Re #75, 94 & 137:

Installed cleanly on XP Pro SP2.

I had no difficulty whatsoever installing it to "C:\Program Files\Utilities\CD & DVD Utilities\ZCVideoConverter" instead of the installer's default location.

As for changing the output file location, I attempted to use the program's internal "Browse for Folder" function to change it from the default "C:\ZCVideoConverter" to "C:\My Videos\ZCVideoConverter outputs" but re-naming "New Folder" to "ZCVideoConverter outputs" wouldn't stick. So, I had to use Windows Explorer to create the desired folder which ZC Video Converter subsequently recognized & retained. The program then successfully converted [without the extra codecs mentioned in #130 & 139] a 600 KB .swf file to a 1600 KB .wmv file and properly deposited it to the new output location. The new .wmv file played with no degradation in Windows Media Player.

1. it's demo ware
2. pops up first thing saying BUY ME! (nothing irritates me more)
3. Okay, I tried it BUT it says it will WRITE IT'S OWN WATERMARK ON YOUR DVD.
4. I might have tried this but beings that it comes with a P.O.S. attitude I deleted it from my computer without going past #3
Useless as a free download and I don't buy programs with attitude!

there is a problem with that video converter. When I convert a video to mp4 format ;

In winamp I only hear the voices
with BS Player I can only watch it without any voice
windows media player classic can't play it.

What should I do ?

I use K-Lite Codec Pack.

To #190 to get it to be the full 100% version you have to register it the same day you download it!see readme.txt.

Its a good program, everything worked fine except when converting an avi file(in wide screen) to DVD format, it kept cocking up the aspect ratio,it produced the .vob file in 4:3,even if I chose "keep original aspect". Changing it to 16:9 improved it a bit but the image on screen was still not wide enough.Any comments on how to improve/correct this?
Quality was excellent, with good sound.

Overall a v.good freebie.

As soon as I saw that it would only do partial conversions, I deleted it. Super works fine for me, and it is genuine freeware.

All I could get was a very narrow picture in the centre of the screen no matter what aspect ratio I set.
I put it down to being UK PAL system? Probably not, as it's on the PC.
Whatever - I'll keep looking until I find a more useful package.

I was wondering how registering it makes it permanent especially if you have to reinstall it again from scratch like for another computer because the code is only good for one day. Do you burn the working program onto disc and run it from it from there?

help please -- installed fine on XP SP2 and *seemed* to convert ok to mp4 (for ipod). BUT all files have codec issues (even with the extra codecs d/l). None of the converted mp4 files will import into itunes, and those few that will open in Windows Media Player have no sound (codec issue) - some won't open at all...what might I have done wrong?

As with some of the others, it's crashing every time I try to load a file. (OS - Windows XP SP2). These also include files that I was able to previously convert from .MOV to .AVI and DiVX AVI.

Also, it doesn't say if the conversions to AVI are DIVX, or the standard AVI. This matters because some video editors (such as Pinnacle) will not accept DIVX -- it may be I have an older version -- but they will recognize AVI.

Why is it that BuBBles responds to newbies who ask obvious questions or those that simply didn't read the readme (understandable, 'cause it usually says the exact same thing), etc., with comments dripping with disdain and rude (even offensive) sarcasm, yet won't respond the to the many posts here asking help with an actual problem? And, don't say that it belongs in a freakin' forum, 'cause it doesn't... it belongs here, as it directly pertains to the stability of this program, which, in turn, affects whether or not people are going to want to download the program. In the past, i have found the comments to be informative, in general,... but, lately, i've found them irritating to wade through, due to the recent verbosity of our dear BuBBles.
i'd like GOTD to note that comments that BuBBles has hijacked typically have a negative rating. i suspect that this is because of BuBBles' added comment, not because of the original question. As was well put in another comment, being rude to your visitors is a sure way of losing said visitors, and others that don't want to support in any way a company that would allow an employee/representative to continue to act in such a manner. i have appreciated GOTD from back when the site was only a few months old... there are always other visitors that are occasionally rude in their comments, but it's just not okay for BuBBy or another GOTD team member to be so lacking in patience that they can't keep from typing rude comments. Please don't censor this comment... let the community see and respond to this comment (it's in better taste than any of BuBBy's comments today).

For those who are having difficulty with the program crashing.... I've been having the same problems. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and nothing seems to work. Then I looked at the system requirements, and I found the problem, at least for me. It says this program requires a DVD burner, and I only have a CD burner/DVD drive. So I guess I'll be uninstalling this one. Hopefully they'll offer another program for this that won't require the DVD burner. Other than that, it looks like a great program! Thanks anyway! :-)

Great program. I've been looking for something that could convert FLV Video. As someone else mentioned though, you can't change the output folder. You can change the setting, but it still puts everything in the default folder anyway.

I found this to be excellent in every way so far except that when I converted an FLV file to MPG, it only converted half of it. The rest of the conversions I did were complete time. Is there something I'm missing? I registered properly.

WOW! This puppy works beyond my expectations. I installed it and converted an old .mov file to .mpeg in about 8 secs. unlike the Plato Video Converter, the GAOTD freebie of Dec. 26 which just sat on my desktop telling me the file had been converted with 0 KB content; yea, right!
I'll have to play around with a few more format conversions but I have no doubt it'll shine with whatever I toss at it.

Thanks again guys :-)

I am having the same Codec problems as most others.. running Windows Vista 32 bit. I thought I was the only one that had the problem as I installed very early and no other proglems were here. I installed and uninstalled this about four times. I installed and uninstalled the codec pack from their website about four times. I also installed that Codec Pack Lite. That was a very good suggestion by the way, but it didn't help. So on the first try it works about 20 percent of the time maybe. I found if I close and re-open it it usually does work. Its a hassle but its a light program so its quick to load. I have been using anyvideo converter which is freeware. It doesn't have near as many output types but it is free, stable and converts flvs. I don't know if anyone had mentioned it yet. Didn't read all the posts. URL is http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ All in all if this program works for you it really is an excellent and fast little thing. I would LOVE to keep it. I may just do, as a second.

Using Vista Home Premium, Toshiba Core 2 duo, installed OK. Converted 11 MB MOV (Kodak camera movie) to a 2.8 MB WMV (another similarly). The conversion went quickly and the result plays nicely, but there is a horrid buzz maybe a second or two in length at the end of each resultant WMV file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Perhaps the crashing issue has to do with AMD processors. I too had all the problems reported above, tried all the "fixes", i.e., reinstalling, registry cleaning, dancing and chanting on the lawn to no avail. When I went to another INTEL based laptop....NO Problems.....smooth install, flawless operation!

Just a thought.

#139 , you are right...I didn't load an addtional codecs on my system, but I have k-lite already, so maybe that is why it works like butter for me.

Oh...I have XP home addition, so for those who claimed it has problems....not. try #139 suggestion, it may solve your issues. Not one iota for me. This was suggested on another program when was installing it some time ago and it has been just dandy I guess.

As far as registation problems some are expresssing (as usual)... always read the info first for registration, since they are not all the same procedures. To be honest, it only makes you look silly on something simple like that. Never assume anything when downloading anything. Always read the info....a tip for a happier and healthier system. Again, tanks guys...thumbs up!

#113, Dev, #118, SmokestackJones, you have lots of options for DivX conversion. The various official DivX options are DivX for Windows, DivX for Mac (both include a 15-day trial of DivX Converter if you haven't installed them before, $20), DivX Author (serious DivX authoring, 30-day trial, $20), and the free, open-source Dr. DivX. All DivX products were on sale over the holidays through January 3rd for 50% off, so you missed out on that.

After reading the comments here, I am going to pass on this offer.
Reasons...

# 1 I already have other fine video converters from GOATD which work just fine.

#2 People are having issues with the codecs.

#3 Some are reporting the program crashes and then have to uninstall it.

#4 The McAfee site advisor issue was not a reason for not downloading this.

As always the comments are always valuable and point to potential problems as well as good points. Thanks for the offer as it is always appreciated regardless if I install it or not.

Thanks to #78 and #95 for their polite and thoughtful comments.
My point in mentioning my 40 years experience was only that I am never baffled by the obvious, nor do I expect Micro$oft products to perform properly or consistently.
I CAN tell when something is running in the background, and believe me, the gotd window that popped open ended everything else that was running. Usually I find it simple, even fun, to defeat protections like this, but today I guess I am low on patience, anmd maybe even creativity.
The obvious next step is to download it all once more, clean out all remnants of the previous attempts, and go for it again.
As for the "woe is me" beginning, it's one of those "had to be there" sort of things. Like a few weeks ago a very good friend died of a heart attack, and on my way to visit with the family the next afternoon, I had a heart attack and totalled my car ... I should have expected something like that.

OK, now that I've had time to test this, I have to give it a major thumbs-down. As with most of these video converters, the code quality is very low. On some input folders, it always crashes. It doesn't use the output folder that you specify. Apple QuickTime (fully updated) wouldn't open any of the Apple output formats. Some formats played without video. Some output files had the wrong extension, depending upon selected output bitrates. "Keep original framerate" is completely broken, so you have to manually specify the output framerate, and it doesn't tell you what the source framerate is (nor the source video bitrate, nor the source audio format and bitrate). When conversions were successful, the conversion was quick and the audio remained in sync (short samples). DVR-MS is supported, but you have to select "All" instead of "All Supported Video Media Format" (sic). All input options other than "All Supported Video Media Format" (sic) are preceded by several junk characters.

UNFORTUNITLY!!!!
Installation went well.
Registered fine.

Then it DIED on file open (it does not matter which type) avi, wmv, mp1, mp2 etc. etc.

Removed, cleaned registry, reinstalled, same thing.

AppName: zcvideoconverter.exe
AppVer: 1.0.0.1
ModName: apcodec.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00015dc5

Tried installing codecs, uninstalling codecs, reviewing my existing codecs, etc. etc. etc.

Have Nero, Win avi vid converter, nokia converter, Camedia Master, etc. and all work well.

Windows XP Pro
A+ cert tech.
There is something wrong with the program and or compatability.

Fix it and I'll give it another SHOT ;)

To BuBBy from comment #22, their site is rated red because it links to newfreedownloads.com which is a distributor of spyware and adware. The only thing I don't understand is why McAfee rates it red just becuase it links to a bad site. I don't find the site itself bad. Using McAfee site advisor, if you click the Mcafee site advisor button on your browser it pops up a menu, select View Site Details, if the site just links to a bad site then it's OK to visit that site.

Will look further later. Has promise, but if I can't get it to go, it will. Nevertheless thanks for the effort GAOTD.
