Got back to play with the program. Terrific. Easy to use, lots of effects. I'm still an amateur on fixing saturation, temperature etc. Butr for each change, besides the bar line, you can experiment fractionally with number changes. As a neophyte in photo editing (mainly I do automatic changes, resizing, cropping), this one looks good, and I'll fool around with all my bad photos.. Thanks/

If you installed Ashampoo Photo Commander 15 from the last time GOTD offered this, don't download it again because it is the exact same file size and hash information. The installed version is 15.1.0. So if you have that, you're already all set. As a result, I can skip this giveaway offer for today.

I had an earlier one,.. put this in and no problems whatsoever. So what you get a quick ad on the latest sales they have! The nice thing about Ashampoo is that they keep track of all your programs from them with your keys (just in case moving to a new computer and you have a fav you want to keep or a completely trashed computer you have to put things in again. It's worth signing up with them. Wish a few more companies did things like this,.. no need to whine to someone in particular about a lost key, new computer etc. Love you, Ashampoo!!!

Oh, found a way to get key. Checked "forgot password", (I never had a password), put in a password, went back to the original, found that I was now "registered", and got my license key on the screen. Who knew? Anyhow, will play with this later

Sounds good. Waited 20 minutes for registration key on default browser. Then another five minutes on alternate browser. Nada! Going out now, back tonight. We shall see

The installation messed up my system . Now all the icons on my desktop and task bar are flashing . System is unstable . Copy and paste abort on each flash . I will have to do a complete reinstall of system and programs . S__T .

Tom, If your system is windows, surely you can "roll back" to before you installed this software, by using "System Restore"?
Save | Cancel
Tom, Is this still happening? Please, someone advise... I'd like to know before installing. Thanks.

Tom,
-Before doing a complete reinstall of your OS, run Photo Commander 15
-Next look at your toolbar at the top and select 'CONFIGURATION' and then 'All Settings...' to view the Application Configure window.
-In the left white pane, select 'Associations' located under 'General' settings
-Untick every checkbox that is checked, click the blue 'OK' button then close Photo Commander program
- Find out what other program or programs that were originally associated with everything you unticked and re-associate them again.
-Reboot computer and you should be good.
The problem? During installation, you probably wanted to associate all your files with Photo Commander and you overwhelmed your Windows shell, hence the flickering/flashing effect.
Future hint, when installing programs that want to associate a bunch of file extensions, don't let it do it period.
You can still run Photo Commander and run any file extension that it can associate itself with.
I only have two programs on my computer that run most of my file extensions and they are K-lite Codec Pack Mega for video files and AIMP for audio files. You want to run as few programs as you can with all of your files if you want to maintain a stable shell system on you OS.

Tom,
One more thing I forgot to mention. If your OS is too unstable to do the steps I outlined above, boot into safe mode and then launch Photo Commander. It should be more stable in that mode to do the steps. Also, just untick all the associations mentioned, save the changes, close the program and then reboot computer. You don't have to do that next step I mentioned...
- Find out what other program or programs that were originally associated with everything you unticked and re-associate them again.
Skip it and worry about that later after you reboot.
That is all.

Robert Smith,
One more note to myself, and others, is I also use XnView for all of my image files. Now this program warns you not to associate all of your image files with Windows as it may cause it to become unstable. What they don't say is that it is making your Windows OS Shell unstable because it is being overloaded with associations. STRONG HINT HERE: The total fewer associations you use with programs, the better it is for your OS as it doesn't have to load so much at startup and all the time it is running. Think of it as opening 30 tabs in your browser and then you keep on opening more. Well guess what? Eventually you'll be eatin' up all of your ram and processing power causing your browser or your entire OS system to freeze, blue screening you or even an error and eventually a total computer crash. Everyone's experience will be different depending on the hardware they are using.

Robert Smith, Thank you for the info .It is a possibility . Too late on the reinstall . I ran it at Microsoft.com with the option to save all programs and data . it took several hours but every thing is fine now including Photo Commander .

Colin M, Not unless Photo Commander created a restore point . I had the system pretty much the way I wanted and had not created a restore point in years . I just had an old version (Christmas) of Photo Commander that I did not like the looks of . It took several hours but I ran reinstall windows with the option to keep all data and programs and that solved the problem. everything works including Photo Commander .

Robert Smith, Thank you for the information . It is a possibility or it is a possibility that I messed up the install . At the beginning of the install I believe a window pops up wanting you to enter the key . It may have popped up under another window and I did not see it . I started a second install and completed it . The first install may still have been active but the input window was wiped out by the second install so windows was waiting for a response but the window was gone . Anyway I didn't waste anytime , I started looking for a solution on my own . I ended up going to Microsoft.com Windows 10 and ran a live install with the option to save all programs and data .It took several hours but everything works now including Photo Commander . It may of kind of been the Nuclear Option but I pushed start and it ran straight through and may of cleaned up windows in the process . Thank you for your concern .

I'm forever looking for a good, simple to use photo viewer. Navigation, organization and ease of use are more important than photo manipulation for me. I've tried several other offerings here that always seemed to get in the way and I end up disassociating them. This one seems to have gotten it right. Plus downloading, installation and registration was much simpler than most GOTD offerings. Kudo, Ashampoo!

How is "The new Ashampoo Photo Commander 15" offered here different from the Ashampoo Photo Commander 15 given on 3/28/18?

In the past, people have complained that Ashampoo spams often. I have always found it easy to unsubscribe to their emails and turn off the 'service channel' that pops up adds each time the program launches.
I own a dozen+ Ashampoo products. I own Photo Commander 14. Last year, when this was offered, I upgraded. However, 15 would NOT allow me to turn the service channel off. I found it very annoying to constantly see ads when I launched this program. I downgraded to 14.

Jim Soo,
Could you please explain how you turned the SERVICE CHANNEL OFF?
The steps?

Jim Soo,
Nevermind. I found it in the toolbar.

Did anyone have a long wait for their serial number for this program?
Looks like I'll have to install it again if my serial number arrives in my email.
Brian
Save | Cancel
Brian, mine was almost instantaneous but a slightly different procedure than GOTD apps usually use. After I installed and provided email address, it sent a link that took me directly to my serial number. I'm already registered with Ashampoo so that may have helped.
Save | Cancel
Brian, Once you make an account with Ashampoo, confirm it via email, usually it shows serial number on that page as well as emailing it to you.

Brian,
I found the problem. It was asking me for my Logon password as I had registered with AShampoo in the past. I thought it was asking me for the programs serial number.

This program needs shadow and highlight adjustment an unfortunate omission for such an otherwise good program.

Excellent Software. A product of Germany and in conformity with strict EU privacy laws. If this is your first experience with Ashampoo, you might be concerned with the desktop notifications of new products. You can turn this feature off. I have purchased many Ashampoo products over the years and have never been disappointed. Photo Commander lives up to its promise as a great way to manage your ever expanding photo collection.

This is an excellent program. I got the same version a year or so ago and have been very impressed. It is very easy to navigate (not like some other photo editing programs) and gives superb results.
Don't miss it.

jraju,
Ashampoo lists dust & scratch removal for their free version of Photo Commander, but don't mention it with today's GOTD. Hopefully just an oversight, &/or something their marketing dept. feels not worth pointing out, since not so many people scan photos nowadays.
The unfortunate side effect of using dust & scratch filters is that they'll reduce sharpness for the entire photo. I'm working my way through a box of very old photos, many in somewhat poor condition, and what I like to do is apply the dust & scratch filter to a duplicate layer, & then use a layer mask. I then paint over the mask, making it transparent, on small areas with spots or even individual spots. That preserves the overall sharpness of the photo, but you need an image editor that does layers, like PaintShop Pro -- I usually find it on sale a couple of times a year for around $25.
