I installed the latest build offered here at my friend's place. He has a 'huge' music collection, carefully maintained as good as I could during the last few years.

I'm really afraid to let anyone touch my tags on a first date, so I checked the option to Batch Find Lyrics and Covert Art. Everytime again, it stops with an error after some processing:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
X This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Also it has a small bug concerning multi-headed video systems: when you click on a menu, the menu options will appear on the primary screen (while the program itself is on the secondary screen...)

The program seems to have found 39,312 songs. I compared this number with MediaMonkey's statistics. MM found 21,181 files in library. Strange... Would have expected it the other way around. And I expected more songs in general ;p

Peace!

Hi from Zortam team,

1. For users that have problem with registration
- Please be sure you are logged as administrator when installing program
- if you still have problem here is GOTD serial number that you can enter in [Menu] - [Buy Zortam Mp3 Media Studio Pro].
Name: GOTD
Serial:3A43-A740-57D2-C85E-99BE-6D1B-33A3-E71A

2. Is version PRO or not?
For users that are confused is version is PRO or not, check about information. It should note that program is registered as GOTD.
Also on main window caption you can see Zortam Mp3 Media Studio Pro.
If program is not registered it would be on main window caption only
Zortam Mp3 Media Studio.

3. Why buy menu is still there if program is registered?
Sometimes users are upgrading software from standard pro to life-time pro license. In that case they need to enter a different serial number.

The packed LAME encoder is version 3.98.2 from September 22 2008.
While the most recent version is 3.99.5 from February 28 2012
(http://lame.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/lame/lame/doc/html/history.html?revision=HEAD)
An update is needed I would say.

[ Your name: ___ ] and [ Key: ___ ] are blank under the toolbar [ Buy Zortam MP3 Media Studio Pro ], and their web page asks for $20 for a version license or $25 all-version license -- so is this a demo or what?

So, do we get NEITHER in today's "giveaway" -- what exactly are they "giving"?

Thanks for the tip on free WinAmp's tagging features, #12 Christof, I didn't know that.

Anyway, it found 2445 mp3 files on one of my hard drives ...

A little pre-tagging windows pops up and promises to tag things, but it's blind, in that it's not showing me what it is going to do ...

I'd rather select what to replace with what, such as "underscores" with hyphens, not the only option of spaces ...

I asked for a preview ... and it gave me a text document with NO before-versus-after information, and no way to search, sort, or select or toggle or edit the presented tagging information, so, what is original tag and what is replacement tag? How would I know? How would I say "yes" to this, but "no" to that? No controls?

Here's a cryptic sample:

C:\Documents\My Music\Valerie Carter\Valerie Carter - Love Needs A Heart 2.mp3
ID3v1
==> Valerie Carter
==>
==>
==>
==>
==> Love Needs A Heart 2
==>
-----------------------------------------------

... and this goes on for 2454 songs in a text report!

... uh, what's going to happen here?

If I say "go ahead" is there an "undo"?

How would I verify that nothing got hammered?

How would I revert any song I found in error?

==========

As an off-topic idea, I think I'd like a song comparator that found common elements in song, letting us select rhythm or melody or other machine measurable elements, then produce a workable report / result. Why? Because I often find that I have two songs in my head and I can't differentiate them, singing one into the other, and it's because they have elements that are so similar. I'd like to bring them both on screen and blend them, mixing, cutting and pasting, to make them fit each other, making a new song, and showing how so many creative artists play off each other, same same. Just an idea, if any programmers are listening.

==========

Oh well, I'm not sure I understand the value of this giveaway. Please try again. Thanks.

It's a pitty as the update rendered the app unusable as I block preventing it from accessing the internet.
First build was a nightmware as the title bar were flashing madly.
If it can't be used in offline mode at all, I just have to sorry.

Given that my buddy is a DJ, and I always end up fixing his really screwed up MP3s, I thought I would give this a spin. (It's a bloody shame that vast majority of DJ programs only seem to flawlessly handle WAVs & CBR MP3s - though many will handle OGG, FLAC & APE, there's always a few problems.) I backed up his 60,000 song collection onto a different drive and gave Zortam an initial test (though it did take a while)...

Warning: Zortam is using older libraries (Microsoft, LAME & MP3gain). The big problem is that the Zortam installer will overwrite newer installed versions with its older versions. You may run into some problems with other programs that also rely on these libraries. I also dislike how Windows\System32 is polluted with unnecessary files - you can just leave them in the program directory.

I usually use MP3Tag as my base batch tagger. It does have a few quirks, including some incorrect genre entries which I end up fixing with WinAMP (e.g. Folk-Rock instead of Folk/Rock). Amongst our multicultural group of friends, we have MP3s tagged in several languages. MP3tag can handle both UTF-8 and UTF-16 tags, but you have to flip between the ID3V2 version settings each time.

Zortam does not seem to handle UTF-8/16 versions properly - need to try this out more thoroughly. Autotagging is a bit of a dog's breakfast... Abbreviation seem to prevent proper lookup (e.g. f, ft, feat for featuring). Album art lookup appears to be limited to the usual suspect (i.e. Amazon). Lyric lookup seems to have the usual poor success rate.

If you use Exact Audio Copy with LAME encoder, you never have a gain issue ripping from properly mastered CDs. Replay gain adjustment is necessary with el cheapo compilation CDs, downloaded music, and music ripped from DVDs - the AC3 & dts tracks are compressed / pre-compensated, while the PCM tracks are normalized at different levels depending on the studio. Zortam's front end for MP3gain seems to work well.

All in all, a mixed bag performance by Zortam. Probably going to use Zortam for specific situations. It seems that I'm still going to google images for problem album art, after trying many automated utilities.

To #16, Why the negativity to Winamp? Winamp as a great program; does just about everything anyone would need for any audio media, is free, many skins, up-to-date and is a delight to use. Why pay? (even though GAOTD giveaways are free). Any benefit over the standard Windows Media Player (also free for Windows users) is great, but at what cost? If payment is expected from a software company they must produce more than any and all freeware, to be viable! Is this worth it?!?

I cranked up the program and pointed at my folder of music. Unfortunately, it ran out of memory - apparently it reads all the metadata, etc. into memory? I only have 3 GB and that wasn't enough to keep the program from crashing. I was hoping to use the tool to eliminate duplicates.

Unable to get the program to work, every time I download it, unzip it, initiate the setup and when I click finish choosing to start the program it says error No. 5. If I choose not to and try to start the program myself, it says that Windows can not access the device or path. I have uninstalled and re installed the program for 3 times now with no success!Ant bright ideas?

Hello,

Thanks for GOTD project team for releasing a new build. We have fixed bug with retrieving cover arts. The problem was that we have used only Zortam database. Now we have included Amazon, B&N etc.

Note:

Lyrics can not be found for every song, so you can help us finding a missing lyrics writing it through Zortam Mp3 Media Studio Pro 13.
Every lyrics is more then welcome.

Once again, we apologize for our mistake.

Thank you,

Zortam Team

One first look, it looks that program is confusing.
But after 2'nd look you can find very useful function.
Obviously when you check GUI program is written to work with files as
my programming programs.

Good things:
- Autotag is not perfect but it finds about 40% covers and lyrics
- Mp3 Volume normalizer is working fine
- batch processing is included in every options
- CD Ripper gets covers and lyrics. GREAT!!!
- I can close all dock windows and have windows that I really need.
- Forum is answering a lot of my questions.

Bad things:

- The program is not for beginners (it take tames to see all futures ). I have spend 4 hours and still learning.
- Lyrics database is not covering all songs.
- Bad help file

Seems to have some good features, but saw no skins
on their web page? Becus no skins, probably will not use! Window Media Player gets me album art, but earely use it becua lousy skins! I use Wiiamp becuse it has lots of skins!
Plus lots of visualizations! Value skins as very important! Don't
want to use something that looks boring!

Installed fine (Win 7 32 bit), crashed when I was just looking at features etc. Restarted the program and it seems to be OK, but can't find any music on my PC. LOL Going to options, prompt to buy the pro version. That is what we are supposed to get with this giveaway. In the 'about' it shows plainly registered FREE version. SMH uninstalling.

I already use a product called Mp3 Tag Express. A friend sent me the GOTD for Zortam so I figured I'd give it a go. One thing I find painful is any kind of mass-editing of one or more tags. You have to keep check-marking the tags you want to change every time! I also find the interface cramped but that's my own pet peeve. I'd say this is ok for a beginner, but it lacks so many of the features I'm already used to having with Mp3 Tag Express. I guess I'm spoiled.

I have several simple free programs that can do all that this one is supposed to do. As i am familiar with them, i don't want to change, so i won't get this one.
What i need is a program to go inside an mp3 file, in order to "clean" it and make it work when it won't play...Anyone knows such a program ? Thx

First of all I would strongly recommend http://sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/
It is a great no install open source tag editor.
Or http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ not open source, and needs to be installed.
Second in response to "DenisX", you have to clear windows media player's cache. If it is displaying the wrong album picture, turn on "protected system files" and go delete the hidden album art in the folders were the mp3s are.

Good for the CD ripping function, which the free WinAmp doesn't do.

May be considered much more relevant by Win 8 users or potential users - seeing as Win 8 does not include a free media player. VLC media player is an option as VLC player plays videos as well as audio. VLC will rip CDs but it isn't intuitive! In any case many will prefer a standalone Mp3 player!

So all in all I recommend this giveaway, very especially for Win 8 PC and Win 8 tablet users!

Installed and registered fine for me on Win7 64 bit. I actually really like this program, especially how it tries to find as much information as it can on each track including batch lyrics, covers etc. It has a few niggly issues with regards to it's ease of use but overall it's a keeper for me. I have 10,000s of track that need sorting :)

Works fine on my old XP SP3 - just for the record.

Found a few mp3-files that I had long forgotten ;-)

Some of them are private recordings which deserves a brush up and get fit for my iPod
- now let's see what Zortam Mp3 Media Studio can do ...

The program looks quite impressive so I'll have to spend some time to learn what's all about [smile]

It seems that I have a use for it - thanks for the gift !

I'm very impressed - the auto-tag feature managed to tag the Artist, Title and Album info plus about half of the lyrics for a selection of obscure tracks collected in 1996, when MP3 music was the domain of geeks running Windows 95 on a Cyrix powered PC, and a portable MP3 player was just a daydream. Thank you very much.

Not good, registered and installed with no problem. Read my 9000 song database, but when I did the art/lyric check, froze and had to restart. When I restarted, nothing was there so I had to rerun, rinse and repeat, could not get through the art/lyric search without freezing, uninstall time!

Easy and quick download. No emails, no code copy/pasting. A big THUMBS UP.

Found 2,100 songs on hard drive, most I didn't know I had. Tagged most of the well known songs. I added info to some of the others with cover pics. Very easy to do without using 'Help'.

It didn't set itself as default MP3 player. That is a THUMBS UP

Windows Player didn't show the info or album covers but Zoom Player did show all details entered.

It is overall a nice easy to use tag editor, good easy to see layout with movable panes and well stocked toolbar.

I give it a THUMBS UP.

You can check Zortam's license activation as follows: chose Help - About and you will see registration information. Options to enter new serial are still available too!

Some of the features that stand out;
- Autotag (could be dangerous! My experience is that auto-tagging software mostly fails. Curious how the music experts here value the effectiveness).
- Batch lyrics and covers search! Again, be prepared for many false 'positives'. Still, it could be very convenient - lyrics integration especially.
- Search for doubles. Again, a feature that I've seen failing many times. I really hope someone makes a preview for their carefully collected collection!
- Search MP3 Library. I mention this one, for it's kinda smart. It can search for tracks without cover, lyrics or tag information
- Volume normalization

For now, I consider it a keeper and I'll advise my Music-collecting friend to install this program. One of these days I'll check out the results with him :)

Peace!

Devvie
