Despite having downloaded it, thinking it should be useful, after reading the comments, I went back and deleted it without installing. No point in wasting space on my hard disk....

If what others have reported is correct -- ie problems reported by FF and Chrome, WHY didn't GOTD CHECK the software, for heaven's sake?? This sort of thing should not be happening, and will bring GOTD into disrepute -- along with the developer.

The publisher's site loaded fine for me in my Firefox Quantum. The problem others are having may be due to the publisher's use of Relevant Knowledge in all of their installers. Should you want to try out any of the publisher's programs I would recommend to use only the portable versions that require no installation.

If KCSoftware are real company, I hope they renew their vision for future, how their software works and communicate with end user. Too much things goes in the background, it's not acceptable in current software era.

Although we may hear from from the GOTD team or the developer, the warning messages we are most likely all getting at the site is enough to keep me away. At the very least it doesn't give a first impression.

John Davidson,

"... the warning messages we are most likely all getting at the site is enough to keep me away. At the very least it doesn't give a first impression."

I have no idea if the site was hacked, & of course can't say it's a false positive warning, but your reaction, which I don't think is uncommon, is exactly why a group of people might report an innocent site, whether out of malice or just for grins & giggles. If something can be abused on-line, e.g. Google's Safe Browsing, it's [sadly] guaranteed that it will be.

I wanted to download the giveaway, but after reading some comments, I'll pass. Unless KCSoftwares address those issues... I'll wait until later if they do. If so, then I might download it... if not... I'll pass, yet again :)

Installed in a Win10Pro x64.

In this Windows there are codec's installed.
No trouble to load a file, only AVI:

The control of the cursor was not fine; also to be controlled by Shift/Ctrl and -> or <- (cursor); that was better
After settings the markers the cut could be saved:

After that, the program works with the new part.

While Firefox flags it as a deceptive site, apart from ESET and Trust, Virustotal clears the installation as ok. All Virustotal detection engines also cleared the site ( 0/67)

Sorry but I haven't the time to try the software

Firefox has blocked kcsoftwares.com on advice from Google Safe Browsing as it has been reported as a deceptive site, so great care is needed if visiting this site

Robert, I have the same warning with Google Chrome

Reply   |   Comment by Mes  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+55)

Robert, Actually, I've come to be fed-up with this feature of Google Chrome (in my case) - it regularly tries to block access to websites that are perfectly innocuous. While there are probably some of these websites that should be blocked, one could also argue that any decent third-party AV application would do it anyway.

They seem to take a jackhammer approach to this, which may be effective, but certainly isn't efficient - way too many perfectly harmless websites are 'blocked' (Similar to the MO of free lower quality AV software like Avast etc, with their many false positives).

For that reason I simply came to the point where I had to disable it - no one, myself included, asked for this 'service' (though it clearly will benefit Google in their data-gathering operation).

To disable : Google Chrome / Settings / Scroll down & click 'Advanced' / Privacy & Security : Disable "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites".

Firefox likely has a similar option.

Not recommended unless you do have another good anti-malware application already installed, that will do that for you already. If you do have that however, then this unwarranted interference is something one can do without.

PS There's absolutely nothing wrong with the kcsoftwares.com website, as an example.
As to AVI Toolbox : I already have excellent freeware installed, which I'd used many times, that covers all
of its functions.

Robert,

While it's possible for most any site to be hacked or compromised, KCSoftwares has been offering software via GOTD for years, earning a rep as a trustworthy developer. It's also possible for an individual or individuals to report bad behavior out of malice or for revenge.

From Google's Safe Browsing Advisory page: "Google uses automatic algorithms and user feedback to compile lists of sites that may be dangerous... If you believe we’ve missed a social engineering page, you can report this using Report Phishing Page. If you believe we’ve included a page on our phishing list in error, you can report this using Report Incorrect Phishing Warning."

It's not like a Google tech went over the site with a fine tooth comb and found problems.

Louis, Just curious..if there is nothing wrong with kcsoftwares.com website, why hasnt GOTD also included a homepage of the company as they always do...only the third time in many years I have noticed no Home page...that and my Opera browser also bounced the site as suspicious.

No one should take advice on safe browsing from the biggest privacy rights violator on the planet. No you and certainly not firefox.

Reply   |   Comment by Jake  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

DJ, They do include the homepage of the company, right up there where they normally put it at top right, under "Homepage" :
http://kcsoftwares.com/

These are all false positives, I prefer not to let a browser company dictate to me what I can and can't view, no matter how much I like the browser itself (their sources are often suspect, to say the least, and are probably shared between Chrome, FF & Opera) -- I rather rely on a good anti-malware program to do that for me, in a more efficient manner.

I use Eset, which does prevent access to dangerous websites and to which I do pay attention. Eset didn't flag this though. Other posts here shows same by other reputable anti-malware applications and websites. Lately, most of the better AV software are being made available for free, which will do the same (e.g. Bitdefender etc)

This company is well known, has been for years. Clearly a false positive, based on malicious and/or deliberate user/competitor feedback, and proof that a browser is not a reliable indicator of a website's status.

Louis, When I made the comment yesterday, it was not showing...I use Avast as well as Malwarebytes and they did not flag the site..it was not a determination on my part to say whether or not the site was safe, but merely a why it was not showing up....that and why did Opera bounce the site as well...something is fishy...Firefox Quantum did not flag it either.

Sorry I tried it and it did not work. It would not reconise video files and it also changed my browser settings without my knowledge. It tells me to check codecs but I have all the codecs required as I keep all of them up to date. So it must be a faulty program all up. Uninstalled it not wroth it in my opinion.

Taylor,

I'm not going to lie & say AVI Toolbox is an essential part my tool kit -- IMHO it's older tech & there are better apps available -- but it generally does work as intended by the dev when I've tried it.

My concern however is when you wrote: "I have all the codecs required as I keep all of them up to date." A codec needing updated is rather rare unless you're talking about a codec pack -- it's well known that those are prone to cause problems.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

mike, I believe he is saying that he has all the codecs needed and if any new 1's come along (up to date) he installs them...and yes codecs do require updating from time to time.
