Program seemed to install ok on a W10-64 bit system. Program started ok and appeared to start recording. On clicking "stop", the program window disappears and doesn't save the recording. Because this is a GOTD product, no tech support and I don't have time to trouble shoot their issue. Too bad, I could have used this program if it worked.

Sorry this comment is coming in late, but this may also help anyone who misses the offer. I've been using camstudio pre-Windows 10 when needed. Windows 10 comes with a screen recorder in the Xbox feature. A search on "Windows 10 xbox recorder" will list many sites with descriptions, including Microsoft's own sites. New in Windows 10. From prior to Windows 10 there is also a "step recorder" (just search for it) which can record clicks etc. Built in. I do like aiseesoft's products as well.

Downloaded and install fine. I got an "activation successful".

Appears to run well, but when I stop it (either with the stop button or with F10), I get a popup window with an "Application Fault" message.

It asks me to send a file to Aiseesoft. I click "OK", but I have no idea if the message goes or not.

I have activated it folowing nstructions. No problems in installation I click the Record button, but the window disappears for a brief second, then reappears and is not recording. F10 shorcut doesn't work either.F9 shorcut does work, an image is recorded.I use Win 7 Pro 32 bits, HP Probook 5310m. I have reported the problema to Aiseesoft support team. Has somebody solved the problem? Any feedback from GOTD or Aiseesoft? I haven't seen any. Thanks.

Downloaded and installed on vista 64 bit with no problems. However, it won't start at all. I downloaded it again from the aiseesoft website and still no luck. Tried to run the program as administrator....nothing. Sorry, but I can't say anything good about this program. Uninstalled.

Hopefully this comment won't be deleted, but I wanted to offer an alternative to those having trouble with today's screen capture software. Eric Holmlund - a friend of mine who is also a well-experienced internet marketer - offers a free program titled Sourceforge, which is is a collective of developers who provide free software under the GNU license (free to use/modify as one wishes).

Although Eric offers no warranty on the software, I have been using it for years now with no problems. It was originally developed as an alternative to the expensive Camtasia Studio by Techsmith, which - the last time I checked - still costs over $300! Output can be created in a number of different formats, including Flash SWF and AVI (I don't believe MP4 is supported, but files can be converted using any of a number of free format converters such a s Format Factory, etc.)

Eric asks for a signup to his newsletter, although it isn't necessary to download the software. Please consider subscribing to his newsletter, especially if you've been considering looking at how to earn money online. You won't be spammed by him, and you can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time without any hassle.

I understand that THIS site is primarily for software developers to get their product in the hands of end-users to increase brand awareness (and sometimes to give it a rigorous testing to find hidden flaws), and so I fully understand if this comment isn't approved for posting.

Regardless, I wish everyone a very happy Christmas/Hanukkah, and a joyous and prosperous 2016!

The program Erik offers is some version of a freeware called Camstudio that he
rebranded for Internet marketers. It is not a program called "Sourceforge" which
is an open source consortium as you mentioned. It has not been developed for
years as far as I know, so use at your own risk on newer systems.
I have bought a few cheap programs for screen capture as I can't afford Camtasia
like Movavi's screen capture and Ashampoo's screen capture. Of those I prefer the
ease of use of Movavi's. Also, I've tried many freewares only to be disappointed in
those I found except "Icecream Screen Recorder" ! ( I know ....can that be serious ?).
It is actually very good and simple to use and even does webcams in picture.
find it here : http://icecreamapps.com/Screen-Recorder/
I'll pass on this offering though.

Those of you having problems with this, try this instead:

And it's a shame you missed last weeks program "Active Presenter" as it does screen + audio recording really well, really professionally.

@xp-man I know it's off topic but thought you ought to know about the SnagIt 7.2.5 prog you frequently mention. I raised issues with TechSmith re installation problems with SnagIt 7.2.5 under VIsta and although that version is no longer supported they were kind enough to reply. Firstly, Snagit 7.2.5 is NOT compatible with Vista and secondly, the offer and link you refer to are NOT legitimate. TechSmith have confirmed that they have not been offering any free versions of SnagIt 7.2.5. Thought I'd better tell you lest it got the "Father-of-the-Chapel" into bother!

I also found I was unable to install today's offering in Vista despite having full admin rights and turning off AVG and firewall. Increasingly finding AVG has to be turned off to permit installation with GOTD wrapper. What's the point in having a virus checker and a firewall if it constantly has to be turned off to permit installation?? Surely these probs could be fixed before release for installation. It's not as if AVG is an obsure virus checker and it was Windows Vista's own firewall I use.

This app does not seem to be compatible with Vista.

That said, don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for the time and energy GOTD spend in ferreting out such offerings for us and we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we get them FREE.

Reply   |   Comment by Bill  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Bill
Thanks Bill really appreciate the information; it is reported as being a legitimate free offer in many places over the Internet.
Obviously if TechSmith tell you that is not legitimate then it looks like many of us have been misled.

Many of the older versions of Adobe's programs were reported as being free for download by reputable sites, in this case it was a misunderstanding, possibly the same has occurred here.

Very kind of you to take the trouble to inform me, and I will not be offering it as a link in the future.

I don't like giving anything on GOTD a bad review, but this isn't ....well, the file size it makes is too big. I guess I could shrink it with another program. This looked like it might be similar to Boxoft Screen Video Capture, another program given away here. Aiseesoft Screen Recorder 1.0.8 installed for me on Windows 7 Pro 32/64 bit, and also on Windows Pro 64 bit. I guess it isn't wasn't what I was looking for. But thanks anyway GOTD!

It seems to record sound only and starts playback right after you hit the stop button, but it doesn't save it to the designated folder. And there's no video. It takes screenshots but I have other programs to do that. I like Aiseesoft programs I've gotten in the past from GOTD, like the video converter. But this one is, sadly, a fail, at least on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

just installed on Win10 - as in previous comment-can only save as wmv and it a huge file size

also doesnt give you a chance to name the file-it does for you and you have to go look for it

I am using a free one called ice cream recorder that gives you 10 free minutes but lets me save in mp4 format which is a way smaller file size -thats good enough for me

1. No mention about multi monitor support
2. I use Free Greenshot for screen captures (multi monitor support)
3. I use free youtube downloader for youtube.
4. I use replay video capture (with multi monitor support) to record webinars and it works great!
5. I have 3 monitors and selecting which monitors to capture is critical. That is why I stopped using (and paying) for Snagit years ago.

Downloaded and installed with no problems on Win7pro. Registered with no problems. Set the sound and the screen, but program will not record. Read the online page about how to use the program - repeated - still won't record. I click the Record button, but the window disappears for a brief second, then reappears and is not recording. Tried double clicking the record button, single clicking... same results. Maybe I'm just too stupid to run this thing. I will probably uninstall soon because my patience is very limited. Looks like an easy program to run but there isn't much I can do if it refuses to do anything.

Installed easily on W10X64. Looks like a nice simple easy program to use. Tested audio recording from YouTube, file nowhere to be found after multiple searches. Definitely not saved in Documents as stated in the programs Preference section. Very disappointing software from Aiseesoft which has a decent reputation. Hopefully they can revamp the program and also add a recording bar showing the length of the recording and how much time is left.
Un-installed.

Works fine for me. I am using Windows 7. After registering the program, set where you want the videos to be saved to. Go to Menu, Preferences.

The only short coming of this program is it can only save a video in WMV format. It should be something more popular like MP4.

Captured video looks great in Windows Media Player.
Pixelated and unusable in VLC Media Player.

If you can live with WMV as your only video format for captured video. Then this is for you.

Would love to try this again in the future if they can incorporate saving a video to MP4 or MKV.

This program was installed for all users on Win 7 Pro. I had to register it once in each user account; the same registration code was accepted each time. The program starts quickly and is very easy to use because it offers few choices. Output is saved in .wmv format, and plays well on Windows Media Player but is unusable on VLC Media Player. No choices of output format or frame rate or codec are offered; movement in the recorded video is very jerky. The program records at a low frame rate and low resolution, but one's screen is recognizable when the output file is played in WMP. The screen recorder is a bit of resource hog and slowed down my computer, which as only a Core2Duo 3.00 GHz, and 4 GB. I wouldn't bother installing this program on a slower machine. I suspect that the program offered today is offered as a market test, because the output just isn't good enough that I'd want to show it to anybody else. All other Aiseesoft software that I've tried has been very good, and I hope Aiseesoft will soon offer an upgraded version of Screen Recorder 1.0.8. I'm going to uninstall today's offering because the output is not good enough to be used.

Installed on Win7 Ultimate -- and it works.

Well, sort of.... The video quality is good. But whatever I do with the system sound on and internal mike off, or any combination of those, I either get silence, or when there is sound (system sound on) it has ECHO. And this, with the internal mike definitely OFF. (With just the internal mike there is no sound, even when I try to speak over what I can hear coming from YouTube.)

So, it is hardly the sort of thing you'd want to use to save a video, or a music programme, because the echo is like you get on a bad Skype call.

I really hope Aiseesoft can fix this, as it does seem to be a useful programme.

Reply   |   Comment by Tranmontane  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

This is just a hunch about your echo: Right click on sound volume usally next to clock bottom right. Select
recording device when sound window opens select recording tab. highlight your recording device it will have a green arrow on it. select properties tab. Select listen tab. there will be a box that says: (Listen to this device).
If this box is ticked, untick it so that it is clear so that box is clear, Hit OK to close window. You should be ok now
Good Luck :)

Thanks Alan, but when I went looking for that familiar set of volume controls, it isn't there, on my Win7 Ultimate OS... I went to Control Panel, Devices, as well as other possible sections, but nothing brought up the three volume controls I remember. So the echo is still very much there.

Moreover, now that I have got past the test and immediate replay stage, I want to SAVE the file, but I cannot find any button to do so.... Where IS it? It certainly hasn't auto-saved into my Documents folder -- of anywhere else, for that matter.

With SO MANY problems being mentioned, I am sadly coming to the conclusion that this programme just isn't ready for market. Aiseesoft have got to address these issues or maybe they won't be SELLING many copies of this programme, either. Hope they fix it soon... and make the files able to be saved in other formats too.

Same problem as York - couldn't find my files for ages.. Then found them in my Documents folder named ScreenCapture_2015-12-19_11.16.31 So search for ScreenCapture and you should find any recordings you've done.
I'd have thought you could rename and save where you like to, but I couldn't find out how to!
So, help on that please.
Also , my recordings, when I played them back through VLC came out VERY pixelated and therefore unusable.
I tried one immediately using the WMV file then one that I had converted to MP4.
Is there a trick here ? thanks

Installed and registered on Windows 7, a first rate interface and ease-of-use.

This is the easiest screen capture program I have ever used; so easy to set the size of the capture area and understand and use the features.

Tested it on a video and the output was good quality with no problems recording the sound, output format was WMV, I did have problems playing the saved file until it was converted but no problems with the preview.

Its weakness is its lack of options regarding the output type and quality, having said that it will most certainly become one of my favourite capture programs, if I ever decide to use Windows 7 on a regular basis.

All good install (win 7 ultimate) up until I finished a test recording. The program crashed without warning and upon reopening it to try again I got an 'Application Fault' stating that the read attempts tor read from or write to a virtual address for which is does not have access, along with some instructions to send a file to Aiseesoft.

I will be sending to file, but I'm disappointed I couldn't get it working correctly the first time around.

Even more disappointing that I haven't received any help or acknowledgment now that's it's been nearly a day. Ordinarily I'd be happy to look past it and wait a lot longer but I would have thought there'd be someone monitoring support given that they're looking for feedback and dedicated users from GAOTD.

Unfortunately, I'll likely be uninstalling even if this issue is fixed because while the program is lightweight and intuitive, other reviews seem to indicate some other things that I'm not a fan of. Still one of the better screen capturing software I've seen here though.

Installed & registered with no problems (Win 8.1). Very easy to operate & capture ... but... whilst, as soon as the recording is ended, the audio, from the recording, automatically plays, there's no video (recording) shown. Neither is there anything saved in the default folders nor is there anything saved to a user created folder. (I don't have any problems with similar software e.g. Snag-It). Would appreciate any helpful advice. Thank you.
