Well, this is about the third program/game in the past week that "Will not Connect" when trying to install. I have installed no new software and have not had this issue in the 15 + years I've been enjoying your service. Just for grins, I disabled Windows Firewall and Bit Defender anti-Virus and Norton Anti-Virus as well. Still can't connect.

Are you guys experiencing a decrease in downloads?

I'll try again next week or so.......hope I don't lose your service permanently.

"error communicating with server, program will now abort".
This might help (at least in my case):

1. Unzip the package you`ve downloaded, right click on Setup.exe and click Allow through your Windows Firewall
(Wichever you've got installed). Or do it manually creating a new rule (Windows 10)
"Control Panel\All the elememts of the Control Panel\Windows Defender Firewall"
(Allowing inbound and outbound connections)
Install and run Setup.exe

2. Or install and run this freeware tool from "Tweaking.com - (Right Click) Allow, Block or Remove - Windows Firewall" @
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_(right_click)_allowblock_or_remove_windows_firewall.html
and repeat step 1.

Succesfully installed and activated.

Done.

Very nice software. It also includes the help file.chm which is helpful. Easy and straightforward, it also include 6 videos. However, about that, 13 videos are greyed out and are not included. Pity! Also another drawback is when I hover my mouse on the menu bar and stopped at one icon, it does not show a tool tip of it. That's sad. That could be added as an extra bonus especially considering its price... Lucky for me it was free thanks to GOTD! Thanks!
There are several themes, but I prefer the original one (Vista).
I recorder a screen capture with the audio included. The result was in .wmv
and worked fine. I was a little bit confuse at first as I thought I was recording at first, but then had selected a video instead! Lol, but I corrected that everntually, and I could save my video. I could also change the folder where to place my recording. I watched it and it was fine.
Thanks a lot 1AVCapture and GOTD and Happy New Year!

This is coded with ancient and obsolete programming interfaces so it does not support modern video or audio formats or modern high definition audio sound subsystem or WASAPI that was introduced with now ancient Windows Vista that allowed sound capture from all inputs AND all output audio streams regardless if there was any hardware or driver support included.

Until they included WASAPI and at least start using DirectX instead of VFW codecs there is no point installing this on modern 21st Century hardware.

It is best suited to early 21st century systems like windows 2000 and maybe XP and say early realtek audio chipsets.

Worthless piece of junk. After 5 hours of tweaking and attempting to capture ANY sound or video, I gave up and uninstalled it. Won't recognize audio in, Won't recognize video in. Not one part of this program, except the installation, worked.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, this is not a direct AV downloader of original media, but a screen recorder.

If so, the quality can never be the same as the original, while sounds generated by your computer will also be recorded. Furthermore, there are many screen recorders, some free, also already built into the system.

The king of all screen-capture programs is ShareX, always free and open-source.
https://getsharex.com/

Harry, that is mostly for single image capture and is even less functional than this at capturing video and audio which is what this is for. ffmpeg.exe file that sharex uses just crashes on my system everytime the program tries to spawn it.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

TK, ShareX is certainly not only for single image capture.

Reply   |   Comment by Harry  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Harry, if you just install ShareX on a PC all it does without downloading an extra third party ffmpeg.exe component is capture single images or a time lapsed sequence of images of regions, windows or full screen, and provides facilities to upload them somewhere. To capture videos it requires the extra downloaded component to be installed and for it to function before it can even attempt to capture video as well as select audio source. In my book a program that requires a third party program to capture video is not designed and built to capture video but that was bolted on as an afterthought and if the third party addon program fails so does any chance of video capture.

TK, I suppose it will be better if they incorporated the ffmpeg library instead of using the executable?

Reply   |   Comment by Harry  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Harry, If they wish to use ffmpeg and associated codecs dll's they should build it into the program from the ground up, that way THEY control compatibility and beta testing on the supported platforms. By relying on a seperate executable it is not necesarily subject to the same compatability testing as the main program which I suspect is why the external ffmpeg.exe always crashed on my system. But from my experience testing ShareX I could only see 2 options to capture what could be video related content and everything else was geared to single or time-lapse image snapshotting so it would need to have more video/audio related capture options to be a general purpose still image and video/audio capture solution. At the moment it is like KC software that has one program that needs another program to burn data to an optical drive... when it should be able to burn to an optical drive itself if programmed properly. It's like the developer has come from linux or other *nix environment where one command line program pipes data to a second then a third program with each providing a different processing ability rather than incorporating all the functionality into the single windows application which is more appropriate in windows as windows programs invariably work behind a single graphic user interface and it is a waste of resources spawning child executables that cannot generally provide realtime progress reports to the parent GUI.

Can you record video from the web simultaneously with the associated audio ? IOW can you use it as a means of downloading videos (with soundtracks) where conventional downloaders cannot be used ?

Reply   |   Comment by A. Geezer  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

A. Geezer,
Yes, technically it can record whatever is there on the screen, with audio. But the quality is not the same as the downloaded videos. So if you have to play it on a bigger frame or screen, it will appear pixalated.

Neo,
that's why atleast other programs got the option the set the bitrate manually high enough.

Reply   |   Comment by dorothy  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Neo, this is not really meant to try and capture screen image of streamed video files but to capture general programs in operation. There are plenty of free and commercial downloader tools to download streamable content losslessly as to not need to capture screen and audio output and re-encode it losslessly again.

"error communicating with server, program will now abort" followed all instructions, including stopping antivirus (which I have never needed to before) appears to be a problem on the hosts server, dunno, gave up on this as my connection is working fine, sounded good and useful too
