Ashampoo's Snap may be the only video capture app that lets you select the installed codec to be used for capture, which is a big deal. A codec is the video COmpressor / DECompressor that takes the raw data, puts it in the format to be saved in a file, and applies video compression, shrinking the video stream to something that can be written to disk in real time. Some codecs are simply better for capture than others -- the usual ffmpeg isn't one of them.

That isn't to say Ashampoo Snap doesn't have its negatives. *To me*, Ashampoo tries so hard to make the GUI easy that it winds up being confusing -- I find it harder than it should be to find the setting I'm after. For simple snapshots, rather than video capture, I normally use something else, e.g., the snapshot tool built into Opera & Edge, or Windows tools -- they're faster easier, and don't require opening another app.

The program does not open on your desktop, it goes directly to your task bar by your clock. You just right click it for the menu options. Works great for me.

I have been using version 12 and found it quite useful. This version loaded without incident. Thanks, GOTD!

Ashampoo won't accept my emailadress for activation. Strange, the same adress I use here.

I have always found that this software does an excellent job. I use all the time for my working videos.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of these details. Looking at the info, it looks as if I made mistake taking out 11 sadly.

"I use all the time for my working videos."
I don't do a lot of screen recording -- if I did I'd probably use OBS [I *think* it's the most popular, but a bit of work to learn & set up] -- but for the little bit I do Snap works great [I bought v.14 when it 1st came out].
"Tony Bennett, do you agree with the comment ..."
Snap 14 & later does have its faults, which is why I only use it for very occasionally recording video. *To me* it's not a matter of earlier versions of Snap being better / easier, but between the snapshot tools in browsers like Edge & Opera, plus the tools built into Windows, and Print &/or Save to PDF, I don't see a reason to stop the flow of whatever I'm doing to open another app.

Set up, download and activation all straightforward but the program refuses to open. When I use the Ashampoo Troubleshooter I am informed that it is an Incompatible Program. I am running Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge with Windows defender. Any ideas?

Niv,
Are you running it as 64 bit

Niv, I will assume that "it" is Ashsmpoo Snap 14.
Do you have any other screen capture or camera recording software (including previous versions of Snap) installed? They could potentially cause compatibility especially. I would also suggest checking on the video/graphics driver software you have - has the vendor supplied any features that could cause a conflict, are your drivers up-to-date, things like that. Good luck!

TK,
No my system is definitely 64 bit. I had the same problem with Ashampoo Undeleter a few months back when everything went well but it, too, would not open. I have googled the problem and tried some of the suggestions but to no avail. Strangely, I have Ashampoo Commander 16 and that works just fine.
