There is a silly default setting of 0 yes zero decimal places! Currencies like US$ or Euros or GB£ have fractional values of cents or pence and SHOULD be displayed and input-able in ALL finance programs if one is to use it to keep track of income and expenditure accurately!

While in the Settings tab don't forget to uncheck "Check for updates once a day" as the giveaway license does not permit free updates.

You're right. Try and use GnuCash or HomeBank, they are free to use and GnuCash is also open source. Both are professional made and much better then Cash and the City.

This giveaway came just at the right time for me as I'm looking after an elderly relative and needed an easy way of keeping track of accounts. This fits the bill perfectly (pun intended). Thanks.

This software installed as version " 1.7.1.1 shareware / Licensed copy with no updates " despite what is described (v1.7.0) here on this GAOTD page.
Be sure to uncheck " Check for updates once a day " under Settings tab.
The available languages / localizations are English, Spanish, Russian, Greek - with an (sic!) option as well.
The program is not linked with your bank accounts, so it's a simple graphic / tables representations of your money balance, including any income and outcome "event", which you can enter anytime and also define for yourself.
It seems to be still in an early stage of development.

You are right about version number. The special preactivated version for GOTD was 1.7.1 actually.
About "Check for updates once a day" option, it only displays a message box with a list of updates when a new version is available for download. So it won't update automatically until you make it intentionally.

Michael, the installer from their website installs 1.7.0 shareware 15 day trial, this giveaways installer is a pre-licensed special build for the giveaway, also possibly an unannounced beta build.

Says it works on Windows XP - its does NOT works on Windows Xp
Gives an error:
"CashAndTheCity.exe is not a valid win32 application"
Could the Author please clarify.

You are right. Current version of the application works starting from Windows 7.
If you really need one for Windows XP then I can suggest to install one of the old versions that must work on WinXP.

Mr, the installer is built to be executable on Windows NT 6.1 or above i.e. Windows 7 or above.

The installed executable is loadable under XP BUT the file "CashAndTheCity.exe.config" specifies it need .NET 4.6.1 which is ok for Vista but not for XP... It is likely, though not tested, that the "CashAndTheCity.exe.config" can be modified to require .NET 4.0 so it could run under XP if .NET 4.0 client is installed on it...

This just shows the developer needs to decide what versions of Windows they are going to support and make the installer, the program executable and .NET requirements are consistent with the published system requirements. It's not really that difficult and they should also state on their website the download is just a 15 day trial and publish the price ON THE WEBSITE and not leave it until installation to inform that the product downloaded is an unannounced 15 day trial and the price is only ever disclosed after letting it open a purchase web page in the default browser.

Robert J Bressler, there is no information on what purchasing at $14.30 from USA gets you, no mention on if it's a lifetime license or if there is any entitlement to any free updates to future versions. Only the installers EULA states that license is valid for use on up to 2 different computers and that's it.

jugem, Apparently the latest Micosoft Windows Defender blocks all downloads from publishers that it does not know. I use Bitdefender as my Anti-virus Security, so I'm not concerned, You can go into your App & Browser control and turn off the top toggle switch. When it is off, it warns you, but lets you make the decision of whether to install the program or not.
