even with the missing effects I did find cutting and pasting parts of music very easy. If you make a mistake you can easy restore the last step. I liked the large view of the waveform.
So for very basic editing the LE version is good.
The equalizer is included which can be useful.

The following effects are not available in this version (LE) of AudioDirector7 LE
Phaser, Echo, Flanger, Vocal Transformer, Chorus, Stereo Expander, Vocal removed in music.
So there is no way to test how good these effects are.
To get the missing effects you need to upgrade to the Ultra version for $80.

This is a much cutdown version (LE) of the software, they don't sell a $59 version on their website as far as I can tell. No Effects, some audio adjustments are also missing from this version. Really there is not that much you can do with this software as it is. Full version looks okay, the price is not so bad but still maybe a little steep for some $129.99. Uninstalling!

Can anyone suggest a good, free player / equalizer, emphasis on EQ,the more bands, the better...???...I have noticed that that is something that is rarely in giveaways...Please and Thanx !!!

vanierstein,
my favorite player is AIMP,
very good WinAmp clone, IMHO.

and, yes,
it has 18 bands equalizer
;=)

vanierstein, I personally use Daum Pot Player. It has a steep learning curve, but it is worth it. It is especially good on sound processing. I find the auto settings for videos make most of them look better as well, except for .flv files for some reason - They look worse than in other players.

Kody, Thanks !!!!!! for the reply, and 18-bands is DEFINITELY a step in the right direction,I used to have a 32-band EQ,and I still miss it dearly. I owe you one !!!

While today's giveaway still needs to be tested, recent Cyberlink's donations have been amongst the best pieces of S/W given here. That alone casts a shade of doubt regarding the motive behind some harsh critical remarks made today.

I have a different opinion from other comments that this LE version is not good enough as a giveaway. It is given to you free after all.
Actually I find it too powerful and having too many bells and whistles.
When all you want is just a simple audio editor (portable) with an easy to use graphical interface to cut or join audio splices.

Does anyone know if when this "repairs" audio from (say) an mp4 video file, does it re-encode the video again (so losing quality), or does it just work on the audio, since video formats like mp4 are just containers for separate audio and video?

TIA

Greg

A class video lecture where the speaker talks but students chatting make the background noise. Can i remove the ' background noise' for a video with Audacity? Thanks in advance.

Siva, yes

Reply   |   Comment by lucy  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Siva, it depends upon the way it was recorded... if it was a wired stereo mic recording from the podium with the speaker central in phase between left and right channels and the crowd at random phases all over the soundstage then to some degree you can do the oposite of vocal remove by reversing the phase on one channel and then applying vocal remover, results will vary but if recorded on a smart phones built in mic or a any wired mono microphone then it will always be difficult to pull any one voice out of many voices from a mono microphone with any software.

If I may pop in to assist; in Audacity, you can create a ‘Noise Profile’, which is essentially a ‘picture’ of what you want to take out of the audio – in your example, the background chatting (noise) can be identified and filtered out (for the most part).

To do this:
» Highlight some of the background noise/chatter in the waveform timeline, isolating the noise as much as you can (that is getting ‘only the bad stuff’ in your selection, as much as you can do).
» Then, open up Effects and choose Noise Reduction.
» Now just click on the “Get Noise Profile” button. This ‘takes a picture’ of the noise you want to remove.
» It will close the Noise Reduction window (interface panel), so just go back into Effects and choose Noise Reduction again.
» Now hit the Preview button, to hear how the Default settings are filtering your audio clip, playing with the Sensitivity and other settings, adjusting to your audial satisfaction, saving the results to a file.
That’s it!

I am sorry to assist with this, in a Giveaway of a CyberLink product - I merely wanted to help with something that I specifically utilized in the past and knew about. HTH and GL with it! ~Troy

point 1: LE editions of their products are never retailed so this is not a giveaway of a comercial product but a giveaway of a product that they bundle with OEM hardware at no charge to try and upsell their commercial products.

point 2: They state above "Everything you need to make editing and fixing audio tracks fast and simple!"

If that were true why produce anything other than the LE edition? Since it has "Everything you need"

I'll stick with Audacity.

Important things first, the download includes a downloader application that downloads the real setup.

As usual, LE stands for Light Edition, the things that make it lighter are:

-> Edit -> Adjustment -> Adjust Audio:
- Pitch Bender
- Reverse

-> Edit -> Adjustment -> Apply Effect:
- Dynamic Range Control (DRC)
- Phaser
- Flanger
- Chorus
- Echo
- Vocal Transformer
- Stereo Expander
- Vocal Removal in Music

-> Restore -> Adjustment:
- Clipping Removal
- Click Removal
- Hum Removal
- Hiss Removal

That is all i could spot in a timeframe of short 15 minutes. What do we have there? It's all nags. 14 nags. Why would anyone in their right mind shell out 50 or 60 bucks for a Light Edition that hides so many features behind nag screens, that it's literally unbearable to properly work with it?

I would chose Audacity ten times over this, people will always search for solutions and i'm not talking about piracy, people will simply move on to things that respect their time. Which marketing department would come up with this? A department consisting of music professionals that use such programs themselves vs. people that never worked with such a program and only see dollar signs in their eyes. I can't think of any other company out of the box that teases missing features so much than CyberLink does it. Professionals know very well how important workflow is, no matter in which production cycle, they wouldn't dare to throw 14 nag screens at you, nag screens that are as unobvious as any other feature that actually does work, so you click on it with huge expectations and what you get is a nag that almost feels like desperately trolling it's own users repeatedly. Why not disabling these features beforehand? Why not cutting them out completely? WYSIWYG is definitely not what you get here, all in all, Audacity gets the job done as good, there is no reason to choose this program over it.

Personally, i'm a bit mad now and fed up with this company because they know very well how bugging this is and i can't wrap my head around this edition being actually sold as is with all the nag screens in place.

Other free alternatives: Ardour (comprehensive), WaveShop (moderate), Ocen Audio (lightweight).

kui_, WOW! What a fantastic comment my friend. Thank you for putting yourself through this nightmare offering and saving everyone else from the bother. This company has mastered the "limited edition" routine. I have put myself through their pretend offerings for the last time. It's a shame, they used to be a great company, but have devolved into a sham operation. -- Mister Lee

kui_, Though Audacity is my go-to software...
What about saying something POSITIVE about Audio Director & Cyberlink, huh????
1-It's FREE. (So what if it's a "lighter" version"?)
2- The FX working are pretty decent and can be tweaked etc... Like the "Noise Gate" is great without making the recording sound metallic. And one can import "some" VST's.
3- It's user friendly and personally, I don't find it buggy.
4- One can export sound to Power Director 15.
5- It's a great complement to any other music software.
In conclusion... if GAOTD reviewers keep "bitching" about every software offered on GAOTD... these companies are going to stop offering softwares to people like me who appreciate them.
PLEASE reviewers !!
Your reviews are much appreciated but, please... talk about PRO's & CON's next time.

That is sad to hear... Why didn't they have a full-featured-but-time-limited "LE" version??

That would work so much better, to entice people to buy...

GAOTD#1Fan, i understand but you are free to check whatever review out you might want to see here on GOTD, i don't post reviews in the very sense, it's more a first impression with alternatives. If a program is plastered with nags like this, it's really hard for me trying to dive more into it and actually work more with it or use it. Sometimes it depends, if a software makes a decent first impression, the negative things would come last but in this case, the negative things - imo again - had overweight and i didn't want to make it even longer than it already was listing all the nags. It may seem biased but isn't. And in regard to companies that may stop offering software here, why would they do that? GOTD has so many daily visitors, it's the best way to offer to a big audience that may be interested in buying stuff. There aren't many sites like GOTD and there is always positive and negative feedback and everyone knows that.

kui_, I would like to stress that my reply was just a general reply addressing every reviewer and... nothing personal to you as I always read your reviews as they always are very interesting.
However... u seem like a smart articulate person who spends the time to write a good review and I think that it would more helpful to mention the pro's & con's of a software than just a "1st impression" review.
What do you think?
Still looking foward to your future reviews.
Peace !!

Downloaded, installed, and registered without a hitch. Loads quickly and seems to be very easy to navigate and use. Some items are not available to use but there is enough available for me to work with my audio files and be able to do the corrections I need to better the audio for use with my videos. Huge Thanks.

It downloaded and installed OK on Windows 7. I was interested in this offering because of claims that it seamlessly integrates with PowerDirector. GAOTD offered PowerDirector 15 LE in February and I had installed that, so, I was interested in the "seamless integration" with PowerDirector. Well, after installing AudioDirector7, I loaded up PowerDirector, right-clicked a video clip with audio, selected Edit/Audio Director and with some hope, AudioDirector opened...BUT, it immediately shows the message that "that feature is not available in your version" blah blah blah "please click to upgrade." So, this GAOTD from CyberLink is *not* compatible with the previous GAOTD from CyberLink. Give some truth to the first post about today's GAOTD by @MikeR below.

RC, They claim it seamlessly integrates with PowerDirector 16, not 15, and yes it dose do just that very well. I own the full package of PowerDirector products and for a measly £49 for the lot it was an absolute bargain and dose do exactly what they claim.

Reply   |   Comment by Ron  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-10)

Ron, Are you claiming this AudioDirector version 7 LE seamlessly integrates with paid for PowerDirector 16 or that the full paid for current AudioDirector 8 seamlessly integrates with PowerDirector 16?

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

TK, The description at the top of this page states " CyberLink AudioDirector7 gives you total control over the editing, mixing, and mastering of your video’s soundtrack, sound effects, and even dialogue. Cutting-edge restoration tools let you restore and work with files that have audio flaws or imperfections. Seamless integration with PowerDirector16 ensures efficient round-trip editing and reduced production times. You can also directly edit the sounds in existing videos and save to popular video file formats." And I have to agree with that as it dose work perfectly with my PowerDirector 16 video editor.

Reply   |   Comment by Ron  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Ron, but that does not answer the question since this is NOT the complete AudioDirector7 but is the crippleware non-retail AudioDirector7 LE as other comments and common sense informs us that the desription cyberlink supplied is for the full depretiated used to be paid for edition and NOT the never ever for sale LE crippleware.

I never used this program AudioDirector7, but it does have some good reviews. It's a lot more advance then cutting and trimming a mp3. It seems to be able to take video audio and create 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound track. That said, I say it's more a mixer. It can repair bad audio too. I'm glad to get this software and looking forward to learning how to use it. Side note! I went to CyberLink homepage to download AudioDirector7 and there they have a (Special Gift) for all GOTD folks. They have free giveaway of PowerDirector 15 LE to add to this one. Two giveaways in one! To get your license key for both, give a email and they send it to you. Thanks to GOTD and CyberLink!

Reply   |   Comment by Jim C  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-10)

Jim C, that's nice that they are offering PowerDirector15 LE too, but apparently AudioDirector7 LE (today's GAOTD) does not seamlessly integrate with PowerDirector15 LE unless you upgrade. That makes it seem less like a "special gift" and more like a "sales gimmick." But, I suppose CyberLink is just trying to make some money on the process, but it would be nice if things were a bit more transparent.

Reply   |   Comment by RC  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+37)

Jim C, I think you'll find the "some good reviews" of AudioDirector7 are for the full paid version not the crippleware LE edition given away here which will only get "good" reviews by paid reveiwers contracted or employed by cyberlink.

Cyberlink's AudioDirector 7 is the predecessor to the current version of this software; comparison chart here:

https://www.cyberlink.com/products/audiodirector/compare-versions_en_GB.html

Conspicuous by its absence, however, is any comparison between AudioDirector 7 and AudioDirector 7 LE.

This particular Taiwanese developer has pretty much cornered the market in inventing LE (Limited Edition), SE (Special Edition) and DL (DeLuxe) versions of programs that are only discovered to be crippleware after installation.

Cyberlink has been told time and again about unethical sales tactics, and might've been thought by now to have understood how counter-productive those tactics are: I've had one experience of a stripped- back 'SE' version of its PhotoDirector, but that was enough to dissuade me from ever wasting time on Cyberlink again.

Hopefully, today's 'Limited Edition' isn't just another disguised sell-up attempt to maneuver a user from crippled product to full product. Certainly, nothing on the developer's promotional page suggests it's anything other than the full product:

http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/edms/Giveaway/GOTD/ADR7LE/index.jsp

Hopefully other GOTDers will try today's offer and report back to show that their faith has been justified. For me though, if I'm to commit to a 178Mb install then I'd like to be certain that the software to which I'm devoting my time is accurately described and honestly represented. Fool me once, Cyberlink. But never twice.

MikeR, So?
Does the 178Mb install is way way better than portable Audaity's 50 or ocenaudio 107 footprint?
