the product.
Given that my firewall blocks every outgoing connections, I got this message "currently no service available or internet connection is broken.".
I put the WebReg.exe in the exceptions of my firewall, then I uninstalled the program and it opened a developer's webpage saying "You have uninstalled CinemaHD 4 Free." (and other things), then it opened the feedback form to know why I uninstalled it, but it was only in German (I don't know German, sorry).
I reinstalled the program and got the correct form to insert my data.
I received the license key, the email contained all the informations about the developer (and they are also in the website), like Karl (and other users) was used to like and check.
I copied the license key but I couldn't paste it in the apposite entries, hence I had to do it manually.
When I click on "add file", it opens also MS OneDrive (but this happens also with other programs... Maybe because the program isn't already fully compatible with windows 10? I don't know).

Additional note(s) about the price of this product:
- on GAOTD webpage, there is written "The program is available for $39.99" (€36.82).
- on developer's webpage, there is written "Buy now for only 29.99€".
- when you uninstall the program, on developer's webpage that will be opened, there is written "Regular price 19,99€ - now for only 7,99€ (Order now - offer ends in less than 24 hours!)".

I'm keeping this program and I'll use it later.
Many thanks GAOTD and Engelmann Media GmbH !

Anyway, it is now registered and I had to insert the license manually.

But if you check the slideshow on CinemaHD webpage you'll see "Windows 10 Compatible".
Furthermore, me and other users installed it succesfully on windows 10.

Registration has 2 parts, and that's cumbersome.
I'm testing it with converting (only the first ~12 min to 4K mp4) a .ts file of a stream I recorded with VLC, .... no good, nothing is happening after 5 min, progress is 0% but CPU is 63% by cinemaHD process. so I will wait to see.
