Jane,
On reading a review of your software it stated the following:-
Cons
It inadvertently changes your default audio device

This is an aspect of this type of software that always concerned me, my audio control is by Realtek which can be an absolute beast when you mess with it.
So my question is, is the above statement correct?

Dear friend, we've fixed this bug in the latest version. If you still have this problem, please send log to us through "Help" in Streaming Video Recorder. We'll reply to you ASAP. Thank you.

Felix,
Thank you for the information: installed with no effect on my audio control.
Unfortunately, unable to run in XP SP3 as error message on start that seems to boil down to "unable to load CEFSharp.Core.dll"

Seb, now what did the directions and comments from the developer say about XP?

Jane,
Another commenter said:

"Why didn't anyone comment on the 5 minute max record time, plus whatever other restriction was mentioned in the pop-up box AFTER installation? I'm deleting it."

So, is the recording time limited to 5 minutes, or what??

Reply   |   Comment by starvinmarvin  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

kc4cop,
The only information from the developer is posted here, and as you can see there has been no response regarding XP installation.
"CefSharp.Core.dll" that seem to cause some problems if you look for information on Google about it.

Nor has there been any information regarding the premature failure of registration of the program from the developer.

Frederick Dakin, it sounds like something's not working with your copy/paste routine. I was able to paste the email/code and it registered right away. If nothing else works, try typing it because the software is probably worth your while.

Apowersoft & GOTD, thank you for what looks to be a handy tool for multimedia fans!

Reply   |   Comment by Dan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Frederick Dakin,
After you download the folder and unzip it you will see that the folder contains a "readme" file. Open the file and you will see that it contains an email address and a registration code. When you launch the program click on Register. In the Register dialog box copy and paste the email address you saw in the Readme file. Then copy and paste the registration code from the Readme file. Click OK/Submit and the program will be fully registered.

Can anyone tell me why the screen recording function produces such awful results? The video is extremely pixelated, sometimes making it impossible to read text. I have tried altering the settings to make sure the video looks the best it possibly can (such as 2000kbps, 60fps, Quality Priority, format doesn't seem to matter), but those don't work. I am still left with a garbage video.

But other than that, the installation was nice and easy, which is a major plus on this website, registration was not difficult by any means, and it looks very promising.

Reply   |   Comment by Hooligan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Okay, so I guess I figured it out, but I'll leave this up in case anyone else has the same problem.

It's just the player that you can use to watch your recordings within the software; it's terrible. The video you saved after hitting the stop button is perfectly normal, but when viewing it with the program, everything is blocky and distorted.

But yeah, don't worry, because your video will look fine if you put it into an editor or watch it with your system video player :P

Perfectly smooth install on Windows 10.
Seems to work great, but how to limit the automatic recording?
For instance, when tried on this url :
http://www.france3.fr/emission/meteo/diffusion-du-20-08-2016-18h40
it records 21 versions of the video, in different resolutions:
256x144 : 4 times
320x180 : 6 times
512x288 : 4 times
704x396 : 6 times
1024x576: 1 time
Is there some setting that can avoid this?

Thank you for this program. Installed fast and easy in Win7.1 64 bit. I have a free one for YouTube videos, but they have stopped working in the past and have to be re-installed. This one is a nice, easy to use and does what I want it to. Great for beginners and those who want a no fuss downloading.

After reading the comments first, I downloaded, installed and registered quite easily on the first try. My better half could not seem to figure out how to do the same process without an intense amount of frustration, so apparently it varies from user to user whether the download of any GAOTD goes smoothly. Eventually he got it registered with some coaching. it took him 15 minutes to download and me only a minute, but he has a computer connected to an institution, so it depends on individual set ups.

I agree with other commenters that some kind of manual or help tips would be a great asset so developers please take note. I don't want to send a ticket to your help desk just to figure out how to do basic operations. nevertheless I pretty quickly downloaded a much coveted french album from the 70s from You Tube that I couldn't download last night with a browser downloader because of the great mystery of add ons working a couple of times then not. Hooray! Next I converted it to MP4 which took about 15 mins (but the album was over an hour long). Success!

I like this program - it downloads media almost instantly and seems to have a lot of options such as editing which I haven't even looked at.

Thanks GAOTD and developers for a strong, useful program right on time, just what I was looking for. Recommended.

I cant put in the registration number into the software
Spent 15 minutes reading comments that dont give an answer to the problem
I sent my email as instructed in the "read me" notepad, and I copied the registration code into the email I sent them.
But now what?
Do I get another email?
Do I now have to enter a new "code"?
This is very unclear and confusing
What do i do now?

Mike Tabor, Edit: Use the give away of the day email as the email use register with with the code, not your personal email, when you open the program. The email you use and the code are together in the readme file. This may be of more help.

Also, same question as several previous commenters-Does this mess with the Default device settings (RealTek?????)usually one has to create a Restore Point prior to installing the software, and then do a System Restore, just to eliminate all the accompanying headaches that this entails....and that can be a REAL P.I.T.A...(and I wish you would go back to the numbered comment system,too,BTW...)

Hello,

Apowersoft Streaming Video Recorder is a nice piece of software but i have a big problem for the use of it.

I use a firewall (Tinywall) and if i don't open it to everything, no way to download vidéo (Red alert and no downloading 0 % process).

So i attributed rights to
- Streaming Video Recorder 6.exe
then i add
- Apowersoft.Browser.exe

And i try others adds with exe (and some dll) available in Program Files Ashampoo repertory.

No results except if i lock Tinywall off.

So, please, what can i do ?.

What are Ashampoo files and Windows files necessary for Firewall rules ?

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

Tom

This looks promising but I can't figure out how to use it. We again have a new look UI rather than simple menus. The entries don't have tool tips so I have no idea what 'Detect' means for example.

A trip to the publisher's site had a support / manual page. There is no entry for this product. So no help file. No listing for this product at the Web site and no way to use it that I can figure out.

A waste of my time. I'm glad I didn't retail this thing. I'd move for a refund.

paul,
get the video you want to download up in a window, open the program, hit "Detect" from the menu options at the top, and it will pick up the video automatically and download it.

I had trouble locating where the video was, but nothing that the search button couldn't solve.

I agree, there should be some simple user instructions for basic functions.

However, haven't been able to rectify this as AVG has flagged up a Personal Identity problem with the file rtmpsrv.exe residing in the Apowersoft directory. I am aware that this file can be used in the detection of rtmp streams but is it safe? Anyone else had this identified by their virus checker?

Tried past versions and can confirm those hijack your Realtek audio driver and replace with their own buggy one.
Warning - this affects your other software.
The number of video codecs was limited. You cannot add new ones of your own to use with this software.
The video codecs included with the software were lousy.
Although the rep says they have fixed the audio driver hijack problem; will not take the risk with the new version.

Torrey Parshall, the 5 minute restriction is because it runs as the trial until you enter the registration code, which is in the readme file, it only applies until you cut and paste it, presumably about 20 seconds later (remembering to use the gaotd e-mail address from the readme too, not yours).

This is my sixth "Apowersoft program. They're all good. Love "Phone Manager". I used it yesterday to add some new sounds to my phone "Notifications" folder. I bought this earlier this year, version 5, and it worked well, though would not update to version 6. I therefore download this version 6 without deleting my version 5 (pro), and the new version installed fine, and on keying in the GOTD email and serial key, it has registered to me, (Brian).
I am not complaining as it is a good program, but strange how it wolf not update version 5.
Well recommended, the recording quality is very good in my opinion, and seldom will not download a video, though I do not try to record stuff I should not.
Nice to have the latest version, so thanks to GOTD and Apowersoft

Typically, any program offered via GOTD can be installed ONLY the day of the giveaway and will not be vail for installation afterwards.

ScreenRecorder typically does not "rip" video and audio from various websites.

Installed OK on W10 64 bit.

Started with few simple copy and paste downloads from youtube and as soon as you paste the download and conversion happens automatically and the outputted files are encoded very quickly

If you are copying a Youtube video that is part of a playlist then it automatically asks you if you would like to add any others and you can select individually or pick the select all button.

Went to various other sites and turned on detection and found that it worked well on some sites.

Decided to try it on iPlayer but not surprisingly would not detect any video streams.

I have to say that after just 10 minutes play it was easily worth the download and whilst I can't give a 100% thumbs up in terms of value form money at this point, based upon the fact that some of their other screen capture and screen recording offerings work just about perfectly, I have high hopes for this.

Apowersoft do seem to be a vendor that does produce consistently good programs, so that has to be a bonus to people that would think about parting with their money, especially with the wide choice of offerings out there.

Cannot download as it says "required privilege is not held by the client".

Is the screen recording function 1. A screen shot records or 2. Records a video of screen - say for demo of a software.

Hi everybody. :)

The "Streaming Video Recorder" webpage needs to be updated:
- system requirements are missing; i.e., what windows versions could run the software?
- windows 8.1 and 10 aren't even mentioned in the "what's new" section.

Given the previous comments and the "what's new", it seems this doesn't work in windows xp, windows vista, windows 8.1 and windows 10.

This should mean it works on windows (I could have skipped some versions):
3.1
95
98
me
2000
2000 server
xp (NO sp, sp1, sp2, sp3)
xp 64bit (NO sp, sp1, sp2, sp3)
vista (NO sp, sp1, sp2)
vista 64bit (NO sp, sp1, sp2)
7 (NO sp, sp1)
7 64bit (NO sp, sp1)
8 (32/64bit)
8.1 (32/64bit)
10 (32/64bit)

I have quoted this before the windows versions listing, but it didn't appear: Windows-based software: Compatible with all Windows versions with 32 and 64 bit.

Does this software capture streams from Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon for replay?

Reply   |   Comment by mws  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

mws,
Not sure about this software but there are other applications available that do, but they will provide a popup indicating something about stealing. (RipTiger is one example that has the ability but gives the notice I mentioned.)

I would not suggest ripping from Netflix, Hulu or Amazon as that would be considered theft of intellectual property / piracy. Hope this helps.

Daryn,
It's the old VCR issue. As long as it's for personal use and one doesn't share it one should be okay. But if the program doesn't even allow for it then it's a moot point.

Michael Summerset,

I agree that it's not piracy in that its file sharing but almost all movies and programs streaming these days have a precursor that does say unauthorized reproduction is prohibited. That has nothing to do with sharing. That is my point.

The old VCR issue technically was still illegal but just not enforced.

Works well as a YouTube downloader for resolutions higher than you're usually allowed to download (just the first thing I tried), so thumbs up and thanks to APowerSoft!

Just a passing minor bug report (not a negative worth noting). When I changed the Download folder (Win10Pro) I used the "Make New Folder" button to make a folder called "ApowersoftStreamingVideoRecorder" however the program used "New Folder" instead, which doesn't exist as the rename did happen. Okay I tried this a second time and I see what's going on, if you type the name over "New Folder" and click OK it renames the folder but uses "New Folder" in the program (although it no longer exists), if you hit return on the rename and then click OK it's fine. This probably needs fixing but isn't a big thing.

Carrying on it that vein: do note a lot of the English strings in the Convert Settings dialogue are truncated (specifically the first three check-boxes).

Finally after eight downloads (all successful) I find I have the cache folders - in {download dir}\cache\{file name} - for two of them left behind, even after exiting the program (containing two temp files each, presumably video+audio). Worth checking if you download big files as could eat a lot of disk space over time.

Is this a one-time only lifetime license? If not, how long is the license good for? And lastly, can it be uninstall-ed and re-installed without any problems?
Thank you!

Ron,
It cannot be installed/reinstalled after the day of the giveaway unless specifically stated in the description. This is the norm got all GOTD promotions.

Daryn, thank you for your kind reply. Do you know how long the license is good for? Thank you.

Ron,

There is no time limit for this license. That being said, it is good for the current version only and does not provide free upgrades.

It will last until it mysteriously disappears from Apowersoft's registration database, which usually takes just a few months based on past experience with Apowersoft giveaways.

Felix Crevat, My products from Apowersoft work well, until I haven't used them for awhile, and notice that the only thing that still exists on my computer is the link to the Apowersoft software's webpage. The rest of the application seems to just vanish.
