AnyMP4 Studio, i don't know what went wrong exactly but i don't see any "Get Free Registration Code" button anywhere after clicking on "Register". I didn't even get 30 days of trial period, after having it freshly installed. Any assistance with this?

Nevermind, i located the registration page in the Windows Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AnyMP4 Studio\AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player. There is a key called "url_FreeGetCode", just copy and paste that URL into your browser.

The Blu-ray video discs you rent or buy have pretty heavy DRM. To play them using Windows, rather than a stand-alone Blu-ray player, you need software that can handle that DRM: either a licensed player, e.g. PowerDVD Ultra, or something like the AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player. In order to use something like VLC, or any of the other, many video players available, you have to use something like DVDFab's Passkey to remove the DRM first. MakeMKV is a free alternative, copying the video to a MKV file on your hard drive, though you'll lose much of the Blu-ray's structure, e.g. menus & features, if that matters to you.

AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player lets you adjust some video attributes like hue & gamma etc., which may be useful for stuff like video you shot with your cell phone or drone, but for DVD & Blu-ray video that's already been mastered by real pros, not so much. IMHO the devs would be better off adding features to give you a better picture, particularly on a big screen, e.g. LAVFilters & madVR. PowerDVD Ultra 18 includes those sort of audio & video enhancements, plus added extra features/capabilities, & can occasionally be found on sale for $30-$40. Leawo's Blu-ray player is free. So FWIW I think promoting features enhancing rather than altering the video would make AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player more competitive.

Some Blu-ray & DVD video discs have a type of DRM called Cinavia. If you only play the original discs, no problem. If you try to play a backup disc you burned, or the video from a hard drive, a licensed player like PowerDVD will detect Cinavia & playback will fail, so there are cases when even though someone bought PowerDVD Ultra, they still need something like AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player. AnyDVDHD has one method to block CInavia -- DVDFab can sometimes replace the audio with a sanitized version, getting rid of Cinavia entirely.

Blu-ray video discs are also complicated... They use Java code for DRM, menus, & features. Cyberlink pays license fees to the Blu-ray folks so PowerDVD Ultra works with with the DRM rather than bypassing it, and all of that Java-based stuff works. With unlicensed players it often will not. To play a Blu-ray video disc the player has to know which playlist to play -- there may be 100+, & it may even be even be virtual, created on the fly during playback -- and that playlist may list several individual video files that patched together form the movie. Any player you want to use has to understand that structure -- very many will not -- although you can use something like MakeMKV or tsMuxeR [also free, but you need the correct playlist beforehand] to copy the video to a single file.

Note that if you go the MKV route subtitles will be more compatible if you use something like SubtitleEdit to OCR them to a .srt file. tsMuxeR OTOH can give you a Blu-ray structure playable on most any Blu-ray player, including stand-alone, with the audio, video, & subs in a single .m2ts file that's widely compatible with players -- if the player doesn't understand Blu-ray, just open that .m2ts file.

Reply   |   Comment by bill oleary  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

bill oleary,

Disney Blu-rays often include a menu that pops up 1st thing, where you select the language &/or similar options. That's part of the stuff that's handled by Java, which many of these players cannot handle, and a great example of why buy a licensed player like PowerDVD Ultra.

That said, the majority of Blu-ray video discs I've seen don't use that sort of thing, so should work with AnyMP4 Blu-ray Player. You can also sometimes select the title.

Emmett Tashoots, nice find! It does indeed have VideoLAN files in the /plugins subfolder of the installation, from version 2.2.7.0, i kinda wondered initially why it shared the same Deinterlace modes like VLC has but i disregarded it. So it's basically a crippled version of a older VLC player. Good to know.

Download and install - no issues. Registration email turnaround was the fastest that I can recall. I went into preferences and cleared the "check for upgrades" so that I wouldn't do an oopsie! Low and behold, on the next start the program asked if I wanted to upgrade. Did not steal any media associations.

Tried two BluRay movies, one DVD movie, a few MP4 files and three ripped to disk DVD movies. Blue rays looked and sounded good. "Snapshot" was all but instant and didn't cause a blip. Fast forward on one of the movies using the slider resulted in green breakup and distorted sound. Recovered by sliding back to start. Worked fine on the second BluRay.

/Occasionally/ did not support drag and drop from the opening screen. Drilling down to a file is cumbersome when it balks. The player retains the last opened directory so there is a workaround. Played MP4, AVI, OGG, MP3, AIF, and WAV files.

Didn't want to play my ripped DVD's. Tried three. It would play the individual VOB files, but who wants to do that? Did play DVD from disk.

Ran AnyMP4 and Leawo side by side with DVDFab on the same BluRay. Leawo never loaded and crashed repeatedly. DVDFab and AnyMP4 had, to my eye, equal picture but the AnyMP4 sound was much brighter.

With GOTD price - free - this is a good deal. At thirty-five bucks, not so good. I removed Leawo and DVDFab and will stick with AnyMP4 until something better comes along. Or when whatever happens after a year license runs out.

.. is there anything this SW does better than say VLC Player?

Reply   |   Comment by juqa buqa  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+14)

juqa buqa, well, it supports encrypted Blu-ray and DVD playback out of the box but nothing you can't fix in VLC with a one-time setup. Other than that VLC has an immense amount of options (let's not forget the Addons) compared to todays offer, which is more or less a simple casual player, while VLC can get complicated rather quickly, if one chooses so.

Installation went fine, registration not so much, as i had to dig in the Windows Registry first to get to the registration page.

As already mentioned, todays offer is pretty much bare bones, with only very basic options one can expect.

Compared to the competition it lacks in some more advanced settings overall, like render mode options, region specific settings, more audio settings (like a switch for analog and digital), subtitle options (like font type, placement, size, color etc.), skinning (why not be able customize the look of it), power options (like a battery saver or reminder) or simple file associations.

I tried a few files and they all played fine. So for basic needs, it's a ok player for me.

The only real annoyance i found was when there is no internet access, the splash screen stayed frozen in the middle of the screen, until i allowed it to have access, which means it kinda needs internet access at the start every time.

Chasm, "The only real annoyance i found was when there is no internet access"
In my Win10 I can control the access of the internet by a firewall.
Sometimes I block the GOTD-program and today the program did not work, just the splashscreen:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qc6h6xqncm94llf/ZonderInternetToegang.png
After that I disconnected the PC form the internet(pulled out the cable), after that started the GOTD-program and the program worked fine.
Also the whole PC had no internet.

Chasm,

"... when there is no internet access, the splash screen stayed frozen in the middle of the screen..."

Blu-ray DRM is constantly evolving in a cat & mouse game with software that bypasses that DRM. Rather than hard-coding the methods used to bypass that DRM, which would require constant new software versions, the software devs have most all moved to a phone home approach, where the software gets the required method for the disc at hand from its home base. Even a Blu-ray licensed player like PowerDVD Ultra 18 has to contact the Cyberlink servers from time to time for DRM-related updates.

A very simple piece of software that plays both video formats and DVD's. More simplistic than most video players and compact.

- Easy registration.
- Simple Ui.
- Multi extention player.

- No additional aspects to stand out from vlc.
- Lack of additional options or controls.
- Has issues playing certain formats resulting in a black screen with sound.
- Out of 5 times launched crashed twice on launch and crashed every time video ended.

Conclusion: Good piece of software for basic use. Would price it as freeware maybe a few quid pushing it. So worth a try.

I have downloaded this company's software in the past. They give a registration and a serial number, then 2 months later they remove the license or don't acknowledge it exists in the software, making it a trial version. I wonder what they are doing in the background I am unaware of.
