I downloaded CaptureIt on 11/3 and have it installed. However, when I load the program it says it is 14 day trialware and requires a code - which I don't have for Registration. Did I miss this code on 11/3? Can you provide it?
Thanks a lot

It got a 93/100 by PCWorld.

It would be nice to have a PORTABLE software that can be run from a USB flash drive and can capture screenshots as well as screen/cursor activity video.

Freez, as mentioned by poster #131, may be an interesting alternative.
However, its from an unknown company in Asia, i.e. need to check for malware before installing it.

Another alternative is Jing at www.jingproject.com

Sorry - if Sh-PrtScr or Alt-PrtScr and IrfanView don't work, then I resort to ScreenShotWizard, sswizard.exe (www.lamantine.com)- works like a charm and does pretty much all I want... and it's free!

It is absolutely astounding how many people post the exact same ludicrous info about using PrintScreen on the keyboard and pasting into MS Paint.

It was CLEARLY explained (several times) how this program differs and offers several different and additional features over and above PrintScreen.

Do none of you read any posts here before hitting 'submit'?

That is one of the most frustrating aspects of reading through the posts here, having to skim through the same drivel over and over again. People need to learn to read prior posts or not post at all.

To #127, Renegade. The TNT Screen Capture is impressive but is not capable of scrolling entire window witch is a standard feature on a very slick FSCapture. May be you know how to do it? Thanks.

One thing that CaptureIt will do is to grab more than is visible. Using the "capture scrolling window" tool I have just grabbed this entire page. It did take two grabs, first one went down to comment 67, second grab I started at comment 66 and it went to end.

For me that feature alone makes it indispensable - it'd be a massive job using print screen and Paint :)

Looks to me like someone jacked the code from "Easy Capture" and now their trying to make money off someone else's freeware! Thats, freeware thats one version newer & just a bit better.

This makes me wonder what some folks will do to make a little money. No thanks! Uninstalled with Revo. Did I mention "Easy Capture" runs great on Vista where this one seems buggy?

Hi there !
CaptureIt.info domain was (very) recently registered (13-Sep-2008) see http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.captureit.info%2F&tld=com
Since EasyCapture.com is WhoisGuard Protected. I suppose that this one is the original ( EasyCapture )
Nevertheless the programs are identical; the developer should have decided to go commercial with CaptureIt . Probably not big deal but that put GAOTD in the embarrassing situation of giving away a ... freeware .
It's not GAOTD's fault, anyway .
Keep the good work !

Go to Setting>Capture Setting, under the capture to tab, look at the default folder!

Will try this just for fun, but I think a software of this kind is not worth the money.
You can do any screen captures (except maybe video) using Paint, Print Screen and a little more effort. And all for free.
There are also countless freewares which have the same features.

Watch out if you use multiple monitors
It will only work on your primary monitor. Huge let down in my opinion, Also watch out it will add itself to your startup without warning, didn't keep it on my computer long enough to find out if there was an option for removing that because the dual monitor thing is a deal breaker.

I downloaded this (CaptureIt),EasyCapture and FastStone to compare.
I need to capture a long, wide scrolling window.
Couldnt make CaptureIt or EasyCapture do what I wanted.
FastStone did what took me more than 45 minutes (capture 8
screenshots and crop and merge into one .bmp) in LESS than 5 seconds.
FastrStone scrolled vertically - top to bottom
and then scrolled to the right
and then top to bottom again.

Thanks GOTD. for leading me to the solution I was looking for.

There's a button on your keyboard to capture the screen and then you can use any software on the planet, even MS Paint, to select a rectangle of the area you want, you can add in text boxes and the other features of this software too.

I honestly cannot see any point in this at all. Normally I download it and try it but today just seems like a joke.

To #30, Brian Zachary
"Sorry, but this program doesn’t do anything that isn’t already built into Windows."
Not much thought went into that comment, Brian! How would you get manage to capture a portion of the screen? How would you manage to grab a screen shot from a video? Or a scrolling window?
This is a pretty handy little piece of software with no pretensions - it just does its job with a clean and simple UI. Hey, Brian... perhaps a download and a quick run through it's various options might help you make a more useful post. Leave the crap to kelly.
He's good at it.

Here is what I did:
I downloaded the file, ran the activation, and installed the program. I read reviews from earlier so I was not surprised when it asked to be activated. I ran the activation again, however when I went to run the program it stopped responding. So I right clicked the program to change the compatibility setting to run for XP service pack 2 and run as administrator. The program did not stop responding, however it asked to be registered and only gave 15 days.
I don't understand why the activation failed.

I did try it out in trial mode and it is not worth $30 or really anything for that matter.
It does not capture the Vista sidebar or the taskbar.
Anything you need from your screen can be obtained more easily with pint screen and paint.
Here are some pictures taken with it:

5. http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/9594/activewindowtt3.png

I would not buy it.
All thumbs down on this one.

Excellent tool. Installed correctly, a lean foot-print (doesn't eat up hard disk and memory).
There are times I need to capture a scrolling window, like a web page that scrolls down. Taking individual snapshots with printscreen are a pain and require editing. CaptureIT has a scrolling page capture that is really cool. No editing required. I'm impressed. I'm recommending this to my friends.

If you ever answer someone else's question on how to do something on their computer, CaptureIT allows you to just copy the image of the button they are supposed to click on which clarifies the result.

Hello again,

First let me apologize for not writing a full review on this earlier. The thing is, I stay up till 2 AM in the morning (because of DST times now) and if a program does not work properly the first time, I do not have the time or the patience that late at night to try to troubleshoot.

But I read comments after mine, and decided to give this program another shot. I used RevoUninstaller to uninstaller, then installed via run as admin as CaptureIt registered properly. Alternatively, EasyCapture is definetly the same as CaptureIt...but it is always free, I just tested them both.

Back on topic: I just wrote a full review on CaptureIt/EasyCapture:

Pros:
* Little to no learning curve.
* Can capture full screen with a click of a button.
* Can capture a user-defined region.
* Can capture specific windows.
* Can capture scrolling windows.
* Has the ability to edit/annotate screenshots before saving them.
* You can set hotkeys.

Cons:
Does not have a free form capturing tool.

Registers properly:
Yes...with difficulty. Gotta install as admin, or try install/reinstall many times.

Free Alternative Software:
<a href="http://www.easy-capture.com/"Easy Capture (the EXACT same thing as CaptureIt)
Snipping Tool ***Vista Home Premium and above only (comes pre installed)
FastStone Capture
Jing
Screenshot Capture

Recommendation:
If you have Vista Home Premium and above, just use Snipping tool, unless snipping tool is missing some key features you want - then get FastStone Capture. For everyone else: use FastStone Capture. If you do not like FastStone Capture, get CaptureIt/EasyCapture. If you like using programs that are very well coded, have a shiny look to them, or you just need to be able to send your screenshot directly to screencast.com, flickr.com or your own FTP server, try Jing.

I need to be able to do a screen capture of a submenu from a main menu, and today's Giveaway does not seem to do this.

Does anyone know of any freeware screen capture titles which will allow you to take a snapshot of a submenu? (For example, when you click on "File" in windows apps, you get a submenu.) Need this capability for a training video.)

thanx...

If you do any technical writing, such as software manuals, tools with advanced selection features like this software has are essential. PrintScreen and MSPaint (or worse GIMP) simply don't cut it. TechSmith SnagIt is the defacto standard. This looks like a great competitor.

The software corrupted my Vista 32 Home Premium PC. Installed fine but then I kept getting message, the program is closing. I uninstalled it but the remnants of CaptureIt still remain. When I re-boot the PC, it gives a window with missing CaptureIt some file and then freezes. I installed it almost 3am when the software was released so I guess I am their beta tester. Never again, will I install GAOTD software until the end of the giveaway when other people have posted their experience with the software. I use SnagIt v7 which has served my screen capture need for years.

For those having trouble registering -- NOTE: I activated as Administrator (Vista Home Premium), then ran Setup as Administrator. Installation was very smooth. YOu are right, if you click on register it has a place for your name and registration #; HOWEVER, if you will notice, at the top of the program, it shows that it is a Registered Version, so you shouldn't have to worry.

BTW, this is a fantastic program and I will get a lot of use out of it as I am doing screen captures all the time and need to put notations on many of them. Thanks again GOTD.
