Well I would love to fix this:

When trying to run some files I get this error:
A REQUIRED PRIVILEGE IS NOT HELD BY THE CLIENT

Tried running as ADMIN ( I am logged as ADMIN anyway)
Tried changing different settings for the file, nothing works.
I get this error sometimes for some executables.

Any ideas anyone?

Soft user, If you are on Win 10 then I do have a solution, it might also be an issue for 7 and 8 but I have Win 10. I had the same issue. It seems that even when you are the admin, Win 10 has turned off some admin functions for the user. Do you have the pro version? I can't remember the area I found the solution in, but you have to enable some system functions to allow you full control over your computer system. Just take a cruise in the Administrative Tools, you will find some interesting things that Windows do not want you to have control with. This issue had me frustrated for months and calling the Windows help desk wasn't any help, the person I talked to said it was a software issue not a Windows issue when I very much knew that it was a Windows issue. I had to do many internet searches to figure out the solution.

Watch out this developer has not taught the program about all the environmental variables for standard folder locations. So certain perfectly valid registry keys will be flagged as errors because the program does not know how to parse variables in paths e.g.

%CommonProgramFiles%\System\ado\msado26.tlb

this program thinks that is an abandoned entry but it really points to:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado26.tlb"

The file exists exactly where the key says it is but the program is not built to understand the perfectly legal and legitimate registry entries path syntax.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there will be hundreds if not thousands of similar false errors that IF you allow thus to delete them all certain core modules within windows will cease to function and may not even load at next boot up... which might speed up booting but at the expense of windows operating properly with all security layers intact. At this point in time I am going to stop searching through the list of errors simply because in my opinion this is not programed by a developer knowledgable enough about the windows registry and officially documented registry usage to safely and competently design and impliment registry diagnostic and repair/cleaning tool.

Never trust any registry cleaner! I have stopped using all registry cleaners ever since windows XP where they do more harm than good. Removing few hundreds or thousands of 'invalid' or 'not used' registry entries unlikely to make much difference to your system performance these days since processing power and memory access is so much faster than the past.

The key provided activates the program without issue or need for internet connection. While it is unlikely there will be an update any time soon from the previous development history it is advisable to delete autoupdate.exe or rename it or block its access to the internet to prevent it ever checking for an update which we would not be entitled to with this giveaway license.

I note that the change log shows this version is two years old and the bugs people are reporting today should have been fixed by now... so looks like this product has been abandoned from any development investment.

From the in program change log:

"v1.0.1.4 - October 13 2017

The best one is "Registry first Aid v10! " , and you still may have some issues in the end. Best not to touch the Registry!

K_B, have you cast your vote and made sure the vote reason was one that counted if voting thumbs down? At the time of my posting only a total of 51 user rating votes had been cast so only a few percent of the downloads have bothered to cast a vote! If people do not cast counted user votes the values reported are simply never going to be representative of users opinions.

"and any error messages you saw whilst using your computer previously will be gone"

They cannot be serious. There is no software that can do this.
OK, there is. It's "format c:"

Reply   |   Comment by Jeffrey Needleman  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

Jeffrey Needleman, Heh, there might be one or two folks who don't know what the "format" command does. I hope they don't decide to give it a try.

Reply   |   Comment by mark_wr  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

mark_wr, chances are if they do not know what the format command is they would not know how to make it run with elevated rights or launch a command prompt in the first place. Appart from the format command cannot make all errors go away as the first reboot after a sucessfull reformat of the system drive would be cannot find a bootable drive.... which is an error! This program cannot possibly fix all windows errors, even microsoft cannot do that... best they can offer is in place upgrade install to reset the installation or a DISM restore health using the clean WIM image.
Still trying to work out why this is a unique tool...The marketing lies are not unique, what it claims to do is not unique...

Registry files are very small and do not consume much in the way of storage space. Unless you are an expert user it is not a wise thing to interfere with these files, removing the wrong registry file(s) can severely damage your system. Windows "knows" which files are valid or invalid and will simply ignore the redundant files, so-called registry cleaning will not improve your systems performance. In my experience the only time invalid registry files cause problems is when the user has attempted to modify them. Best advice is if it ain't broken don't fix it.

The only time in my experience has a change to the registry improved performance is if there is a key pointing to a program that is not in that location and Windows searches for it.

System Internals from Microsoft which is free identifies the start up issue and allows you to deselect it to see the improvement. Avoid touching the wow64 errors as they are/were a false positive.

The utility you should use is autoruns.

Use this with extreme caution. The claim that "Once your Registry has been cleaned up, you will likely notice a performance boost and any error messages you saw whilst using your computer previously will be gone." is quite simply, a lie.

It is exceptionally rare for a registry cleaner to actually fix any errors or problems you have with your computer. In addition to this, it's much rarer for a registry cleaner to make your computer run any faster or better. No matter how many hundreds or even thousands of so called errors registry cleaners find, deleting them is usually pointless.

Today's giveaway, just like at least 99% of other registry cleaners, will sometimes mistakenly think that valid registry keys are errors and want to delete them. Understandably, sometimes deleting valid registry keys will actually cause problems. It's more likely that today's giveaway would cause problems, than fix them.

If you are having issues with your computer, running tweaking.com's excellent Windows Repair software is a good starting point. Not only is it free, it can actually fix a lot of PC issues and it's exceptionally rare for it to cause issues. There is a paid Pro version too, but you can do all the repairs you need with the free version.

Completely agree, I've been using Tweaking.com for a long time and it has had the ability to recover and repair PCs that we thought would only be fixed by a complete reinstall.

I highly recommend it.

Roger, The tweaking.com repair program is fine except that it totally messed up my network needing a system restore afterwards.

Reply   |   Comment by Rubycat  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Roger, Tweaking.com's repair corrupted my network and only restores parts without the paid version. I had to do an Aomei system restore to get things back.

Reply   |   Comment by Rubycat  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Rubycat, you could have just restored the registry with Windows Repair. It creates a full registry backup before running any repairs.

Reply   |   Comment by Roger  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Roger, I should have tried to restore the registry but did not. However, I am skeptical that the registry was the only problem. Permissions Backup and Restore of the Registry and File System is available only in the Pro edition and I wonder if it would be a permissions problem messing up the network. I tried network reset but it did not work after allowing the network to be discoverable. That computer just did not show up anywhere. Even Synchredible backup refused to work to that computer. Teamviewer did allow me to connect to it. All is well now though after the Aomei restore to before I tried the Tweaking Repair.
