how to download flash video from streaming sites - any of them, including those which can not be downloaded with this soft, like megavideo etc? get a copy of puppy linux version 4.3.1 (download the iso file) and burn it on a CD. restart your computer and start up the live puppy windows. start the browser, go to the desired site and once the embedded video starts playing, wait untill the whole movie is buffered into memory. you will find the complete *.flv video in the tmp folder inside the system folder. you will recognize it by it's large size. just rename it to whatever you like and you can close the browser window. you can close the browser only after renaming the file, otherwise the cashed movie will be lost. i recommend the said linux version, since it includes the older version of adobe flash player. with newer versions this trick doesn't work. it cashes movies elswhere and makes them hard to find. cheers to all.

Anyone who wants to install atube catcher, beware. By defaule it installs the crapware Ask and Bing toolbars plus IE8. That is how they provide it free. I have been using Download Helper for this function, and it works reasonably well on most sites including youtube, but doesn't find some other video embedded URLs. Maybe today's offering will.

>The main feature of this professional YouTube Downloader HD is that you could batch download High Quality videos, High Definition and Full HD videos at high speed

The above is a quote from their web site. That's simply not serious.
First, what could be "professional" in a download process ? There is no such profession.
Second - you download high quality / high definition videos if they exist in the first place, the quality of the videos is not a feature of any downloader.
Third - the speed does not depend on the downloader either. It depends on your bandwidth (the provider), whether you download other stuff in the same time etc..

In short, what they try to imply is so ridiculous - it is very much like the following:
With this wheelbarrow you can carry beautiful/high quality flowers (incl. many flowers at once) and you can do that in a high speed.

I don't see the need for a software like these, taking into account there are several chrome and firefox free and open source extensions that do the exact same thing.

@26: Copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl-C).

I think the dev should have put a window to copy the address into. Their method is (apparently) not obvious enough.

There are sites online that will give you the download link to the video, and some will even convert it for you. That sort of makes this program's $19 asking price seem ridiculous.

Maybe we should play a game here: Name the worth. Have GOTD put a box beside the program's price and allow the users to write how much they think a program is worth. A live chart would be constantly updated to show what people think.

Program doesn't start from shortcut created on desktop, but when I open task manager the app is running under processes. Deleted this shortcut and created a new one but it happens the same. To be able to run the app I need to launch it directly from Program Files-> snow Fox->...
Besides the app doesn't detect the video name. It'll just name the video to something like: "Youtube-20110702-095315.flv" and doesn't allow you to change the name before downloading you have to change the name after the video it's already downloaded and do it from windows explorer. This programs need to be seriously improved.

Today's GOTD, SnowFox YouTube Downloader HD, may not be a pro YouTube downloader -- I don't believe there is such a thing -- but it is a simple, easy to use app that does just what the name says as long as you use it in XP... In win7 tests both the GOTD & trial versions crashed with "Exception code: 0xc0000005" [using Google this was the top hit (social.msdn) http://goo.gl/5RZnR ] -- running as admin or in compatibility mode made no difference.

In XP Pro...
Right click a YouTube Video playing in your browser, select copy url, hit the big "+" button in YouTube Downloader HD, & it's added to the job/task list. Then once the app makes the connection to the site, you get a pop-up menu letting you choose how you'd like to save that video -- alternatively in the lower left hand corner of the program window you can choose a default format to use every time. YouTube Downloader HD won't work with anything but YouTube addresses, & it won't work with the shortened url YouTube gives you if you click share. And once you click that "+" button you can move on to finding the next video you want to download, stacking them up in the job window. What I didn't/don't like is the download progress bar flashing -- perhaps a small bug that I found really annoying.

Installation adds the "SnowFox Software" folder holding 37 files, 4 folders, taking up ~7 MB -- a default "YouTube Videos" output folder's also added to My Documents. I recorded 43 new registry entries made up of an uninstall key plus one User key where YouTube Downloader HD keeps your license/registration info.

If it works for you SnowFox YouTube Downloader HD is an easy to use tool -- personally I don't see too many practical differences from one *YouTube downloading* app or plugin to the next, feeling that things only get interesting when a downloading app can save video from more difficult sites. But that's me... if you're running XP [or if you're running 7 & feel lucky :-) ] & download a lot from YouTube you might want to give it a try.

There is a plethora of programs to download youtube videos, but what we need is a program to download videos from hard to get websites. For example "The Missing Girls of India" from:

Hello.

My friend Qeue showed me this alternative program last week.

It's free, open-source, and cross-platform.

It downloads and converts at the same time, which is good for me because I used to have to find a program to download and another to convert FLVs for a while. Too bad I haven't figured it out to work with Justin.tv yet though.

Unlike William R Brohinsky #6 I have no trouble installing and registering without extracting to a folder. On opening the program I was presented with a somewhat unattractive mud coloured window. In YouTube I copied the URL, on using the add button and had already been pasted in and it was just a matter of waiting for it to download. Considering the price they are asking for it, it has surprisingly little else to offer especially when compared to similar and free programs.

It might be useful to know that the readme.txt file is a bit mixed-up. It says to install the software, _then_ run the activate.exe program. It should say, extract the .zip file (some versions of Win see it as a directory, but both the setup.exe and activate.exe files need to be extracted and in the same directory), _then_ run activate.exe, _then_ install the software.

If you try to install using the directions given, three things will happen: the software will not be registered (since setup.exe will not have been activated), you'll be told that you have to extract all the files in the zip (if you haven't already done so), and running activate.exe after-the-fact of installing will activate the setup.exe but will not register the software so you'll have to re-run setup.exe to get the program installed _and_ registered.

Internet download manager does this and more.
So if you want to waste space and resources feel free to download a program that only will download from youtube more power to you.
To me its a pointless program and a waste of resources.

Address a problem with YouTube Video Downloader

YouTube Video Downloader has stopped working properly.

A newer version of YouTube Video Downloader is available for download that might solve this problem. Joy Software recommends updating to the latest version of YouTube Video Downloader to take advantage of security and stability improvements.

Unfortunately the game giveaway team have not been able to secure any free games for this weekend. There are the usual sites such as Alawar (once a month) and Sandlot (every Monday a new game appears for a week) and now apparently every Friday you can get a free game from Realore as well. In the mean time Chazzo and myself have been continuing to find some very good freeware alternatives. The following games can be found in the Game discussion forums:

‘A couple of physics based cames called Dynamite Blast and Snail Bob 1 & 2, two adventure games on the lines of Crime City 2 & 3 (which I posted last year) called Mythology and Guns & Spurs, a very good remake of a cult classic called Galaxian 2007, a fantastic marble rolling game called Proun created by one of the developers of De Blob (a freeware game wizard posted two years ago), a point and click adventure game on the lines of that classic ground breaking game ‘Another World’ called Concurrence another More adventure games called TechnoBabylon parts 1 to 3 a really cool Shmup called Earth is a 3D planet a Go type puzzle game called Bobbit a board game port called Valtra Tractors (based on a real life company) an interesting puzzle called Micropul, a 2D action platformer called Teppoman 2 (and the original) a Mugen Fighting game called The Black Heart (has great graphics) a 3D asteroids game that’ll have you pulling your hair out a docu-game called Cat & the Coup another couple of platformers called Challenge from Kiyoshi and The Forum Game an arcade game called Squid and Let Die a bomberman clone called Relight: Eternal Overture a 3D Solitaire Game and a repost of a great horror adventure game which has been updated called The White Chamber.

All of the above games were posted in weeks 146 and 147 which you can find on the front page of the Game Discussion forums, which I’ve linked to below. There’s also over 2000 games which we have posted over the last two years some of which are abandonware, some were originally commercial that have been converted to freeware and most of which have always been freeware. You’ll find every genre represented and there will be something for everyone. All the games have been tested to ensure they come from safe sites and that the games themselves have not got any hidden malware.

I'm amazed at all the new professions cropping up. I'd never realized that there are professional YouTube Downloaders who would require "professional youtube [sic] downloader" software. There are dozens of free software programs available that batch download from YouTube, and most will download from other sites as well.

I see no reason to abandon the free Firefox Download Helper add-in as it fills my needs perfectly.
