i missed this gotd being offline yesterday, so my commentis not very useful now - but maybe in the future somebody will look here when zoner re-appears on gotd.
i am not sorry for missing it as i meantime bought a very reasonably priced "family" licence. i have photoshop but for quick photograph editing zoner is better, more intuitive and easier to learn. for professionals photoshop is clear choice with layers and very sophisticated advanced functions (or gimp if they cannot afford it). for amateurs enhancing their pictures from vacations zoner is much easier to use. for many of them the free vrsion will be ok, but i missed many functions there - this gotd was worth to download...

Took the advice about disabling virus checker in one of the forum threads, and temporarily disabled ZoneAlarm, clicked on the Zoner install file, and there it was, the installation window. What a thing to deal with - I haven't installed any GAOTD programs in a few months, but I've been a regular user for years and a ZoneAlarm user for years, and never had the problem before. Glad I figured it out before they decided it was too late to activate and turned it into a trial!

Hi I installed Zoner Photo Studio 16 on my Win 10 Pro Machine and registered it. I have worked with it today and am impressed with it's maturity and feature set. We also use the Adobe Suite here but my wife is the pro. More importantly I am impressed with the Support that Eric has added to this Give Away!

I recently upgraded a prior GOTD offering LASSO to the latest edition with life time upgrades and support. I had problems making the transaction and left a request for customer support. Much to my surprise a few minutes later the developer was on the phone to assist me and minutes later my purchase was sorted. I have very good results with his software and wanted skin in the game to support their efforts.

As an insider Beta Tester I decided to go for the Office 365 upgrade with terabyte of storage and the purchase failed. I put in for a call back and 20 minutes later my buddy in India called and got me sorted. He added an extra no cost terabyte to my account and gave me his direct line. He has come to my rescue many times over the last year.

Something is changing guys. I started with MS CPM-86 in 1982 and for years if you had a problem with MS it was yours and we will be glad to sell you ... ? Service after the sale is the name of our game now and I am only using vendors that support their users.

Thank You Eric, Zoner and GOTD

Get this version! It is very nice product but upgrades are prohibitively expensive. You can get COREL PHOTO 7 for the same price and it is far better. But 16 is good enough if you don't have Elements or Corel already.

I've been using Zoner Photo Studio (ZPS) since version 15 was offered on GAOTD. Great piece of organizing, viewing, and editing software for my particular workflow. I lost my last GAOTD install after my Windows 10 clean install, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this giveaway today. After installing, it gave me the option to upgrade to version 17 PRO with household license for US $39. Seemed like a very reasonable price, so I bought the 17 PRO license.

This is NOT a Photoshop killer, nor was it meant to be. I wanted a simple, quick program for managing my images and doing the basic edits. ZPS handily fulfills all my needs , and it does it at a lower price than Adobe Lightroom which was an alternate program I was considering. What really stands out to me, however, is the team behind ZPS. I thoroughly enjoy the newsletters they send out filled with tips on photography and using ZPS.

Great job, Zoner! Kepp up the good work. Only one feature request: please allow the "Manager" tab to be moved to the second monitor.

I used Zoner 15 when it was offered here some time ago. I found it quite useful and decided to purchase zoner 16. Big mistake. nothing but a nag. I gave up using it because of this and the continual barrage of "deals" for Zoner 17. Stick with Version 15 if you still have it.

The best photo solution that you're likely to get for free and much easier to work with than Photoshop. Their tutorials and tips are also among the most useful.

I will not explain you, what the program does, that might blow up the space and you can inform yourself on the homepage of the developer.

In the past decades I have tried and worked with many different bitmap editing programs (commercial and free ones).
Meanwhile the market is flooded with photo editors. There are many free solutions that do the jobs good enough for most intermediate users.
It is really hard to make a decision which program is the best. They all have weaks and strenghts. I think it mainly depends on your personal needs and how much time you will spend in learning how programs work, and how deep you want to go with your editing. Sometimes older software is doing the job faster and more intuitive and more direct than often unnecessary bloated modern programs.

Zoner Photo in my opinion is one of the best bitmap editing programs on the market. Size and pricing is also very moderate for all the features you will get.
It might not be THE perfect program (and most likely will never be), but it is really very good for most tasks intermediate users will need. It looks like it is founded on a long tradition and has been improved consequently over time.

My recommendation: try it! And many thanks to Zoner and my best wishes for the future!

Finally achieved software to install by temporarily turning off Norton. Now trying to log into account and Zoner states email is incorrect, although its the account that Zoner emailed download link to me. I tried creating a new account and again given the message that email is entered incorrectly. What's going on? Anyone else experience this problem? Using an XXXXX@gmail.com

I threw Norton to the curb years ago for good reason. It likes to take over your resources and control your every move. The free bee from MS does a better job without stunting your growth!

This is not working for me... i have downloaded 3 or 4 times already... i unrar it into a folder, then execute setupe.exe and every time i run the setup.exe file, i get an error that it does not exist anymore, and when i go back to the folder where i unrar'd it, sure enough the setup.exe file is missing... I am running windows 7, 64 bit; does it not work with 64bit windows? or is there some other problem?

I am not missing layers in this type of program, non-destructive editing could be an improvement though. But recording all editing steps for that many tools and filters would be a huge task, I suppose. The raw converter part does this fine.

Install in Win7X64 went smoothly. I wish the activation instructions were consistent. Perhaps it is only for this version which is a free giveaway. The readme file says to run the setup file, but the program itself activated just fine by entering the email address. Can't complain too loudly if it works....

Did have couple problems

Found Pictures folder right off. Very nice that showing preview of what is in sub-folders

But need to get to \users\me\my pictures
Was unable to find or navigate to this folder. Experienced windows user, never had that problem before.

Also, clicked to import, message no twain device found (as on laptop and not connected) and Zoner crashed.

@Troy (This is a genuine question) - Can Zoner capture a scrolling page or a part off-screen image where both have horizontal AND vertical scroll bars? I have tried for ages to find an app which will do this 100% accurately but sadly most seem to be unable to do so. The best seem to be Faststone and Greenshot but sadly they often fall down on the job. I couldn't find anything in Zoner other than how to capture a page but it could be that I have overlooked that function.

Otherwise Zoner seems to be a worthwhile piece of software and one which I will definitely be keeping. Thank you GOTD and Zoner.

Good evening Bill,

My day was a little busier than anticipated. While ZPS does have several screen capture options, I was unable to capture a scrolling window either vertical or horizontal. I will defer to Eric on this one while I continue to investigate the scrolling capture question. Very good question Bill and a very valid suggestion for a future feature. :-)

I use a couple of other screen capture programs and they are both very high powered yet as you mentioned in your question, "They do not capture both directions either." I will not mention them here because they do not fit the bill for what you are looking for.

I did manage to shrink my screen then take a screen capture but this only works if you are 'Just of the page. A long page would make this method obsolete because the screen capture would be too small.

I am still checking for Ya'. :-)

Hello again Jill,

I forgot to answer the last question, and the answer to that one is I think interesting for everyone! There's a PDF-ized version of the in-program help available for download on the zoner.com download page, and you'll also find a large "Zoner Photo Studio 16 Guidebook," which is written more for people's common tasks and common questions than the online help is - I strongly recommend that. Both are in the "Extras" section of the page.

definitely two thumbs up. obviously it takes time to learn a program, but just in doing a quick test, i know it is a keeper. i love how the adjustments work..so a 'too dark picture' can be adjusted *easily* to a 'looking great' picture (i think easier and more effectively than photoshop). i easily cropped some images. it is relatively intuitive once i played around a bit. one thing i'm not sure about: after i cropped the picture and closed the program, then opened the program again later, and went to try another 'too dark' image, the tools that worked on getting my 'too dark picture' lighter were gone, and the cropping tool situation was still there. it will take me awhile to figure out how to get the other tools back but i'm sure i'll be able to figure it out eventually. anyway, THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM.

Hello Jill,

We offer "free downgrades" on request for people who definitely, definitely want an earlier version. This is in the form of a license code emailed off when the person writes to let us know they've purchased the current version.

The interfaces for our future versions will not be a return to version 15, 16, or otherwise - we are looking straight ahead. :-) We try to never make changes just to make them, but we're never shy about making changes, in the aim of making the best-looking and best-working software for everyone, including new users.

The install file also works on 64-bit computers - there's no need to worry about 32/64 bits when installing Zoner Photo Studio, just install it and go.

I have Zoner Photo Studio 17 which I believe I upgraded from the free version last time it was on GOTD. This is a very powerful program at a most reasonable price. The lack of layers aside...to get Version 16 for free is a spectacular deal! This program is very comparable to Corel Paintshop Pro. If you're a total newbie, you will have a bit of a learning curve.

I like Zoner and use it more than any other editor. It is almost always my go to editor. Zoner pro 15 is my personal favorite version as others have said. 16 pro is very good too. V17, the current paid version has exposure gradient filters which are very useful with landscape photography. You will love them once you try them.
If you haven't tried Zoner yet, I highly recommend that you take advantage of this free offer. Thanks GAOTD and Zoner!

Almost no negative comments above, but the thumbs up don´t reflect this. This is a good program, who would have tested this program and vote this program down? Between 6 and 8 hours ago this program got massive positive votes, about 75% against 25%. Suddenly this leveled down. I think there is something very suspicious going on with the thumbs up, thumbs down rating (is there a rivalling company actively voting this offer down?). I think the gotd team should look into this and perhaps introduce a captcha to prevent robots from "voting".

Yes, Zoner 16 pro can be installed on a 64 bit machine.
I've run it on my computer (with Intel i5 CPU at 3.50GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64 bit), before installing Zoner 17 pro in June.
But what you may need is at least 8 GB RAM (even if the program works with 4 GB).

While I love Zoner and have used it for years (it is fabulous for editing, including for RAW), I agree with comments #7 and #14--Zoner 15 was easier to use. Better interface. I wanted a new Zoner 15 Pro for my new computer, but sadly couldn't buy it (despite my pleading--Hi, Erik!) So, I will try this version [again!], but I get frustrated trying to find functions I want to use (like the histogram sliders and darken highlights and brighten shadows sliders) that used to just "be there" and were easy to find and use--now they seem hidden and once I do find them, they seem to work differently. Please, please, Zoner--make the interface like Zoner 15 again (or make the ZPS 15 Pro version available again--pretty please :-))

Question for Erik: Is there a PDF user manual for Zoner 16? Thanks.

MY MAJOR use of photo software is to extract exif date/time and create a watermark containing:
some text yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm
I have searched https://www.zoner.com/en/tutorials with no help.
So Does ZPS allow me to create what I am looking for
So far, XnView(free) provides a great exif extract to watermark

Reply   |   Comment by Bob Levy  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Hello Bob,

Yes, you can do this! Basically anywhere where you can put text in Zoner Photo Studio, you can also put what we call "formatting strings" or "variable text," which are little codes in {curly brackets} that are filled in with EXIF info instead of the code. While it's my hope that they'll be less mysterious looking in a future version, the good news is that we have a window where you can have us insert them instead of having to know the codes. To reach that window wherever it's offered, click the small-black-triangle button next to a text box.

That's the good news. The bad news is that when you have very specific requirements on the exact date formatting, like in your case, then the option you're looking for might not be in the window, and then you have to work magic with detailed knowledge of the codes. (See the help chapter on modifying variable text for this.)

To get the kind of outputs you mention, the final combination of codes and normal text to use might look something like this:

some text {TC#FD:"yyyy/MM/dd"} {TC#FT:"hh:mm"}

...or rather, it will look exactly like this if you want results of the format

some text 2015/08/17 10:05

For more information, we should perhaps take it to the tech support line, so as not to bore every reader with this. :-)

Have many of major photo editors, tried several off brands. Ending up using ZPS the most. Biggest plus for me is the Batching. It is easy, fast, and makes many files a bit smaller. Other programs batching is a real mess being too clumsy, and results are always much larger. Haven't tried ver 17 but in time when on GOTD. btw never have gotten any popup messages using ZPS, their online community is solid, and the optional newsletter often has some really useful tips & examples. A definite get if lack it.

Hello Glenn Norman,

The Giveaway version is a special one that can only be installed on the Giveaway day and that does not require a license code, and because of this, it does not come with a license code. Any window that you see that requests a license code is a window that you can safely back out of.

If you're using the normal download from our site, that does require a license code to activate Pro, so definitely make sure you really are using the Giveway version, however!

Hi, for anyone wondering what Today's version of Zoner Photo Studio 16 Pro (yes, build 9 to avoid confusion) is about - this link might be helpful: https://www.zoner.com/en/support/downloads/updates/zps-16-product-history

All in all I think this Giveaway is about wetting one's appetite to go for Ver 17.., since is has 10 more features than 16 (well, 10 more green 'ticks'): https://sur.ly/o/zoner.com/en%2Fcompare-with-older-versions/AA005599

Having both ZPS 15 and 16 (they can be installed in different locations on PC, so worth keeping both, or more) I can tell you that this Software does a really good job, and I can recommend it without problem to those new to it, or interested in having another newer version of ZPS today.

Zoner Photo Studio is great !
I'm on version 17 pro (with 'household' licence). Zoner is NOT Photoshop. But a program to develop RAW (photo-)files, edit TIFF and JPEG files, organize them, publish on Facebook, Flickr or Picasa. Comes with a very interesting geo-tagging module. Possiblity of panorama outputs, of HDR (tonemapping and exposure blending). The retouching tools are simple but useful. Dozens of 'effects' are included. LR - plug-ins may be used. Also the DNG converter from Adobe. Alignment tools are effective.
I don't know if Zoner is "better" than Lightroom, but it seems far more easy to use and has most needed features, without being too difficult to handle. If one needs layers, than maybe he should turn to PS or PS Elements.
For me, Zoner has everything I need to work / adjust / enhance my photos.

I have been using this software since winning a full licensed version of 13 for a suggestion I posted as a GAOTD. I have purchased each new version since and purchased Version 16 when first released with whole house license as my wife loves this software also. We both have used Zoner 16 since it's original release. I am a folk instrument maker with an online retail shop Since using Zoner for all my catalog photographs I can honestly say that my orders have been consistently better each year. All thanks to the high quality and detail of my instrument photographs. I am also an amateur/hobbyist landscape photographer and thanks to Zoner 16 routinely have my weather photographs shared by several local television stations in their weather reports. Their YouTube channel contains a great library of "how to" videos on every aspect of Zoner that you don't have to be a professional photographer to understand and use all of it's features. When I have been unable to understand how to do a specific task a email to customer service has always resulted in a fast response that helped me learn that task.

The wife and I are in out 60's and definitely not of the computer generation. The fact that we both are able to achieve 100% of our photo editing needs with our limited background in either photography or photo editing is the best testimony we can both give folks. I highly recommend giving this GAOTD Zoner 16 a test drive for yourself. We have only touched upon the capabilities of Zoner 16. Folks with a better background in photography that understand the terminology will really make this software shine. For others like us there is a learning curve but also lots of support to help from the folks at Zoner software.

Totally agree!

As I mentioned in a previous reply above, I've been using Zoner since version 9 (I think it was v9 that was given away spring 2007) and was immediately impressed with the overall feel of the program, it's GUI, its tools and simplicity of use. I used to use Photoshop for all of my photo-editing needs, but you almost need a diploma to understand a lot of Photoshop. I spent months teaching myself its main tools using free online tutorials and photo editing magazines to learn the ins and outs of Photoshop; however, since getting my first copy of Zoner I rarely use Photoshop now.

Zoner is ideal for the amature photographer who isn't looking for a myriad photo effects that you can get using free and commercial photoshop add-ons. I'd love to see the ability to use Photoshop add-ons with Zoner as i have hundreds of them. That would be the icing on the cake.

Keep up the good work Zoner. Thank you for supporting the giveaway project over the past 8 years. Very much appreciated.

Regarding Captain Drewi's response to #7 (since it's not possible to reply to replies): You can have multiple versions of Zoner Photo Studio on your computer at a time - installing one does not uninstall the other. So it's safe to try a new version; you won't lose your existing version.

Regarding comments on layers: these are a feature for dedicated editing software. (And since JPEG doesn't support layers, they pretty much require using a special Zoner-only format, or trapping your photos "inside" ZPS, and we don't want to do either of these things.) Contrary to a few comments on here, Zoner Photo Studio is really an all-in-one suite, not a dedicated editing program, so we're not planning to go this direction. That we said, we have been thinking about compromises we can make in this area for future versions.

Regarding critical comments, it's been our policy for years never to argue with criticism on GotD, as doing that is - if you'll pardon my unprofessional wording - just not cool. But we do hear the criticism!

That's all good.
Layers would be great, but I use PaintShop Pro, so I'm well served.
BUT
Please, remove the pushy "notification feature"; it's annoying and won't gain anything. In that regard, the RSS is sufficient, no need to make a popup window spanning across the screen that there is a new version etc.

Apart from that, great software and thanks for sharing it today for free.

cheers
:)

Erik I beg to differ with you. Layers does support jpeg also. I use it regularly in photoshop to do things. I agree with you that this will take zoner away from its main objective, i.e., providing an easy useful programme to do improvements in images. But the basic dictum, take photos properly should never be lost sight of. Unless there is data there is no tweaking around.

How can Zoner say this is not "dedicated editing" software when it contains RAW editing, a professional feature of photo editing software? A good number of comparably priced and free image editing software programs also provide layers as a standard feature. There's no reason why Zoner couldn't have that feature as well. I use Photoshop, Lightroom and Gimp and would like a program like this to perhaps simplify some of my workflow. Yet RAW editing with all the controls is what I want and the ability to then open up the raw edits with the same suite and then add some non-destructive editing (as provided by layers).

I agree with you Eric. So far everyone is conversing on the editing features, but that is only one tree in this forest (feature of your siftware). Nearly every editor is an 'all in one' editor FOR EDITIN, but this is an all in one photo tool. Maybe they are out there, but I don't know any editors that tags and uploads socially, and OMG GPS intergration?! in a photo editor?! And then, after your done editing. there's a variety of personal features like colored labeling, add descriptions, and my favorite- rating!

Again I will re-interate my/your point. this is not just ab editor. it is an all in one photo HANDLING tool.

I looked at the video for Zone Photo Studio 17 on their site. The RAW editing functions seem almost comparable to Adobe Camera Raw functions. Most Raw editors, even some of the paid ones, come nowhere near the functionality and control that ACR offers. Does the new version(offered for $49.99) have layers and adjustment layers as well?

I'd sooner buy the latest version at the discount price if it has the features I want.

Installed with no drama on Win-10 64 bit. Registered instantly. Opened with my primary photo folder already in place and the first photo ready to edit. Very clean, professional look and feel, seems quick in my first efforts. A keeper - thanks, GOTD and Zoner Software!

Can I use this licence code to activate any of previous versions? I've recently installed both trial versions of ZPS, 15 and 16. But "16" doesn't meet all my needs & requirements, and so I'd prefer to use "15" (which seems to be the best photo manager I've ever tried). Does anybody know if "16" licence code works with another versions? Thanks for help

Downloaded and unzipped.
Installed on Windows 10 Pro.
Registered per readme instructions.
The interface and features strongly resembles Raw Therapee (not a complaint, just an observation).
No time to test all of the features now.
I will keep to use along with Raw Therapee, Photoshop, GIMP, Huggin, and assorted other photo developing and editing programs.

Good program. I use it regularly because it is very quick to load, and has the tools needed for basic edits. I also have Lightroom, which is really a different program. This is more of a photoshop type program. Has a few quirks that I miss, and for some heavy duty work will fall back to photoshop.

Maybe, just maybe, your firewall or antivirus is preventing you from proceeding further. Try to disable one of them or both for a minute or so.

Cheers,
