...And Action! 1.3.0.0 quit working TODAY, "Serial Number Blacklisted" I sent an email to them to see if they will honor the GOTD offer, which worked GREAT until now. We will see if they respond!

I, too, received the "Serial Number Blacklisted" when opening the product today. I actually had the original text file from the installation in my recycle bin, and received the same "Serial Number Blacklisted" message after re-entering the info. Makes me wonder if this was trial-ware...

Exact same issue here. It's not like it was a month or two from the giveaway, it seems like it's a completely random blacklisting.

Despite a couple minor issues, this is the best screen recording software I've tried so far, due largely to the following features:

1. "Use Perfect Video Match mode" - the ability to match the captured frame rate to the frame rate of the source, provided the average frame-rate is entered by the user. This decreases duplicated frames, so smoother playback. The method to find the average frame rate, if not known, is explained, however I do not find it intuitive. When the correct frame rate is entered, however, this feature works very well.

2. Snap to Window - In region capture mode, clicking on the magnet icon in the toolbar automatically creates a capture region around the window. For video embedded within a window, however, the region needs to be adjusted manually.

3. An overall uncluttered interface, compared with some of the alternatives.

Issues and recommendations:
- Saved custom regions are lost upon restarting the cpu.
- Non-intuitive names: Pop-up tool-tips could be used to explain features such as "Enable Action! RCU" rather than having to resort to a web search. "Perfect Video Match mode" could be named something more intuitive such as "Variable Frame Rate Capture Mode" (presuming that's what it is; it seems to be, per description and behavior).

Would it be possible to add some info to the Overlay in Future versions? I would like to see GPU and CPU Usage as well as the system clock and Memory usage / free memory. For CPU I would like to see CPU Usage and Temperature (for each core). For GPU I would like to see GPU Usage, Temperature, Memory Usage and fan RPMs. Would be nice if that would be possible.

When I try to run the program I get an error: "A referral was returned from the server"
Anyone have a thought?

Uninstalled... tried the trick of downloading the trial from the companies homepage in order use activation key. Get the same error upon trying to run the program. My son will be disappointed as he was really looking forward to this one.
Uninstalling... not worth the hassle.

Not a bad program at all and does pretty much what it says very well.

I did however find one issue.

When trying to capture the Kodi interface when playing a demo video, it recorded the sound but the screen capture was just a black screen whilst playing the video.

It's clear from the instructions that this program is meant to be registered BEFORE the clock runs out. That being the case, does this mean that, if you reinstall your Windows operating system at some future point, this software won't successfully reinstall on the basis that its 'use by date' has passed?

Just a thought....

I downloaded it, but when I try to run setup.exe, it asks permission to modify my hard drive (which I grant it, because it has to install itself) and then it does nothing. I've been waiting for 15 minutes. Is there something I should be doing? I got it downloaded off the site just fine, I just can't install it properly.

Todd, No, I have not, but I pressed the "More Details" button on the display that requests permission for hard drive modification. It should show you the location of the file that the setup is supposed to go, but after taking a very long time to get there, I was unable to find the folder I needed, and upon finding a file titled "Mirillis," I got excited, but the folder was empty.
I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but if you manage to follow the same process and end up on a different route, preferably a more successful route, please let me know.

Reply   |   Comment by Sebastius  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Todd,

I believe you guys do not have write permission to the C:\ top level directory. And that is where Action wants to install at.

Since you are using Windows 10, do the following:

1) right mouse click on the start menu flag in the bottom left corner.

2) select "Command Prompt (Admin)", and that will open a command prompt shell.

3) In the shell that pops up, "cd" (change directory) to the directory you downloaded the app, and run the Setup.exe from there.

That should resolve the issue for you as Setup.exe will now have admin authority and can write to the C:\ directory.

SirHadoken,

Me Too! Any program that asks to MODiFY THE HARD DRiVE is a little suspect to my way of thought.

HOWEVER that is the great thing about using programs such as SANDBOXiE or its COMODO equivalent, etc etc.

At least until somebody (or THE VENDOR hint hint) explains what MODiFiCATiONS are being made to the Hard Drive, You can leave the program ACTiON! running from the Sandboxie/Quarantined area.

AND Sandboxie (or the Free COMODO equivalent) has a FREE Version too, but

===============ADViCE==OFFERED==BELOW===============

For what it's worth:

In RETROSPECT one of the very first programs a PC owner should buy and immediately install is SANDBOXiE or equivalent.

I just wish that I had known about such programs sooner and bought (as in real cash money) Sandboxie a long time ago. Because it would have stopped a few viruses and malware items (or, even a few GiveawayOfTheDay programs going back over the years) from making an unwanted changes, appearaning on my PC.

Especially if you are one of those people who dabbles in the murky world of pirated software

Recording ... works fine and looks good. As game RECORDER it is a keeper for me
Streaming...... a joke right? Although it claims to be streaming live to Twitch, Twitch says I am offline. Program crashed after stopping the "stream". tried different settings to no avail. Furthermore, after restarting the program it did not save any of my stream settings or stream key. As streaming device it is a toss away, use overwolf or OBS instead

As recorder a thumbs up, as streamer a thumbs down so no thumb from me today in either direction

Tried installing a few times from different extracted locations. Same negative result some others have reported. The process opens two small GOTD windows, one of which say the program has been activated, and my browser opens to the page saying it has been activated, BUT the program did not install. W10 Pro x64.
THEN I turned off AVG anti-virus temporarily, and the program DID install. AVG had NOT given a complaint during the previous attempts.

Installation/activation worked smooth, for me (W7, 64)
First thing i noticed was that even though i ticked 1920p on, it recorded in 1728 width, 1080 high. Second try worked, I was able to get 1920x1080. Pushing settings to the limit crashed the software.
The file is nicely compressed, only 172 mb.
The recording looks smooth enough, and I am definitely happy with this software, very useful!

Scolaro, I have Win7 x64 and it installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mirillis\Action!" - but there is no option to install it to another drive, which is what I assume people were complaining about (luckily I don't care, although I don't understand why it did a 32-bit install rather than 64-bit?!? Hopefully just for the user interface!).

i dont see any time limit involved after installing.

i did see this in the faq
After product purchase you are entitled to a free updates within purchased product version. In example after purchase of Action! (version 1.x.x) you are entitled to free updates to Action! 1.x.x versions. Upgrades to next product versions (in example from Action! 1.x.x to Action! 2.x.x version) or other product versions are not free.

Really very impressed, it would be nice to have a "special" reduced GOTD price for the lifetime version, I usually buy software I like after trying on GOTD, not only to get the updates, but to help support the company, but as I do have another program that does similar capture I would not pay full price for the "extras", though I would say, for me, this is better and easier to use.

Nothing more to add that has not already been said, easy to see why it is scoring well. Thanks GOTD and Mirillis

Impressed by how well it worked; recorded streaming video and audio with out any difficulty, accomplished without any input on my part.
Often find that it is necessary to adjust the display and audio settings with this type of program, so this was a nice change.

My only complaint is that it did not appear to offer a choice of where it would be installed, don't think I missed it.
A program I'll be happy to keep.

If anyone has problems starting the program after installation with "Failed to initialize product. Please try reinstalling." you have to remote "dwm.exe" from you firewall. This was the case for me with Binisoft Windows Firewall Control.
